Silva, FAC;Calizotti, GS;Panizzi, AR;
Neotropical Entomology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2011000100005
Abstract: survivorship and reproductive performance of the pentatomids euschistus heros (f.) (eh), nezara viridula (l.) (nv), and dichelops melacanthus (dallas) (dm) were tested in the laboratory. a mixture of natural foods (pods of green beans, phaseolus vulgaris, raw shelled peanuts, arachis hypogaea, and fruits of privet, ligustrum lucidum, and 50 pairs/box (25 x 20 x 20 cm) were used, observed for 30 days, and replicated three times. thirty days after emergence, mean female survivorship was 91% (eh), 60% (nv), and 30% (dm). more egg masses were deposited during 11-20 days after emergence, with mean number of 45.1 (eh), 5.3 (nv), and 11.8 (dm). these values were smaller during the first 10 days (25.5, 2.1, and 4.7) and last 10 days (21-30 days) (39.4, 3.9, and 4.9), respectively. mean maximum number of eggs/day was 489 (eh) on day 29, 474 (nv) on day 11, and 153 (dm) on day 14. mean monthly fecundity (egg masses/box) was 985 (eh), 92 (nv), and 193 (dm), and mean number of eggs/box was 8,480; 5,147, and 2,042.7, respectively.

ABSTRACT Just like other services organizations, some higher education institutions have invested in printed advertising to attract applicants. The services management literature suggests that using stimuli such as pictures of the facilities and alumni testimonials may help to turn tangible the offer of services so strongly intangible as higher education. In the present work, the impact of two different types of cue on prospects’ attitudes is investigated. The cue paradigm (Olson & Jacoby 1972) has been used to select the two types of cue: intrinsic (facilities pictures), and extrinsic (testimonials). An experiment has been conducted not only to assess the effect of the impact of four levels of presence of cues (absent, only intrinsic, only extrinsic, both) on prospects’ attitudes, but also the effect of prospects’ involvement level with higher education organizations on each of the four conditions. Results show that although there were no differences detected between the effects of four types o
An invasive pentatomid pest in Argentina: neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (F.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae)

Neotropical Entomology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2011000600011
Abstract: this is the first record on the invasion of the neotropical brown stink bug, euschistus heros (f.) in paraná county (latitude 31o 51' 9.6" s, longitude 60o 32' 11.2" w), entre ríos province, argentina. five adults were intercepted in 2009/2010, one in crop residues and four on soybean fields. the expanding range in the distribution of e. heros in the southern hemisphere is believed to be due to the increased commercial trade among countries, increase in the area cultivated with soybean, and the adoption of no-tillage cropping systems.
O uso de dados de alta freqüência na estima??o da volatilidade e do valor em risco para o IBOVESPA
Moreira, Jo?o Maurício de Souza;Lemgruber, Eduardo Facó;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402004000100005
Abstract: this paper investigates the use of high frequency data in the estimation of daily and intraday volatility, in order to compute value at risk (var) forecasts for the ibovespa. garch models and deterministic methods for the filtering of seasonal patterns are used in the computation of intraday volatility and var forecasts. a comparison with a non-parametric method based on the empirical quantile is done. for daily var two simple methods seek to extract the volatility information conveyed by the high frequency data. the first method is based on the sample standard deviation with a moving window, while the second is based on exponencially weighted moving average. some traditional methods applied to daily data are used for benchmarking. both methods tested present good performance. for intraday var the results indicate that the filtering of the seasonal pattern is a fundamental step in obtaining useful forecasts of volatility and var.

Abstract: bone banks are necessary to provide biological material for a series of orthopedic procedures. the growing need for musculoskeletal tissues for transplantation is due to the development of new surgical techniques, and has made it so that a variety of services were willing to have their own source of tissue for transplantation. to increase the safety of transplanted tissues, standards for the operation of banks were imposed by the government, which limited the number of authorized institutions. the good performance of a bone bank depends on strict control of all stages, from the formation of well-trained teams for capturing, for donor selection, for conducting various tests on the tissues obtained, and by the strict control of the processing techniques used. the combination of these factors makes it so that the scope of use and the number of recipient patients increases, the incidence of tissue contamination is statistically insignificant, and that there is traceability between donors and receptors. this paper describes the technical considerations regarding the functioning of a bank, use of grafts and orthopedic applications, as well as ethical aspects and the main obstacles encountered.
Geographic Record of Human Impact Conformance to Different Water Relationships Along a Coastal River (The upawa Catchment)

Quaestiones Geographicae , 2011, DOI: 10.2478/v10117-011-0002-4
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to answer the following two questions: Can one infer the type of human impact found in the northern Pomorze region from the current state of the upawa basin? Did regional water relationships determine the type of human impact found in the area? A good place to search for an answer to these two questions is the upawa River drainage basin. The entire upper section of the river, upstream from the Bukowina, is characterized by a lack of substantial changes in the hydrographic network, resulting from man's apparent disinterest in the area. The middle section of the river is characterized by human impact in the form of the use of water resources for energy generation purposes (sawmills, gristmills, power plants). The lower section of the upawa that includes Lake Gardno is characterized by significant changes in water relationships associated with difficult discharge conditions. Finally, the mouth section of the river, given its location, has been adapted as a port facility.

Abstract: Background Sharing of data about variation and the associated phenotypes is a critical need, yet variant information can be arbitrarily complex, making a single standard vocabulary elusive and re-formatting difficult. Complex standards have proven too time-consuming to implement. Results The GEN2PHEN project addressed these difficulties by developing a comprehensive data model for capturing biomedical observations, Observ-OM, and building the VarioML format around it. VarioML pairs a simplified open specification for describing variants, with a toolkit for adapting the specification into one's own research workflow. Straightforward variant data can be captured, federated, and exchanged with no overhead; more complex data can be described, without loss of compatibility. The open specification enables push-button submission to gene variant databases (LSDBs) e.g., the Leiden Open Variation Database, using the Cafe Variome data publishing service, while VarioML bidirectionally transforms data between XML and web-application code formats, opening up new possibilities for open source web applications building on shared data. A Java implementation toolkit makes VarioML easily integrated into biomedical applications. VarioML is designed primarily for LSDB data submission and transfer scenarios, but can also be used as a standard variation data format for JSON and XML document databases and user interface components. Conclusions VarioML is a set of tools and practices improving the availability, quality, and comprehensibility of human variation information. It enables researchers, diagnostic laboratories, and clinics to share that information with ease, clarity, and without ambiguity.
