Abstract: brazil is one of the world's leading producers of bauxite. little is known, however, about the chemical and mineralogical characteristics of brazilian bauxite. the objective of this paper is to characterize bauxite in both natural and thermally and chemically activated forms. the transformations occurring during these two processes are described. the results show that the raw bauxite is basically composed of the mineral gibbsite, followed by semicrystalites of goethite and silicon oxide. its characteristics are those of a solid without mesoporosity, with small total surface area and pore diameter and volume. the chemical and physical modifications that occur in the material during the calcination process are governed mainly by the dehydration of the aluminum hydroxides phases, leading to the formation of the boehmite, hematite and alpha alumina phases. calcination results in an increase in the porosity and surface area of the bauxite as well as the appearance of the characteristics of mesoporous and thermally stable materials. the activation of bauxites in an acid medium showed that the transformations in the solid are directly related to the concentration of the acid solution used and result in an increase in the total surface area and pore diameter and volume.

Abstract: the text uses as a starting point a discussion on the contribution made by the bakhtinian thought to the human sciences, in particular with regard to discourse, activity, subject and history. in the light of this universe, the essay analyses the intersection between otherness, identity and consumption as a result of a discursive work that is characteristic of our times.

This paper analyzes a language structure which, transferred to a different sphere, a different discursive practice, and a different culture, leads to differing discourses which, in turn, point to the Portuguese language assets and to its discursive productivity in different contexts. Our work is supported by the concepts of sphere and dialogical relations, both discussed in Bakhtinian terms, and takes into account the fact that language studies practiced by several trends of Discourse Analysis may boil down to the attempt to understand, by means of historical, social and cultural dimensions, the production of meaning. This paper mainly aims to study the verses of a Brazilian contemporary song in which the verb vir (“to come”) is used in its pronominal form vir-se (“to come” + pron.). Scrutinizing the use of this form – which is totally foreign to Brazilian speakers of Portuguese – within the Brazilian artistic realm, one is lead to recognize the forms of language in use as part of the object targeted by analyses and by theories of discourse.
Jean Peytard, dialogisme et analyse du discours
Beth Brait
Synergies Monde , 2013,

For this purpose, the word manioc was chosen, recovered in three moments: the transition from oral to writing in Couto de Magalh es’ text, dated of 1876; the text’s French version published in France in 1923; and in a contemporary recipe book first released in 2005 and with a second edition in 2006.
Polifonia arquitetada pela cita o visual e verbo-visual / Polyphony orchestrated by visual and verbal-visual quotation

ABSTRACT: This paper aims at relating polyphony with other concepts conceived by Bakhtin and the Circle so as to marshal them in the inter-textual and inter-discursive readings of three cultural productions that thematize the hero in Macunaíma, a milestone of Brazilian cultural, linguistic and discursive identity. Engaged in dialogue by means of a metonymy – the episode entitled “A pacuera do Oibê”-, these works exhibit discursive and cultural polyphony and allow for a re-dimension of the concept of citation/reported speech as quotational architecture.

Bakhtiniana: Revista de Estudos do Discurso , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S2176-45732011000200003
Abstract: the main purpose of this paper is to discuss the importance of f. dostoevsky's novel notes from the underground to m.m. bakhtin's problems of dostoevsky's poetics. we hope to understand not only the artistic devices highlighted in the novel but also the consequences to the conception of polyphony and the polyphonic novel genre, and to other important concepts whose resonance goes beyond the study of the literary discourse, reaching language studies in general. this is the case of the evasiveness in speech with which the underground man interacts while fighting against all the discourses which would have the last word on him.

Brait, Beth;Pistori, Maria Helena Cruz;
Alfa : Revista de Linguística (S?o José do Rio Preto) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1981-57942012000200002
Abstract: in brazil, the concept of genre is being largely used - even in official documents and pedagogical materials. taking into consideration how wide the theoretical-practical framework known as genre has become, this paper addresses everyone who, in their teaching experiences and research, faces this reality and is willing to critically and constructively discuss the contemporary nuances of this concept as well as their consequences to academic, educational, or editorial institutions. to participate in this discussion, it is required to recognize that the concept of genre, in its multiple affiliations, involves different theoretical and methodological dimensions which consequences to the understanding of texts and discourses should not be ignored. among the existing reflections on genre, we find the one developed by bakhtin/volochinov/medvedev. despite the fact that the essay "speech genres" is the only widespread text being used in documents and research, it is not the only one to address the issue. other works by the circle contribute to the notion of genre based upon the idea that language is materialized in concrete utterances, articulating the "interior" and the "exterior" and making the notion of a historically and socially situated subject possible. this concept will be hereby presented both theoretically and practically.
