Megalithic Constructions Discovered in the Azores, Portugal  [PDF]
António Félix Rodrigues
Archaeological Discovery (AD) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ad.2015.32006
Abstract: The oldest cave art known is of prehistoric origin, dating back to approximately 40,000 years ago in both Asia and Europe. The megalithic constructions in Western Europe and the Mediterranean Region took place mainly in the Neolithic and continued until the Chalcolithic and Bronze Age. The Azores Islands did not seem to have been occupied before the arrival of the Portuguese navigators in the XVth century. Because of that, it was not expected that megalithic structures would be found, or structures that resembled megalithic tombs and rock art in the Azores Islands, geographically located in the Center of the North Atlantic, at 1500 km west of Lisbon (Portugal) and about 1900 km southeast of Newfoundland (Canada). These findings seem to be, historically, a paradox. In a first moment, an oral presentation was made about these findings by the author at the 16th Annual Mediterranean Studies Association Congress, and after that, a field trip took place with the archeologists present at the stated Congress. The perplexity was the dominant conduct of the guests, and some hypotheses that certain archaeologists mentioned were evolved versions which had not been empirically corroborated. Afterwards, new findings were registered at Grota do Medo site, helping to make clear that larger stones had been used to construct structures or monuments. The rock art surrounding the megalithic constructions in the Azores also has similarities with those found in Europe. If these findings belong to the Bronze Age or Iron Age, it can reopen new scientific questions about ancient mid-Atlantic crossings. The present article tries to establish ties among the megalith constructions found in the Azores with those known in Europe.
El valor de la propiedad intelectual en los países en desarrollo
Interciencia , 2003,
Abstract: summary the agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (trips), in force since 1995, operating under the orbit of the world trade organization (wto), constitutes a global milestone in the development of intellectual property protection under its different forms. this is particularly evident in the latin american countries, where it is necessary to update the norms regulating these rights. as the cooperation between science and the private sector is gaining ground, in comparison with the former model in which public funding of scientific activities was almost exclusive, the adequate protection of intellectual property becomes increasingly relevant also for the scientific sector. scientific findings in order to become patentable require an invention, product or process, that must be new, involve an inventive step, and be capable of industrial application. another form of protection, different and independent of patents is the protection of undisclosed information. public policies that favor intellectual property protection are more related to achieve growth promoting innovation, application and transfer of technology, and quality improvement.
Burgos,Félix Manuel;
Forma y Función , 2007,
Abstract: this article proposes a review of the co-construction phenomena, understood as the realization of a syntactic unit throughout the contribution of two participants during a conversation. it analyzes 81 cases from spanish casual conversations in cali, colombia . taking into consideration different explanations given as causes of this phenomenon, three variables are proposed to confirm these hypotheses on the studied examples. these variables correspond to: 1. a conversational interaction perspective, where shared cognitive models by the participants are taken into account (lerner, 1991). 2 a syntactic approximation, where the grammatical characteristics of the components are analyzed (ford y thompson, 1996), y 3. a prosodic approach focused in interrupted units (helasvuo, 2004). it is proposed that the theses suggested as causes of the co-construction appearance do have incidence in the studied examples. however, it is shown that in general these units cannot be explained by an isolated cause, but for multiple factors, where syntax and prosody are combined. finally, it is proposed that what at first sight could be considered a conflictive fact of the conversation, an interruption, is a conversational cooperation act.

Abstract: northwest argentina's late pre-hispanic period has been generally characterized as a time of increasing complexity, institutionalized social inequality and political-economic stratification. this article's goal is to critically discuss this view and the evidence employed to support it. i claim that if we leave aside "bird's-eye" views when analyzing late-period sites and focus instead on the subjective and intersubjective experiences, practices, and social relations that past people daily developed in these places, we will then be able to reach a different understanding of late-period societies, which, i argue, developed a social life that was closer to communal integration than to stratification and segregation.
Encuentros coloniales, heterodoxia y ortodoxia en el valle Calchaquí Norte bajo el dominio inka
Acuto,Félix A;
Estudios atacame?os , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-10432011000200002
Abstract: this article examines the social life of the native communities of the north calchaquí valley, argentina, under inka colonization. this situation of culture contact and colonialism had a profound impact on north calchaquí society's lifeworld. inka domination brought a significant transformation in indigenous ideas of agency, as well as in the specific agency of particular people. as such, certain persons took advantage of the new political context to overcome the structural constraints of the past and to achieve a better position within the new social space. nonetheless, while some individuals used the new situation to obtain personal benefits, many others adhered to indigenous patterns, avoiding the influence of the colonizers' culture on key spheres and practices of north calchaquí social life.
Poshistoria, filosofía y espiritualidad política
Blengino,Luis Félix;
Ideas y Valores , 2009,
Abstract: this paper raises the issue of the statute of philosophy in what has been called posthistory, from an approach that intends to articulate foucault's diagnosis of the present with rancière's political philosophy. we sustain that the so called postphilosophy is understood as spirituality in the age of the ending metanarratives, and coincides with the age of the expanding biopolitical governmental logic. therefore, philosophy's task, according to foucault, would become a practical one, that is to say, spiritual. we study this spirituality in its political aspect.
Dar razón de la libertad en Kant y en Hegel
T?3picos , 2004,
Abstract: the article analyses and confronts the concepts of reason and freedom in kant and hegel in a contemporary perspective. it refutes the current interpretations of these authors and makes relevant the priority of freedom. reason is possible only because of the existence of freedom. such the famous circle acknowledged by kant: reason is the (logical) grounding of freedom, whilst the latter is the (ontological, effective) grounding of reason. hegel will agree with that "circle of feedback", but will endeavour to develop dialectically what in the analytical kant appears as a set of juxtaposed issues. in the swabian philosopher, both issues are incardinated in a much wider and integrated movement.
Déficit, crédito y deuda pública: Córdoba, Argentina, 1920-1940

Abstract: the intention of this article is to study the evolution of the finances of the province of cordoba, circumscribing it to the analysis of the internal and external credit besides, to establish the dimension of the resulting national debt and its service, without losing of sight the use of the received capitals and the emitted internal tides. including an inter-war period of importance in the argentine economy, which simultaneously was shocked by the effects of two major crises, conventionally placed in 1914 and 1930.
Habitat overlap of Paralabrax humeralis (Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1828), Hemilutjanus macrophthalmos (Tschudi, 1845), and Acanthistiuspictus (Tschudi, 1845) (Pisces; Serranidae) in the rocky subtidal south of Iquique, Chile
Cisternas,Félix; Sielfeld,;
Latin american journal of aquatic research , 2008,
Abstract: a simple scuba diving survey was used to study the habitat use and coexistence of three species in the family serranidae with sympatric distribution patterns along the rocky subtidal south of iquique. depth and microhabitat were recorded for each sampled individual. samples were taken at 15 different beaches through scuba diving in the deepest areas of the first rocky fringe, herein referred to as the transi-tion zone. the data were analyzed according to depth and frequency of use (microhabitat, habitat) for each species and considering three size classes. dendograms were created to interpret the similarities in the use of beaches, microhabitat, and habitat. the results showed the species to be independent in their use of the micro-habitat and habitat. the most abundant species was the roving paralabrax humeralis whose habitat was mostly associated with lessonia trabeculata. hemiluthjanus macrophthalmos and acanthistius pictus are cavity specialists, although their microhabitat use differed according to the size of the cavity: h. macrophthalmos occupied larger caves (> 0.5 m) and a. pictus mostly smaller cavities (< 0.5 m). the lack of juvenile a. pictus individuals seems to indicate the use of an alternative ecosystem. the distribution patterns of these serranids varied throughout the study area, indicating a dependence on the geomorphology of the substrate and the pres-ence of the structural species l. trabeculata.
