Abstract: residual sulfentrazone may remain in the soil for around two years, being a source of groundwater contamination and preventing the growth of susceptible plants. so, phytoremediation may represent an option for decontaminating areas which were highly affected by applications of this herbicide. this study aimed at evaluating the potential of crotalaria juncea, canavalia ensiformis, cajanus cajan and cajanus cajan (dwarf) for remediation of soil contaminated with sulfentrazone, using millet (pennisetum glaucum) as a bioindicator plant. the experiment was installed in a greenhouse and treatments consisted of the four species already mentioned, plus a control, and four sulfentrazone doses (0 g a.i. ha-1, 200 g a.i. ha-1, 400 g a.i. ha-1 and 800 g a.i. ha-1). plants height, phytotoxicity to sulfentrazone and fresh and dry matter were evaluated. when p. glaucum was grown after c. juncea, the fresh and dry matter, as well as plant height, were higher, while the phytotoxicity symptoms were less evident. c. juncea showed the best results for phytoremediation of soils contaminated with sulfentrazone.

Abstract: In the grasp of the media literacy studies, the concept of ‘participation’ has been able to gather a more signi cant attention and focus. In this regard, we could underline the 2009 European Union’s recommendations where it is possible to observe how participation is de ned by this political organism in a framework of an active democracy alongside the intention to contribute into a healthier intercultural dialogue. In the same year, the EAVI (European Association for Viewers’ Interests) has published also the Study for Assessment for Media Criteria Levels, as part of a research which understood participation as a social competence, a communicative skill in the top of the Media Literacy Criteria Levels’ pyramid. Acknowledging the importance of participation in a active citizenship, as it was put forward by Sherry Arnstein (1969) and profoundly related to the digital media literacy requirements (Peréz-Tornero, 2004), this research paper aims to draw the attention under the social representations of one group of participants in the audience discussion programme Banda Ampla, from the Catalan public television TV3, in Spain. Having in mind the motivations that have been able to conduct this group of citizens to participate live in the set, we have also been interested in evaluating the levels of adhesion in the participants to the technology possibilities to interact with media. In a fty people sample, we will describe the production settings, through an ethnographic approach, based on a non-participation observation technique. In this inquiry we have also some data which allows us to think and question how media productions are actually opening the gates to let people partici- pate in their productions, such as in this programme broadcasted on 13th January 2011.

Abstract: Several studies have been able to identify the constant lack of interest of the scienti c community of communication towards the eld of radio (Antón & Serrano, 2007; Balsebre, 1994). This is probably a common aspect in some of the researchers who have dedicated their work in order to discuss several questions posed to the radio as a mass media profoundly connected with the social ecosystem. Probably it is harder though to nd identical perspectives regarding the current landscape of radio. Besides debating in certain way, how can we describe the actual state of this media, it is still important to focus on one of its historical characteristics: its connection with the telephone and, therefore, with listeners, as well as their eventual intervention. This has been a concern for some researchers as some of them have de ned participation as a especial format or genre within radio productions (Cébrian Herreros, 2001; Merayo Pérez, 2000). This represents the considerable importance that this concept has been able to gather in recent studies, as well as it contributes to reinforce the role of media institutions, in general, and radio, particularly, to draw ef cient strategies to integrate citizens’ intervention in a healthy and democratic way. From some theoretical approaches, notwithstanding citizens’ participation as a key concept of this paper, it will presented a case study which has basically tried to compare the dynamics of participation in two public opinion programmes in the Portuguese radio: Antena Aberta and Fórum da TSF. Hence these two formats will try to understand how Portuguese media productions are working presently to empower citizens to participate in these formats. Thus, some criteria have been drawn to establish this comparison, for instance, the available platforms to participate, selection of participants, schedules for the programme’sbroadcasting, or subjects discussed. Following the title of this journal, how structured are these new technologies in order to foster citizen’s participation in radio? Where is the actual place of telephone, which symbolized radio’s rst device of connection? Is it fair to suggest that all radio productions dedicated to citizen’s intervention are now taking advantage of these new technological and communicative platforms?

Abstract: the present work was developed in collaboration with ferespe - fundi??o do ferro e a?o lda, with the purpose of studying the effect of chemical composition changes in the microstructural and pitting corrosion resistance parameters, in cast duplex stainless steels. to accomplish the objective, solution annealing in a range of temperatures between 1050 and 1200oc was carried out in two steels with different chemical composition and different pren, both in the as cast state, whose chemical composition was 25cr-7ni-3mo-0,21n-0,03c and 27cr-7ni-5mo-0,4n-0,02c; in this paper these steels will be called 25-7-3 and 27-7-5 respectively. a third steel with a composition 25cr-6ni-3mo-3cu-0,17n-0,02c, from now on designated 25-6-3-3, produced long ago by ferespe, was used as a reference. pitting corrosion resistance was evaluated in the samples submitted to the above-mentioned heat treatments, using the procedures of the astm g 61-96 specification, and the a and e method of the astm g48-03 specification. the results show that the alloying elements increase, essentially chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen (27-7-5), leads to a raise in the pitting corrosion resistance, with the exception of the material solution annealed at 1050oc, which showed sigma phase appearance in the austenite/ferrite interface. the determination of the solution annealing temperature that maximizes the pitting corrosion resistance for the 25-7-3 and 27-7-5 steels was possible through the application of method e of the astm g 48-03 standard. microstructural modifications of the steels, namely sigma phase presence, were evaluated after submitting the steels to isothermal stages at 900oc, with durations of 1, 10, and 100 minutes; the evaluation of the pitting corrosion resistance was carried out in the samples submitted to the isothermal stage, with the application of the procedures expressed in the astm g61-96 and astm g48-03 (a method) standards. the results showed the degradation of the pitting corrosion res

Abstract: introduction: geographic information systems (gis) are being increasingly used in public health studies, as they allow comparing data organized in tables and maps through overlapping. overlapping provides a new way of reading data associated with the spatial dimension. gis programs are ideal for studies in health geography. geoprocessing is an interesting resource for generating assumptions for more in-depth studies on the theme in cause/effect ecological studies, comprising environmental variables and their deleterious effects to human health. objective: the present study aimed to construct a gis to verify the possible correlation between products of sugar-cane fires and the incidence of respiratory conditions in the affected regions, by using geoprocessing techniques. methods: a two-scale gis was structured from data on biomass fires and hospitalizations due to respiratory conditions in the state of s?o paulo for the period from 2000 to 2004. for the first scale, theme maps were created for the entire state and interesting areas for local scale studies were identified. the second scale consisted of constructing a gis encompassing the meso-region of bauru, in order to verify the intersection of health hazards in biomass fire areas. results: the maps and spatial correlation analysis showed a higher incidence of respiratory conditions in regions where biomass fires are used. the resulting material produced a set of data that allowed the investigator to verify assumptions that may support environmental health studies.

The present work was developed in collaboration with Ferespe - Fundi o do ferro e a o Lda, with the purpose of studying the effect of chemical composition changes in the microstructural and pitting corrosion resistance parameters, in cast duplex stainless steels. The aim of this study was to compare phenolic compounds contents between different positions within the crown and between collection periods, and to evaluate the tannin contents by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The collections were performed in Lavras, in the southern region of the Brazilian state Minas Gerais. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design (factorial 3 × 4); the first factor being the position (base, middle, top); and the months, the second factor (February, May, September and December). We verified that the leaves of S. adstringens present higher total phenolic and tannin contents at the top (23.05% and 18.23%) and base (21.42% and 16.61%) of the crown, in May (25.79% and 20.85%) and September (25.57% and 20.50%), respectively. There was no difference in the residual phenol and flavonoid contents between the positions within the crown or in the months of collection. These facts suggest that within the crown and climatic changes may be one of the factors affecting phenol levels in Stryphnodendron adstringens.
