Lopes, Fábio Henrique;
Educar em Revista , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-40602007000100016
Abstract: by means of this article, constant and repeated sexual differences in xix century medical discourses are analysed, between suicide committed by men and that one comitted by women. i'm seeking the basis used in order to support such difference and questioning the possibility of thinking about the difference between a male and a female gender of committing suicide, standing out, in this normative process, the role attributed to education and its preventive task.

Ramos, Melissa Guarieiro;Rocha, Fábio Lopes;
Jornal Brasileiro de Psiquiatria , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0047-20852006000300008
Abstract: objective: concerns have been raised about efficacy and adverse events of atypical antipsychotics in the treatment of behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (bpsd). this paper is an update on current evidence of this theme. methods: review of published meta-analysis and randomized placebo-controlled trials (rcts) in the last ten years. results: three meta-analysis and nine rcts were evaluated. evidence suggests that risperidone (1mg/day), olanzapine (5 to 10mg/day), and aripiprazole (2 to 15mg/day) are effective in treating aggression and/or bpsd overall; risperidone (1mg/day) reduces psychosis. adverse events were mainly somnolence, extrapyramidal symptoms, urinary tract infection or incontinence, and abnormal gait with drug treatment. atypical antipsychotics were associated with increased risk for cerebrovascular adverse events and mortality in elderly patients with dementia. conclusion: low doses of risperidone, olanzapine, and aripiprazole are effective in treating aggression and/or bpsd overall, and risperidone reduces psychosis associated with dementia. in view of the increased risk of cerebrovascular adverse events and mortality, the use of atypical antipsychotics in individuals with dementia should be reserved for patients with moderate/severe behavioural symptoms.
A vida como vir-a-aceitar: considera??es Austinianas sobre a modernidade
Silva, Fábio Luiz Lopes da;
DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502009000200001
Abstract: according to austin, the first condition of happiness of a performative utterance is the existence of "an accepted conventional procedure". we have a curious situation here, and austin recognizes it, at least in part. in fact, if a performative - the act of accepting - is inscribed in the very structure of performativity, then every performative - including accepting - presupposes an act of accepting, which, in its turn, presupposes an act of accepting, and so on. accepting - not merely a regular performative, but a condition of the happiness of every performative - is, in the final analysis, is impossible to totalize. in this essay, following austin's statements, i make an attempt to define life as comingto-accept, a topic analogous to the classical topic of life as coming-to-be. after this, i will try to articulate austinian philosophy of language to contardo calligaris' considerations on modernity, in order to delineate the modern way of dealing with life as comingto-accept.
Mapeamento de interna??es hospitalares por problemas respiratórios e possíveis associa??es à exposi??o humana aos produtos da queima da palha de cana-de-a?úcar no estado de S?o Paulo
Lopes, Fábio Silva;Ribeiro, Helena;
Revista Brasileira de Epidemiologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-790X2006000200008
Abstract: introduction: geographic information systems (gis) are being increasingly used in public health studies, as they allow comparing data organized in tables and maps through overlapping. overlapping provides a new way of reading data associated with the spatial dimension. gis programs are ideal for studies in health geography. geoprocessing is an interesting resource for generating assumptions for more in-depth studies on the theme in cause/effect ecological studies, comprising environmental variables and their deleterious effects to human health. objective: the present study aimed to construct a gis to verify the possible correlation between products of sugar-cane fires and the incidence of respiratory conditions in the affected regions, by using geoprocessing techniques. methods: a two-scale gis was structured from data on biomass fires and hospitalizations due to respiratory conditions in the state of s?o paulo for the period from 2000 to 2004. for the first scale, theme maps were created for the entire state and interesting areas for local scale studies were identified. the second scale consisted of constructing a gis encompassing the meso-region of bauru, in order to verify the intersection of health hazards in biomass fire areas. results: the maps and spatial correlation analysis showed a higher incidence of respiratory conditions in regions where biomass fires are used. the resulting material produced a set of data that allowed the investigator to verify assumptions that may support environmental health studies.
Os princípios constitucionais entre deontologia e axiologia: pressupostos para uma teoria hermenêutica democrática
Almeida, Fábio Portela Lopes de;
Revista Direito GV , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1808-24322008000200007
Abstract: the article discusses the nature of the constitutional principles by opposing two distinct hermeneutic theories: axiology and deontology. the theory of principles proposed by robert alexy is assumed as an ideal example of axiological theory, and criticized for being unable to deal democratically with the fact of pluralism, i. e., the fact that the contemporary societies are not structured on ethical values shared by all the citizens. as an alternative to the axiological model, i suggest, based on a particular reading of the theories of john rawls, ronald dworkin and jürgen habermas, that the adoption of a deontological perspective, which assumes a strict distinction between principles and values, overcomes the difficulties of the axiological theory. assuming as a central premise that law is legitimized because the citizens of a constitutional democracy accept principles that are justified from widelly recognized criteria, a deontological theory of the constitutional principles turns to be able to deal with the plurality of conceptions of the good present in the contemporary societies. in this sense, the article discusses questions related to the constitutional theory.
Response of Castor Bean Plants to Different Row Spacings and Planting Seasons  [PDF]
Guilherme Eugênio Machado Lopes, Henrique Duarte Vieira, Fábio Luiz Partelli
American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2013.412A1002
Abstract:

The cultivation of the castor bean plant is prominent and important because of its potential for producing vegetable oils with special properties. However, research on cultivating castor bean plants is scarce, especially in areas with altitudes of 300 m or below. Moreover, the currently available cultivars have not been widely tested in Brazil. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the response of the castor bean cultivar BRS Nordestina to different spacings at low altitudes during two cropping seasons. The study was conducted in the municipality of Itaocara, in the northwest Fluminense region, Brazil, which has an altitude of 60 m. The treatments consisted of five row spacings (1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 m) with 1 m between plants. The plants were cultivated in the 2007/2008 spring/summer season or in the 2008 autumn/winter season. A randomised block design with four replicates was used. The following parameters were assessed: plant height, height of insertion of primary raceme, number of racemes per plant, raceme length, number of fruits per raceme and grain yield. The spacing of 2.5 m between rows had the highest yield of castor beans during the two cropping seasons. The average yield of the cultivar BRS Nordestina indicates its potential for cultivation in northern Rio de Janeiro, below an altitude of 300 m. The yield was higher during the summer cropping season. The less-dense arrangement of the plant population contributed to the cultivation of plants with more racemes in both growing seasons.

Tree Crown Variation and Seasonal in the Phenolic Compounds Content of Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart) Coville Leaves  [PDF]
Alessandra de Oliveira Ribeiro, Selma Lopes Goulart, Fábio Akira Mori, Ana Hortência Fonseca Castro
American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2014.519305
Abstract:

The aim of this study was to compare phenolic compounds contents between different positions within the crown and between collection periods, and to evaluate the tannin contents by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The collections were performed in Lavras, in the southern region of the Brazilian state Minas Gerais. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design (factorial 3 × 4); the first factor being the position (base, middle, top); and the months, the second factor (February, May, September and December). We verified that the leaves of S. adstringens present higher total phenolic and tannin contents at the top (23.05% and 18.23%) and base (21.42% and 16.61%) of the crown, in May (25.79% and 20.85%) and September (25.57% and 20.50%), respectively. There was no difference in the residual phenol and flavonoid contents between the positions within the crown or in the months of collection. These facts suggest that within the crown and climatic changes may be one of the factors affecting phenol levels in Stryphnodendron adstringens.
