African Journal of Biotechnology , 2010,
Abstract: The quality traits of durum wheat are important for the utilization by the industries. These traits may be influenced by genotype and interaction of genotype and environment (GxE). To evaluate the effects of genotype, environment and genotype x environment interaction on quality traits such as vitreousness, SDS sedimentation test, yellow pigment index, protein content and test weight, twelve Moroccan durum wheat cultivars representing a range of agronomic adaptation were tested in five locations representing a range of environments in three growing seasons. The results indicated significant effects of genotype, environment and GxE for all the quality traits. The extent of these effects differed; for SDS sedimentation volumes, yellow pigment and test weight, the component of variation due to genotype was larger than due to the environment, indicating the greater influence of genotypes on these traits. However, for vitreousness and protein content, the effect of environment was higher than the effect due to genotypes. Thus, these traits are controlled greatly by environmental effects than genetics. The variation due to GxE was higher than that of genotype for vitreousness and test weight, indicating high GxE interaction effect and less genotypic stability for these traits. For protein content, where the environmental effect was greater than that of genotype and GxE effect, multiple environmental trials are necessary in order to determine protein content of a cultivar. For other traits, preliminary evaluations can be done in one environment and good performing ones can be selected for multiple environmental trials.

Pan African Medical Journal , 2011,

International Journal of Business and Management , 2012, DOI: 10.5539/ijbm.v7n9p141
Abstract: This study tried to know the dependency of investors on Amman Stock Exchange Index when making their investment decision in the stock exchange, especially when increasing investment opportunities at a rapid rate where the need is urgent for an accurate indicator that can be relied upon to measure the performance of the stock exchange and its effectiveness, the stocks represented for this indicator a lion's share of stock exchange on different sectors, represented by the stock exchange and therefore of the economy. As well as the study attempted to determine the impact of the Arab bank's stocks on the value of the Stock Exchange Index, to reach this goal, a questionnaire was distributed to a group of investors, using the statistical analysis by the adoption of the Wilcoxon test the questionnaire was analyzed. The results showed that ordinary investors do not rely on the index in the short term, while companies and investment portfolios based upon it in their investment decision, as well as there is a direct impact of the Arab bank's stocks on the value of the index. A set of recommendations was put forward by the researcher hoping to help bring the attention of officials and investors to increase the effectiveness of the index.

Magda I. Hassan, Najat A. Al-Abbad
Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2011.22023
Abstract: The aim of this study was to estimate the intake level of glutamate and caffeine from some snacks and drinks. The survey was carried out during 2008 to 2009 in 3 selected governorates (Al-Hassa, Al- Katif and AD-Dammam) localized in the eastern area of Saudi Arabia. The age of study participants (298) was ranged between less than 4 – over 30 years. The snacks and drinks consumption data were gathered and calculated using the frequency methods. Forty nine samples of snacks and beverages were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) for glutamate and caffeine contents. The results indicated that total intake of snacks, chocolates and drinks were significantly correlated (spearman r = 0.856, 0.591, 0.943, p = 0.0) with total intake of glutamate and caffeine. The mean of caffeine intake was 40.4± 44.5 mg, while the mean of glutamate intake was 0.134± 0.146 mg. The highest concentration of glutamate was in Pringles with Ketchup (0.420), Bugles Smoking BBQ (0.660) and Indomie with Vegetables (0.860). The high caffeine concentrations of Kit Kat, Ulker and Galaxy samples were 166, 165.5, and 134.5 mg/kg respectively, while the beverages, the high caffeine concentrations were presented in energy drinks like Red bull (345.5), Power Horse (339.0) and Bugzy(333.0) mg/L. The children aged between 4– 8 were the most consumers of snacks which containing glutamate, while the adolescents consumed more chocolates and beverages which containing caffeine. These finding suggests that consumption of salty snacks, and sugar-sweetened beverages is mounting between important categories in the community, so interventions focusing on increasing physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption will have an impact on obesity control and promoting health.
New Complex Chromosomal Translocation in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia: t(9;18;22)(q34;p11;q11)

Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology , 2007, DOI: 10.1155/2007/92385
Abstract: A Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) case with a new complex t(9;18;22)(q34;p11;q11) of a 29-year-old man is being reported. For the first time, this translocation has been characterized by karyotype complemented with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). In CML, the complex and standard translocations have the same prognosis. The patient was treated with standard initial therapy based on hydroxyurea before he died due to heart failure four months later. Our finding indicates the importance of combined cytogenetic analysis for diagnosis and guidance of treatment in clinical diagnosis of CML.

Abstract: objective: to describe our proceedings in the implatation of our laparoscopic radical prostatectomy program (lrp) methods: our working agenda and step-oriented implementation of our lrp program are shown results: four main steps were scheduled to acomplish this goal. these were: preparatory phase, programed open conversion, development and analysis. overlapping of each of these phase occured although their major content run on a time-basis. after basic skills acquisition and updating of our equipment we moved into the fixed-time open conversion we allowed us to progresively improve our performance without putting our patients into risks. operative time of this phase exceeds that of our open cases in 63 minutes and no major complications took place. a rapid decrease in the operative time was noted after the first 15 cases (197’ vs 264’). conclusion: implantation of a program of lrp can be done safely with a pre-planned program tailored to the needs and characteristics of each group and institution.
Exact Decomposition Approaches for Markov Decision Processes: A Survey
Cherki Daoui,Mohamed Abbad,Mohamed Tkiouat
Advances in Operations Research , 2010, DOI: 10.1155/2010/659432
Abstract: As classical methods are intractable for solving Markov decision processes (MDPs) requiring a large state space, decomposition and aggregation techniques are very useful to cope with large problems. These techniques are in general a special case of the classic Divide-and-Conquer framework to split a large, unwieldy problem into smaller components and solving the parts in order to construct the global solution. This paper reviews most of decomposition approaches encountered in the associated literature over the past two decades, weighing their pros and cons. We consider several categories of MDPs (average, discounted, and weighted MDPs), and we present briefly a variety of methodologies to find or approximate optimal strategies. 1. Introduction This survey focuses on decomposition techniques for solving large MDPs. However, in this section we begin by discussing briefly some approaches to treat large Markov chain models because they contain basic ideas of methods to tackle large MDPs. 1.1. Large Markov Chain Models Markov chain models are still the most general class of analytic models widely used for performance and dependability analysis. This class of problems is robust in terms of its ability to represent a very broad class of models of interest. Unfortunately, the characteristics of many models (complex interactions between components, sophisticated scheduling strategies, synchronization among parallel tasks, etc.) preclude the possibility of closed-form solutions, in general. Numerical solution methods are the most general solution methods [1]. The most pervasive practical limitation to the use of numerical solution techniques is the size of the state space of realistic models. One natural way to deal with this problem is via state space reduction techniques, that is, a transformation of the model to one with fewer states. Another is to modify the model to one with a structure which enables efficient solution. The transformed model in general is an approximation of the original model. Several classes of such transformations are described below. There are several methods of state space reduction that are applicable to Markov chain models. One such method is combining “lumpable states” [2]. When lumping applies, it is exact, but only partial information is retrievable from the solution except in very special circumstances. Also, lumping is only valid for models that have certain very limited types of structure. Another method to treat large state spaces is aggregation/disaggregation [3]. This applies particularly well to cases in which the system
