Abstract: the effect of five dosis of the synthetic sex pheromone of bonagota (=phtheochroa) cranaodes (meyrick) (a 9:1 blend of e,z 3,5 dodecanyl acetate and z9 hexadecenyl acetate) and the duration of the synthetic pheromone under field conditions were evaluated in a commercial apple orchard in vacaria, rs, brazil. no significant differences were observed among concentrations ranging from 0.25 to 3.0 mg per rubber septum. delta traps baited with two virgin females were ca. four times more attractive than those baited with the synthetic sex pheromone at the dosis of 3 mg per septum. rubber septa containing this amount of synthetic sex pheromone remained attractive for 120 days. comparing number of males captured in traps baited with the synthetic pheromone and males captured in traps with virgin females during seven months, a significant and positive correlation is observed, demonstrating that the seasonal variations in b. cranaodes population density are detected using the synthetic sex pheromone in delta traps.

Abstract: the tritrophic interaction among the predator bug podisus nigrispinus (dallas) and five species of eucalyptus damaged by thyrinteina arnobia (stoll) larvae was evaluated. p. nigrispinus visited more e. pellita than the other plant species and the leaf surface area was the primary factor (r=0,88) involved in such interaction. the presence of the herbivore on the plant elicited the highest number of visits of p. nigripinus, suggesting that there is an interaction between host plant-herbivore, problably mediated by kairomones.

Abstract: the response of cosmopolites sordidus (germar, 1824) to the volatiles of its host banana plant (musa paradisiaca cv. prata) and conspecific adults was studied. in olfactometer, the attraction of males and females of c. sordidus to rhizome and pseudotem of the banana, fresh or rotting, was observed. the results suggested that the aggregation pheromone is produced by males and that it attracts both sexes, and that there is another pheromone produced by females which attracts males only. the results also suggest that the females are the first responsible for the aggregation of the species, but the male pheromone is mainly responsible for the mass aggregation. nevertheless, the aggregation phenomenon is a consequence of the mutual action of both pheromones plus the kairomones produced by the banana plant.

Abstract: Transparent relaxor ferroelectric ceramics of the system lanthanum modified lead magnesium niobate have been investigated for a variety of electro-optic properties could make these materials alternatives to (Pb,La)(Zr,Ti)O3. However, a study that relates the properties in function stoichiometric formula, it has not been analyzed heretofore. Therefore, in this work the effect of A-site substitution of La+3 in the characterization microstructural, structural, optical and electro-optical on (1-x)[Pb(1-3/2y)Lay(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3]-xPbTiO3 and (1-z)[(1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3+xPbTiO3]+zLa2O3 has been performed. It was observed that the properties according to the stoichiometric formula and the PT had a maximum whose behavior was related to the addition of lanthanum in each stoichiometries.

Abstract: there is currently a growing interest in the practice of green manure and its effects on agricultural production systems. in order to evaluate different seeding rates and effects of pruning on seed production of c. juncea an experiment was conducted in the unit of research support in uenf in campos - rj. the experiment was arranged in split-plots, with pruning (and without) in the plots and sowing densities (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 per plant) in the subplots in a randomized block design with four replications. the experimental units consisted of six rows spaced 0.5 m apart, and 4 feet long. without pruning, crotalaria plants were 0.634 m higher. the number of branches of pruned crotalaria plants was larger than the non-pruned plants and the density of 10 and 15 plants per meter had lager number of branches. at the density of 30 plants per meter, the plants produced higher amount of dry matter. with pruning, the crotalaria plants showed on average 7.2 small pods, while the non-pruned plants had mean of 5.1 small pods. at the density of 30 plants per meter, there was approximately 25% more seeds per large pod of pruned plants in relation to the seeds of large pods of non-pruned plants. besides, at this density, plants had larger number of seeds per large pod compared with other densities. it is recommended pruning and density of 10 plants per meter due to the lower cost of seeds and seeds with more vigor.
A Lorentz invariant velocity distribution for a relativistic gas

Abstract: We derive a Lorentz invariant distribution of velocities for a relativistic gas. Our derivation is based on three pillars: the special theory of relativity, the central limit theorem and the Lobachevskyian structure of the velocity space of the theory. The rapidity variable plays a crucial role in our results. For $v^2/c^2 \ll 1$ and $1/\beta=kT/2 m_0 c^2 \ll 1$ the distribution tends to the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. The mean $\langle v^2 \rangle$ evaluated with the Lorentz invariant distribution is always smaller than the Maxwell-Boltzmann mean and is bounded by $\langle v^2 \rangle/c^2=1$. This implies that for a given $\langle v^2 \rangle$ the temperature is larger than the temperature estimated using the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. For temperatures of the order of $T \sim {10^{12}}~ K$ and $T \sim {10^{8}}~ K$ the difference is of the order of $10 \%$, respectively for particles with the hydrogen and the electron rest masses.

Abstract: in this work pure and lanthanum doped textured ferroelectric ceramics of lead-barium niobate (pbn) were produced through hot forging, using different die configurations. the ceramic samples were characterized in the parallel and perpendicular direction respect to the pressing axis. the analysis of the microstructure showed that the increasing of the lanthanum doping increases the aspect ratio of the pbn grains, which generally present a columnar shape. it was concluded that the change of the grain morphology favored a higher grain orientation during the forging process and therefore the enhancing of the material texturing, which was directly reflected in the physical properties of the ceramics.
