Abstract: It is a fact that applying Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and associated software and/or modules on studies regarding use and protection of water resources have been increased in recent years. With such programs, some physical characteristics of watersheds including borders, land use, drainage system, slope and elevation can be determined in a quick, detailed and reliable way. In this research, the aim was to use ArcHydro module -integrated with ArcGIS 10.3.1 one of the programs of GIS- to assess some features (borders, drainage, size, steepness, etc.) of river basins located within Artvin province. In order to create Digital Elevation Model (DEM), data from both “Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM)” and “topographical map” was used; thus, providing comparison of the results gathered from these two base maps. In general, it was stated that both SRTM and topographic map data resulted in very close findings in determining watershed characteristics. For example, while the number of large watersheds (10-100 km2) counted as 315 and 312 by SRTM and topographic maps, respectively, the number of very large watersheds (> 100 km2) was 30 according to both base maps. Moreover, in grouping of slope classification, as 89.29% of the province was found to be within the very-steep slope class based on the topographic maps, a very similar result of 87.13% was revealed using SRTM data.

Erciyes Medical Journal , 2008,
Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this study is the prediction of death anxiety with symptom distress of individuals from different religions. Material and Methods: The study includes 240 people as a sample who are Syrian, Yezidi and Muslim, were choosen randomly from Mardin, Batman, Diyarbak r and anl urfa. In this study SCL-90 “symptom distress check list” and “Thorson Power Death Anxiety” scales are applied. Results: From symptom distress respectively, for Syrian people, anxiety and interpersonal sensitivity; for Muslim people, interpersonal sensitivity, sometization, obsession, pschooid, paronoid, anger and additional variables; for Yezidi people have sometization, obsession, pschoid, paronoid, phobia, additional variables are seen as an important reasonable prediction of death anxiety. Conclusion: Fear of death and anxiety exist everywhere and every time and effects our life deeply. Most of energy of human beings are spent to deny the reality “death”. According to some of psychological theorist, death anxiety is the first symptom of nevroz, for some of other ones, it is the first source of pathology. According to the study results, there are relations between death anxiety and symptom distress.

Abstract: Objectives: Reproductive endocrine disorders, especially polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are common in epileptic women who are less fertile and suffer from more menstrual and reproductive endocrine disorders than non-epileptic women. The etiology of reproductive endocrine dysfunction in epilepsy has not been determined precisely. The aim of the study was to investigate the hypotalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis, insulin resistance and the prevalence of PCOS in patients with generalized idiopathic or cryptogenic epilepsy and receiving treatment with valproate (VPA) and carbamazepine (CBZ). Method: This study included 48 epileptic women with a mean age of 24.2±5.5 years. The patient groups consisted of 34 (70.8%) women with epilepsy on VPA and 14 (29.2%) women with epilepsy on CBZ. The control group consisted of 20 healthy women. Fasting blood samples were obtained for the determination of glucose, insulin, gonadotrophins, estradiol, androgens, 17-OH progesteron (17-OHP), and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels. All subjects underwent oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and the buserelin stimulation test for glucose tolerance status, insulin resistance parameters and hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis evaluation. Results: PCOS was diagnosed in 17 (35.4%) epileptic patients and glucose intolerance was found in two (4.1%) patients. Basal insulin levels, glucose and insulin responses to OGTT were significantly higher in the patients than in the controls. Peak and area under curve (AUC) 17-OHP responses to the buserelin stimulation test were significantly higher in the patients than in the controls. Discussion: The prevalence of PCOS among women with epilepsy receiving VPA or CBZ treatment was higher than expected. Those patients had increased ovarian stroma and hormonal activity characterized by hyperandrogenemia, as demonstrated by buserelin testing and insulin resistance as demonstrated by OGTT. Modern Economy (ME) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/me.2012.31012
Abstract: This paper aims to analyse the relation between exporting behaviour of the firms and productivity by testing for learning by exporting hypothesis in Turkish manufacturing industry. Moreover, this study examines whether exporting and productivity relations change with respect to the orientation of industry in which the firm operates. We use the data on the largest 1000 industrial enterprises of Turkey from 1997 to 2007. The results based on unbalanced dynamic panel data models estimated show that there is no evidence that exporting fosters productivity at the firm level in Turkish manufacturing industry. Disaggregation of industries with respect to their orientations does not change this result. Exporting, or increase in the exports of the firm, doesn’t seem to be one of the sources of productivity growth at least for the firms already exporting in Turkish manufacturing.
Why is mathematics valuable?: a comparison of Turkish and German mathematics teachers
Dede, Yüksel;
Bolema: Boletim de Educa??o Matemática , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-636X2012000400005
Abstract: this study was based on the data obtained from "values in mathematics teaching in turkey and germany [vmtg]" project which lasted two years. the vmtg project compares german and turkish mathematics teachers' and their students' values. the purpose of the study is to investigate turkish and german mathematics teachers' views on why math is valuable, and explore the mathematical values behind their views. the study was undertaken with 9 turkish and 13 german mathematics teachers. even though several data collection instruments (i.e. observation sheets, likert type (multiple choice) questionnaire, and questionnaire consisting of open-ended questions) were used in the project, only the data gathered from semi-structured interviews were the basis for the analysis of the study. collected data were subjected to constant comparative method. results revealed that two different major categories emerged: (1) isolated thinking and (2) connected thinking. discussion, recommendation and further educational implications were provided at the end based on the data.

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2010,
Abstract: It is important that climate comfortable conditions are within presumed threshold values with respect to tourism activities in the form that people rest in a healthy environment. The climatical elements bearing importance for climate comfortable conditions in general sunshine duration, temperature, relative humidity, wind and precipitation have been taken into consideration for this purpose. The purpose of this study is to examine of the climate comfortable conditions in respect to tourism on the Aegean Region coastal belt of Turkey. In this study, TCI, THI and SSI indices have been used for determining climate comfort conditions. The best climate comfortable conditions in terms of coastal tourism are seen May-June and September-October periods in the study area. Climate comfortable decreases due to high temperature and relative humidity in July-August period. November-April period is not appropriate for the coastal tourism. The favourable period for sea bathing is seen between 9 June-26 September.

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2008,
Abstract: This study evaluated school psychological counseling services based on high school students’ views. Participants were 235 students. “Student Personal Information Form” and “the School Guidance Services Scale” were used for data analysis. MANOVA and multiple regression procedures were used for data analysis. Results showed that students listed the guidance services from the most utilized to the least as follows: consultation, placement, follow-up, public and family relations, orientation, research and evaluation, information gathering and outreach, appraisal and counseling services. Results revealed that students’ evaluations of school counseling and guidance services did not show any differ significantly according to gender and academic achievement. Results also showed that whether teachers informed students about counseling services; whether students had met the school counselor and should certainly have counselors were significant predictors of students’ evaluations of counseling guidance services. On the other hand, whether school counselors familiarized students with their services, students believed in the helpfulness of counseling and guidance services; whether students utilized educational counseling and career counseling were not significant predictors of students’ evaluation of these services. Results of this study showed that overall an approximately 56 % of all counseling and guidance services were offered. This finding illustrate that these services are not offered to a satisfactory degree. This could be attributed to a host of reasons. The fact that a significant number of individuals who work as counselors do not hold counseling degrees; differences in the number and quality of faculty bodies of counseling degree programs; the insufficient number of counselors at schools; a lack of support from school administrators and teachers; a lack of effective time management of counselors; and job stress, professional burnout and job dissatisfaction of counselors could be some of these reasons.

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2013,
Abstract: The aim of this study is finding an answer to a question how the development and change of sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies were at the Black Sea Region in Turkey between 1971 and 2010. For that purpose, SST data of Amasra, Inebolu, Sinop, Samsun, Ordu, Giresun and Hopa stations were used. Air temperature is meteorological element having a clearest effect on annual and seasonal SST anomalies. Also in winter North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and North Sea Hazar Pattern (NCP) and in spring North Sea Hazar Pattern (NCP) are noticeably influential. In the study area, SST anomalies showed important annual and seasonal variations. It is designated that annual average SST anomaly showed asymmetric diffusion from its values average variation aspect in all stations, form standard variation aspect it showed symmetrical in Hopa and in the others it showed asymmetric diffusion. In 1971-2010 generally SST anomalies showed decrease in Ordu and Hopa, however, it showed an increasing tendency in the other stations. The values of anomaly showed decrease in Black Sea coasts between Sinop and Hopa in spring and summer, they showed an increasing tendency in the whole Black Sea coast zone in winter and autumn. SST and the anomaly values generally showed decrease in Black Sea coasts in 1971-2000, they showed increase between 2001 and 2010. The lowest anomaly values were designated in the period 1981-2000 and the highest anomaly values were generally designated in the period 2001-2010.

History Studies : International Journal of History , 2010,
Abstract: It is too further from a debating topic that history is not consisting of only political events. Therefore, the former history understanding that had been busying with only rulers and the political mechanisms under their ruling as well as military developments is leaving its place to the social-history understanding that can embrace the all the subjects which interesting in human and human being. With the help of the approach which revive this development, history was removed anymore from becoming an area under the monopoly or service of certain person or groups. In this way a sensible increase happened in the figure and variety of the “followings” and “followers” of history. As considered in this frame, with the help of the events which will be tryed to explain soon and which revive this study, some topics were come to the light as; how kind of way was followed by the “followers” on investigating of any judicial event in the last era of the Ottoman Empire, how kinds of difficulties could be met by the charged officials, how kind of process was to wait any official who did not his duty sufficiently and it is tryed also to abrade the dust covering on the faceless entities prisoned in the unimportant pages of history of the other people namely the “followings” who were interesting in the topic especially the assistant- solicitor, as could be done.
