Ono, Erika;Lafer, Manuel Mindlin;Weckx, Lily Yin;Granato, Celso;Moraes-Pinto, Maria Isabel de;
Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de S?o Paulo , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0036-46652004000300008
Abstract: we have developed a cheaper an simple in house indirect elisa that uses the live attenuated vzv vaccine as a coating antigen. the alternative elisa had an agreement of 94% when compared with a commercial vzv elisa kit. moreover, our elisa proved to be more reliable than the kit when assessing true negative samples. by adding a standard serum, we were able to produce results in international units per millilitre. also, the addition of an extra step with 8m urea allowed the assessment of vzv igg avidity without excessive costs. the cost per sample to test vzv igg was 2.7 times cheaper with our elisa, allowing the testing of many samples without the burden of production of vzv antigen in the laboratory.

Pesquisa Aplicada & Agrotecnologia , 2010, DOI: 10.5777/657
Revisiting the J-Curve for Japan  [PDF]
Masanori Ono, SaangJoon Baak
Modern Economy (ME) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/me.2014.51005
Abstract:

This paper investigates Japanese trade to see whether the J/S-curve phenomenon between net exports and the terms of trade is observed in the data from 1980Q1 to 2008Q3. Based on the results of a VAR stability test, the aggregate trade data are endogenously split into three sub-period data sets, with the J/S-curve present in the last two. The J/S-curve may stem from the increasing share of China and the oil-exporting countries in Japanese trade. In fact, the J/S-curve is observed in the bilateral trade data with those countries but not in the data with Korea or the United States.

First-Principles Molecular Dynamics Calculations of the Equation of State for Tantalum
Shigeaki Ono
International Journal of Molecular Sciences , 2009, DOI: 10.3390/ijms10104342
Abstract: The equation of state of tantalum (Ta) has been investigated to 100 GPa and 3,000 K using the first-principles molecular dynamics method. A large volume dependence of the thermal pressure of Ta was revealed from the analysis of our data. A significant temperature dependence of the calculated effective Grüneisen parameters was confirmed at high pressures. This indicates that the conventional approach to analyze thermal properties using the Mie-Grüneisen approximation is likely to have a significant uncertainty in determining the equation of state for Ta, and that an intrinsic anharmonicity should be considered to analyze the equation of state.
Viruses and Lipids
Akira Ono
Viruses , 2010, DOI: 10.3390/v2051236
Abstract: As obligatory intracellular pathogens, viruses exploit various cellular molecules and structures, such as cellular membranes, for their propagation. Enveloped viruses acquire lipid membranes as their outer coat through interactions with cellular membranes during morphogenesis within, and egress from, infected cells. In contrast, non-enveloped viruses typically exit cells by cell lysis, and lipid membranes are not part of the released virions. However, non-enveloped viruses also interact with lipid membranes at least during entry into target cells. Therefore, lipids, as part of cellular membranes, inevitably play some roles in life cycle of viruses. [...]
The Lehmann Discontinuity Due to Dehydration of Subducted Sediment
Shigeaki Ono
The Open Mineralogy Journal , 2007, DOI: 10.2174/18744567000701010001]
Abstract: Recent high-pressure experiments have led to the conclusion that water release from subducted sediments lying under continents in subduction regions occurs at about 220 km depth. This dehydration reaction is in good agreement with the seismological signature of the discontinuity indicating that sediment dehydration causes the Lehmann discontinuity in the upper mantle.

In vitro antiherpetic activity of a chemically sulfated galactomannan from Leucaena leucocephala seeds
LUCY ONO
Revista de Ciências Farmacêuticas Básica e Aplicada , 2010,
Abstract: A chemically sulfated galactomannan (LLS-2) was obtained, starting from the polysaccharide extracted from seeds of Leucaena leucocephala, which presented 15.2% sulfate and a degree of sulfation of 0.60, and its effect on the replication of Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) in Vero cells was investigated. LLS-2 showed a 93.7% inhibition of the HSV-1 replication at a concentration of 2.5 micrograms/ml, when added during its adsorption step, evaluated by the plaque reduction method, and a selectivity index higher than 1 000, suggesting that it inhibits the HSV-1 binding to the host cell, but also, in a less significant way, it showed an antiviral effect following the virus attachment step, which indicates that sulfated polysaccharides could act by more than one antiviral mechanism. Keywords: Leucaena leucocephala. Galactomannan. Sulfation. Galactomanana. Sulfata o. HSV-1. Atividade antiviral.

Oil Price Shocks and Stock Markets in BRICs
Ono, Shigeki
The European Journal of Comparative Economics , 2011,
Abstract: This paper examines the impact of oil prices on real stock returns for Brazil, China, India and Russia over 1999:1-2009:9 using VAR models. The results suggest that whereas real stock returns positively respond to some of the oil price indicators with statistical significance for China, India and Russia, those of Brazil do not show any significant responses. In addition, statistically significant asymmetric effects of oil price increases and decreases are observed in India. The analysis of variance decomposition shows that the contribution of oil price shocks to volatility in real stock returns is relatively large and statistically significant for China and Russia.
