Pires, Erasmo José Paioli;Pommer, Celso Valdevino;Passos, Ilene Ribeiro da Silva;Terra, Maurilo Monteiro;
Bragantia , 1988, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051988000200003
Abstract: a somatic mutation occurred in 1982 in the niagara red, the main table grape cultivars in the state of s?o paulo, brazil, is reported. the mutant shows the same berry color as the original one but its physical dimensions were drastically reduced: bunch weight (237%) and berry weight (218%); bunch length and width (33 and 70%) and berry length and width (58 and 43%). the outstanding characteristic by which the mutant differs from the original is the seedlessness. it is expected that the new cultivars, due to its seedlessness, can be of great value to grape grower and to the final consumer. moreover, the cultivars can be used as male parent in breeding programs considering its seedlessness and as a source of disease resistance. the cultivar is named "rosinha" (little rose in portuguese) or niagara red seedless.

Scientia Agricola , 1999,

Abstract: grape vineyard in southern brazil utilize a large amount of mulch during autumn-winter season demanding extra efforts and costs, being its acquisition very difficult nowadays. in order to evaluate the possibility of replacing the tradicionally mulch by green cover species in the inter-row strip, two experiments were carried out in indaiatuba and jundiaí, sp, brazil, from 1999/00 to 2003/04, with the table variety niagara rosada. the experimental design was a randomized block with four replications and six treatments: 1) no weeded area; 2) cut spontaneous local vegetation; 3) mulch of brachiaria decumbens; 4) green cover of avena strigosa from march to october followed by green cover of mucuna deeringiana from october to march; 5) green cover of lathyrus sativus from march to october followed by green cover of m. deeringiana from october to march; and 6) lupinus albus from march to october followed by green cover of m. deeringiana from october to march. the weight, lengh and width of cluster, rachis and berries of grape, the total number of berries and its pedicel diameter were evaluated. the average values were compared by duncan test at the level of 5%. the results of all characteristics obtained with the green cover crops were equal or more favorable than those ones using grass mulch cover (b. decumbens), being possible to utilize green manure crops in the inter-rows of grape vineyard without any negative interference on some commercial characteristics of grape fruits.

Abstract: effects of girdling and/or gibberellic acid on clusters and berries of seedless grape cultivar maria (iac 514-6) were analysed. the experiment was carried out in commercial vineyards located at jundiaí, state of s?o paulo, brazil. the treatments were applied to the plants 14 days after bloom and consisted of: 1. girdle alone; 2. girdled plants with clusters dipped in a 200 mg/l gibberellic acid (ga3) solution; 3. clusters dipped in the same ga3 solution, in plants not girdled; 4. control plants: no girdle, no ga3. parameters analysed were: cluster weight, length and width, number of berries, berry weight, length and width, total soluble solids and ph. control plants presented by far the worst results. girdle or ga3 improved extraordinarily cluster weight, length and width, and berry number, weight, length and width, when compared to the control. ga3 alone gave much better results than girdle alone for almost all the traits, although girdling was made in a lower position in plants not treated with ga3. girdle alone led to a total soluble solids content superior to all other treatments. girdle and ga3 showed a strong interaction affecting positively and significantly all the physical traits of clusters and berries.

Abstract: aiming to identify parents and hybrids among vitis vinifera (bunch grapes) and vitis rotundifolia (muscadine grapes) isozyme polymorphism and rapd marker were used. got (glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase), idh (isocitrate dehydrogenase) and pgi (phosphoglucoisomerase) systems could differentiate the muscadine, being identified five allozymes for got, two allozymes for lap (leucine aminopeptidase) and four allozymes for est (esterase). pgi and idh systems were dimeric and had the phenotype of four allozymes in two regions and three allozymes in one region, respectivelly. rapd marker showed polymorphism that led to the differentiation among all genotypes. upgma dendrogram obtained through isozymes and rapd marker were similar. the strongest linkage was found among 'italia' and 'rubi', followed by 'patricia' and 'a dona'. piratininga and eugênio cultivars were also closely linked to the others. through isozymes and rapd marker, muscadine was found very distantely and separately related to the other groups. when rapd was used for muscadines, the nc66c203-9 hybrid, one possible hybrid and its female parent, the hybrids were located in an intermediate position for muscadine and bunch grapes, however the possible hybrid was similar to its female parent, while the nc66c203-9 presented bands from both muscadine and bunch grapes, confirming its hybrid origin.

Abstract: "fantasy seedless" and "crimson seedless" are two vinifera table grape cultivars released in 1989 by the usda, fresno, ca, usa, and introduced in brazil by the authors. at the end of winter of 1991, cuttings of both cultivars were grafted on three different rootstocks at campinas, sp, brazil. cuttings were also distributed for selected growers of various regions in the s?o paulo state. results of preliminary observations are presented here. "fantasy seedless" is an early to mid-season black seedless grape with cluster medium in size (350-550g), with a length of 13-20cm and a medium to loose compactness. the berries are naturally large, averaging 4-9g, 17-22mm in diameter, 20-30mm long, and are mostly oval. "crimson seedless" is a mid season red seedless grape with cluster medium in size (460-620g) and length (18-30cm), and are slightly compact. the berries are naturally large, averaging 3.5-8.0g, 16-21mm in diameter, 18-30mm long, and are cylindrical to oval in shape. the duration of the cycle (pruning to harvest) in campinas, for both cultivars was about the same whether grafted on kober 5bb, 106-8 mgt or iac 766, but vigor evaluated through trunk diameter and pruned weight, was higher for crimson seedless grafted on kober 5bb. the performance of both cultivars in the s?o paulo state showed that they can be commercially recommended. both varieties were renamed in portuguese as follows: fantasia for "fantasy seedless" and ruiva for "crimson seedless".
