The study was carried out with the objective of evaluating the effect of phytase supplements in feeds with different levels of available phosphorus on the performance of broilers from 22 to 42 days of age. We used 1080 Cobb-500 chickens distributed in a completely randomized design, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, with three levels of available phosphorus (0.30; 0.40 and 0.50%) and four levels of phytase (0; 500; 1,000 and 1,500 UF), totaling 12 treatments, each with six replications of 15 birds. The variables evaluated were: feed intake, live body weight, weight gain, feed conversion and carcass characteristics. Live body weight and weight gain were not influenced by the levels of available phosphorus or adding phytase to the diet. There was interaction between the levels of available phosphorus and phytase levels for feed intake and feed conversion. Better feed conversion was seen in birds fed on diets containing 0.30% available phosphorus at 1,500 UF kg-1. The available phosphorus levels affected the development of the thigh and the back, where the best results were from 0.30% and 0.40% respectively. The use of a diet containing 0.30% phosphorus, supplemented with 1500 UF kg-1 is recommended.

Abstract: theoretical frameworks on health promotion focusing on social determinants of oral health have highlighted promising approaches for improving the oral health of populations and reducing inequities in oral health. in the last two decades the salutogenic theory has gained ground in the field of health promotion, but not in oral health promotion. instead of focusing on risk factors and behavior change, the theory highlights the importance of resources and the ability to use them. the model's central construct, sense of coherence (soc), suggests explanations of the relationship between life stressors and health status. the stronger the soc, the more successfully people will cope with stressors and thus maintain their health. this paper discusses the potential of the salutogenic theory to guide the development of actions in the five fields of oral health promotion: creating supportive environments; promoting health through public policy; strengthening community action; developing personal skills; and reorienting health services. the theory can serve as a framework for oral health promotion measures that strengthen the available resources, create better ones, and enable people to identify and benefit from them.

Abstract: free access to prenatal care and hiv tests represent the first step in the prevention of vertical transmission and guarantees early prophylactic measures. this study aims at analyzing the coverage of hiv testing in pregnant women in a basic family health unit in the city of fortaleza, ceará. the theoretical-methodological basis of the study was the grounded theory, which proposes generation of theory from data derived from the social reality. data were collected through participant observation, open interviews with physicians, nurses and pregnant women and in focal groups with pregnant women and health agents. the women faced institutional barriers to prenatal care and hiv testing. difficulties in making the appointments for prenatal care hampered early identification of pregnant women and delayed their assistance. with respect to hiv testing, the study found that the basic health unit does not collect the biologic material; there are few laboratories performing this kind of exam and those who do are very far from the pregnant women's residences. this study concludes that even in the family health unit, the access to prenatal care for pregnant women remains difficult, and that the prevention of vertical hiv transmission depends on political, institutional and structural changes.
