Abstract: the in vitro cultivation of bromeliads has been considered an effective technique to improve its production. however, there are no studies that compare the efficiency of the methods of in vitro propagation versus ex vitro for the brazilian giant bromeliad alcantarea imperialis (carrière) harms used in landscaping and considered to be endangered due to illegal extraction. the in vitro culture appears as a good alternative to preserve the genetic diversity of this polymorphic species, assuring that the raw material for the contemporary evolution will be available. the aim of this study was to compare the growth of plants of a. imperialis in vitro and ex vitro obtained from seed, establishing the ideal transfer period. the seeds were disinfected before being transferred to culture conditions (culture medium or pinus sp. bark substrate). after the pre-established growing time, in vitro plants were transferred to ex vitro (acclimatization). plants from in vitro cultures showed higher values for all measured parameters compared to those grown ex vitro. the data showed that the acclimation of plants cultivated in vitro for 2, 4, and 6 months showed better growth compared to those acclimated after being cultured in vitro for longer time. these results show the efficiency of the in vitro culture method, indicating the ideal time for the maintenance of the plants in nutrient media, providing important cost-benefit ratio for production.
An iterative domain decomposition method for free boundary problems with nonlinear flux jump constraint
Juan Galvis,H. M. Versieux
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: In this paper we design an iterative domain decomposition method for free boundary problems with nonlinear flux jump condition. Our approach is related to damped Newton's methods. The proposed scheme requires, in each iteration, the approximation of the flux on (both sides of) the free interface. We present a Finite Element implementation of our method. The numerical implementation uses harmonically deformed triangulations to inexpensively generate finite element meshes in subdomains. We apply our method to a simplified model for jet flows in pipes and to a simple magnetohydrodynamics model. Finally, we present numerical examples studying the convergence of our scheme.

Abstract: it presents a survey of some formal characteristics of the scientific production with the aim of knowing whom, where, and what have been indexed in electronic databases, under the entry: "brief psychodynamic psychotherapy" and "time-limited psychodynamic psychotherapy". foreign and national productions were checked and critiques were presented. the sample of 534 abstracts (1980 to 2003), published in brazil and abroad, indicated that the foreign production was quantitatively superior concerning the number of references, journals and authors. however, the national production compares in some aspects such as: reference average by author, predominance of unique authorship and adoption of integrative psychotherapy, in which influences of other approaches, rather than the psychodynamic, are identified. in the two realities there was a predominance of publications about adult single psychotherapies, in psychiatric journals. it is expected that, with the expansion of psychology database, the last characteristic changes, at least in brazil.
Ovarian Cancer Stroma: Pathophysiology and the Roles in Cancer Development

Cancers , 2012, DOI: 10.3390/cancers4030701
Abstract: Ovarian cancer represents one of the cancers with the worst prognostic in adult women. More than half of the patients who present with clinical signs such as abdominal bloating and a feeling of fullness already show advanced stages. The majority of ovarian cancers grow as cystic masses, and cancer cells easily spread into the pelvic cavity once the cysts rupture or leak. When the ovarian cancer cells disseminate into the peritoneal cavity, metastatic nests may grow in the cul-de-sac, and in more advanced stages, the peritoneal surfaces of the upper abdomen become the next largest soil for cancer progression. Ascites is also produced frequently in ovarian cancers, which facilitates distant metastasis. Clinicopathologic, epidemiologic and molecular studies on ovarian cancers have improved our understanding and therapeutic approaches, but still further efforts are required to reduce the risks in the patients who are predisposed to this lethal disease and the mortality of the patients in advanced stages. Among various molecules involved in ovarian carcinogenesis, special genes such as TP53, BRCA1 and BRCA2 have been well investigated. These genes are widely accepted as the predisposing factors that trigger malignant transformation of the epithelial cells of the ovary. In addition, adnexal inflammatory conditions such as chronic salpingitis and ovarian endometriosis have been great research interests in the context of carcinogenic background of ovarian cancers. In this review, I discuss the roles of stromal cells and inflammatory factors in the carcinogenesis and progression of ovarian cancers.
The Partition Function in the Four-Dimensional Schwarz-type Topological Half-Flat Two-Form Gravity

Physics , 1996, DOI: 10.1142/S021773239700039X
Abstract: We derive the partition functions of the Schwarz-type four-dimensional topological half-flat 2-form gravity model on K3-surface or T^4 up to on-shell one-loop corrections. In this model the bosonic moduli spaces describe an equivalent class of a trio of the Einstein-K\"ahler forms (the hyperk\"ahler forms). The integrand of the partition function is represented by the product of some $\bar \partial$-torsions.

Abstract: We classify the moduli spaces of the four-dimensional topological half-flat gravity models by using the canonical bundle. For a K3-surface or four-dimensional torus, they describe an equivalent class of a trio of the Einstein-Kahler forms ( the hyperkahler forms ). We calculate the dimensions of these moduli spaces by using the Atiyah-Singer Index theorem. We mention the partition function and the possibility of the observables in the Witten-type topological half-flat gravity model case.
Dualities between K3 fibered Calabi-Yau three-folds

Physics , 2001,
Abstract: We propose a way to examine N=1 and N=2 string dualities on Calabi-Yau three-folds or extensions. Our way is to find out or to construct two types of toric representations of a Calabi-Yau three-fold, which contain phases topologically equivalent or phases connected by flops. We discuss how to find relations among Calabi-Yau three-folds realized in different toric representations. We examine several examples of Calabi-Yau three-folds which have the Hodge numbers, $(h^{1,1},h^{2,1})=(5,185)$ and the various numbers of K3 fibers. We observe that each phase of our examples contains Del Pezzo 4-cycles, $B_8$ in six ways.
Homogenization of a generalized Stefan Problem in the context of ergodic algebras
Hermano Frid,Jean Silva,Henrique Versieux
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: We address the deterministic homogenization, in the general context of ergodic algebras, of a doubly nonlinear problem which generalizes the well known Stefan model, and includes the classical porous medium equation. It may be represented by the differential inclusion, for a real-valued function $u(x,t)$, $$ \frac{\partial}{\partial t}\partial_u \Psi(x/\ve,x,u)-\nabla_x\cdot \nabla_\eta\psi( x/\ve,x,t,u,\nabla u) \ni f(x/\ve,x,t, u), $$ on a bounded domain $\Om\subset \R^n$, $t\in(0,T)$, together with initial-boundary conditions, where $\Psi(z,x,\cdot)$ is strictly convex and $\psi(z,x,t,u,\cdot)$ is a $C^1$ convex function, both with quadratic growth, satisfying some additional technical hypotheses. As functions of the oscillatory variable, $\Psi(\cdot,x,u),\psi(\cdot,x,t,u,\eta)$ and $f(\cdot,x,t,u)$ belong to the generalized Besicovitch space $\BB^2$ associated with an arbitrary ergodic algebra $\AA$. The periodic case was addressed by Visintin (2007), based on the two-scale convergence technique. Visintin's analysis for the periodic case relies heavily on the possibility of reducing two-scale convergence to the usual $L^2$ convergence in the cartesian product $\Pi\X\R^n$, where $\Pi$ is the periodic cell. This reduction is no longer possible in the case of a general ergodic algebra. To overcome this difficulty, we make essential use of the concept of two-scale Young measures for algebras with mean value, associated with bounded sequences in $L^2$.
