Canto, Marcos Weber do;Jobim, Clóves Cabreira;Gasparino, Eliane;Hoeschl, André Ricardo;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2008000300019
Abstract: the objective of this experiment was to evaluate different sward height (20, 40, 60 e 80 cm) in tanzania grass (panicum maximum jacq.) pastures managed under continuous stocking. the animals used were nellore steers, and the control of sward height was done with put-and-take techniques. evaluations were made for: forage mass, green leaf mass, leaf:stem ratio, morphological composition and dry matter accumulation rate. the experimental design was completely randomized with two replications. forage mass increased linearly with sward height with overall mean of 2,767, 3,105, 3,657 and 4,436 kg ha-1 at sward heights 20, 40, 60 and 80 cm, respectively. rates of dry matter accumulation decreased with increasing sward heights and were 104, 108, 90 and 81 kg ha-1 per day for sward heights 20, 40, 60 and 80 cm, respectively. leaf:stem ratio decreased linearly with sward heights. tanzania grass pastures, under continuous stocking, should be managed between 40 and 60 cm heights in the final of spring and during summer station.
Animal production in Tanzania grass swards fertilized with nitrogen
Canto, Marcos Weber do;Bona Filho, Amadeu;Moraes, Aníbal de;Hoeschl, André Ricardo;Gasparino, Eliane;
Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982009000700003
Abstract: nitrogen (n) at 100, 200, 300, and 400 kg ha-1 was applied to tanzania grass swards to evaluate the animal response and relationships between sward characteristics and the performance of young nellore bulls (bos indicus) under continuous stocking. a completely randomized experimental design was used with two replications between 11 november 2001 and 15 april 2002 when the sward heights were maintained at 60 cm by using different stocking rates. the average daily gain (adg) (0.73 kg d-1) was not affected by n doses while the number of animal days ha-1 increased linearly from 515 to 1267. on the other hand, the linear increase in the animal yield was 399, 653, 755, and 895 kg ha-1 for n at 100, 200, 300, and 400 kg ha-1, respectively, while the ratio between the liveweight gain (kg) and n (kg ha-1) decreased. correlation coefficients between adg and herbage mass, green leaf mass, green herbage mass, proportion of green leaf and leaf:culm ratio were low and nonsignificant. under the conditions in northwestern paraná, the application of n to swards of tanzania grass is a management option for increasing beef cattle production.
Effects of Guilt, Disbelief, and Assessed Lie-Truth Telling Abilities on Physiological Responses in the Guilty Action Test  [PDF]
Eitan Elaad, Eliane Sommerfeld
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2016.78108
Abstract: This experiment used a mock crime procedure in which 100 participants were randomly assigned to four experimental conditions in a 2 × 2 factorial design. Two guilt conditions (guilty and informed innocents) were crossed with two human interrogation feedback conditions (believed and not believed). The Guilty Action polygraph test was administered several days after the mock crime and the human interrogation. Along with the common dependent polygraph measures (electro dermal, respiration, and cardiovascular measures), self-assessments of the ability to tell lies and to tell the truths convincingly, were gathered. Results showed enhanced responses to the critical items for all three physiological measures. Respiration responses significantly differentiated between guilty and informed innocent participants. No significant guilt effect was obtained for electro dermal and cardiovascular responses. The feedback manipulation failed to affect all three physiological responses. Informed innocent participants who rated low their ability to tell the truth convincingly elicited larger electro dermal responses to critical items than high raters. Guilty participants who rated high their lie telling ability showed larger electro dermal responses to critical items than low raters. Further research on the association between self-assessment of lie and truth telling abilities and physiological responsivity in the Guilty Action Test is recommended.
Competitive Advantage of Nations and Multilateral Trade System: How Can Lebanon Benefit from Trade Liberalization without Enhancing Its Strategic Industries?  [PDF]

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2014.24023
Abstract: International trade theories explain the advantage of nations to adopt a liberal trade model and to participate in the multilateral trade system via liberalizing their systems by eliminating trade quotas, tariff barriers and other forms of protectionism. The influence of international institutions on trade flow, mainly the World Trade Organization (WTO), has been important. The WTO contributed by helping and advising governments so that they would benefit from multilateral agreements by granting preferential treatments for developing countries joining the institution, and making them learn from other countries’ experiences in the accession process. Both liberalizing and protecting local production have advantages and weaknesses; how do existing theories about trade policy explain this landscape? Liberalizing the economy proved to be beneficial for some countries, while others suffered from distasting consequences on domestic production, employment and purchasing power. Some researches explained that large-scale changes in political institutions, especially in the direction of democracy, may be necessary for the kind of massive trade liberalization that has occurred. Changes in preferences cannot be overlooked in some economies while explaining the rush to free trade. The reciprocal impact of trade on domestic policies and the international political system is important. Analyzing the hypotheses about nation’s competitiveness and its dependence on the capacity of its industry to innovate and upgrade deems indispensable. This paper will be testing the relevancy from applying Michael Porter’s diamonds theory and the Heckscher-Ohlin-Samuelson model on developing economies, mainly Lebanon, in order to gain national competitive advantages while having strong regional and international rivals. Do companies gain advantage against the world’s best competitors because of pressure and challenges? Lebanese productive companies are suffering from lack of competitiveness because of weak governmental support and absence of public planning to enhance strategic industries by developing a strong flexible export based model. With a 2.6 billons dollars deficit of its balance of payment, how can Lebanese government join the WTO and liberalize its trade system while avoiding its negative impact on national and social prosperity?
The landless rural movement and the settlements in the West of Paraná: agreements and disagreements over the struggle for land
Estudos Sociedade e Agricultura , 2005,
Abstract: this paper examines three case studies of rural settlements in the west of paraná, which were settled in different periods, and are representative of the changes in the movement of landless rural workers (mst) over the years, particularly as regards the organizational forms assumed by the rural settlements. these were based on the collective organization of production, which, when implemented, provoked conflicts revealing the inadequacies of such model. this paper also highlights the tensions between the leadership of the mst and its base, directly related to the existence of two projects in clear opposition: the ideological political project of the mst leadership and the project for organizing daily life and production by the social base of the movement.

O luto e seus destinos
Mendlowicz, Eliane;
ágora: Estudos em Teoria Psicanalítica , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14982000000200005
Abstract: this paper briefly follows the freudian theory of mourning. using part of a clinical case, an attempt is made to demonstrate that the vicissitudes of mourning may differ from those proposed by freud, namely, either 'working through' it or collapsing into melancholy. emphasis is made on the great difficulty involved in the mourning process, as well as on the value of other possible symptom formations in the event of mourning not being well worked through.
As psicopatologias do apoio: autismo, adic??o, somatiza??o
Allouch, Eliane;
ágora: Estudos em Teoria Psicanalítica , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14982003000100005
Abstract: psychopathologies of support: autism, addiction and somatization. using clinical illustrations of patients? written testimonies and other psychoanalysts? researches, the author highlights that autistic, addictive and somatic syndromes originating different degrees of failure. this failure respects the first dual analyses of sexual drives on the other and the body functions. likewise, the auto-erotic-autistic paradigm deals with non psychotic pathologies which are autism, addictions and somatic diseases. thus, it is verified the autistic or addictive object, or the somatic patient do not represent the primary object; they replace it and create the paradoxical condition of an autistic repetition of the destruction of the other.

Revue LISA / LISA e-journal , 2009, DOI: 10.4000/lisa.780
