Abstract: characterization of the thermal decomposition of polyurethane (pur) foams was performed by fourier-transformed infrared (ft-ir) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (tga). three main weight loss paths were observed by tga, the residue being lower than 3 wt.% for 3 different pur foams analyzed. ft-ir spectra indicated co2, co, nh3 and isocyanides as main decomposition products. pur foams of different cell sizes were immersed in a slurry of the parent glass ceramic of composition li2o-zro2-sio2-al 2o3 (lzsa) and submitted to heat treatment. the lzsa cellular glass ceramics obtained after sintering and crystallization resembled the original morphology of the pur foams.
Preparation and characterization of stainless steel 316L/HA biocomposite

Abstract: the austenitic stainless steel 316l is the most used metallic biomaterials in orthopedics applications, especially in the manufacture of articulated prostheses and as structural elements in fracture fixation, since it has high mechanical strength. however, because it is biologically inactive, it does not form chemical bond with bone tissue, it is fixed only by morphology. the development of biocomposites of stainless steel with a bioactive material, such as hydroxyapatite - ha, is presented as an alternative to improve the response in the tissue-implant interface. however significant reductions in mechanical properties of the biocomposite can occur. different compositions of the biocomposite stainless steel 316l/ha (5, 20 and 50 wt. (%) ha) were prepared by mechanical alloying. after milling the powders for 10 hours, the different compositions of the biocomposite were compacted isostatically and sintered at 1200 oc for 2 hours. the mechanical properties of the biocomposites were analyzed by compression tests. the powders and the sintered composites were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (sem) and x-ray diffraction (xrd).

Abstract: data from 1456 purebred and crossbred cows of five different crossbred groups involving the holstein (h) and gyr (g) breeds (h; ?h ?g; ?h ?g; 3/8h 5/8g e ?h ?g) were used to compare their milk production and reproductive traits in the brazilian central plateau region. the performance traits studied were: average daily milk production (dmp); lactation length (ll); total production in 305 days (p305) and age at first calving (afc), gestation length (gl) and calving interval (ci). higher averages of dmp and p305 were observed for animals ?h ?g and ?h ?g and the smallest ones for crossbred animals with larger proportion of the gyr breed (?h ?g). the lowest values of afc and ci were observed for ?h ?g animals. these results indicate the importance of crossbreeding strategies to produce animals that are more adapted to the environmental conditions of the region. holstein purebreds probably do not express their full genetic potential due to nutritional and/or heat stress.
Flavonóides glicosilados das folhas e flores de Bauhinia forficata (Leguminosae)

Abstract: From the leaves of Bauhinia forficata kaempferol and four flavonoid glycosides, 3,7-di-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosylkaempferol, 3,7-di-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosylquercetin, 3-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1->6)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-7-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosylkaempferol and 3-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1->6)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-7-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosylquercetin were obtained. From the flowers only the flavonoid 7-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosylkaempferol was isolated. The structures were established by chemical and spectroscopic methods.

Abstract: Nas últimas décadas, tem crescido o uso de ceramicas porosas em aplica es tecnológicas, tais como filtros, suportes catalíticos, materiais para implantes ósseos e estruturais. Entre os métodos de obten o de ceramicas porosas, o de adi o do agente formador de poros ao pó ceramico é amplamente utilizado, devido à sua simplicidade. Visando a um reaproveitamento de resíduos organicos e subprodutos vegetais, este trabalho trata sobre a produ o de vitroceramicas porosas do sistema Li2OZrO 2-SiO2-Al2O3 (LZSA) por meio da adi o de baga o da cana-de-a úcar e de pó de madeira ao pó vítreo, como agentes formadores de poros. A degrada o térmica desses agentes, após calcina o/sinteriza o a 750 graus Celsius (°C), foi estudada por termogravimetria e espectroscopia de infravermelho. na. Avaliou-se a microestrutura dos materiais porosos por microscopia eletr nica de varredura (MEV) e foram obtidas porosidades na faixa de 49 a 73%.

Abstract: The Minas Frescal cheese has physical and chemical characteristics appropriate to the growth of microorganisms andhave been frequently associated to several foodborne diseases. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate themicrobiological quality of Minas Frescal cheese commercialized in supermarkets in the far Extremo-Oeste of SantaCatarina, by Staphylococcus aureus coagulase positive, fecal coliform, Salmonella sp. and Listeria monocytogenes.We collected 30 samples of Minas Frescal cheese commercialized in supermarkets in the cities of S o Miguel doOeste, Maravilha, Pinhalzinho e Modelo, SC. The microbiological analyzes were carried out according to officialrecommendations and requirements (Anvisa), and the methodology used to conduct microbiological analysis was basedon the Normative Instruction of the Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento (MAPA). The results showedthat 7% of the samples were outside the established standards by the legislation, with fecal coliform contamination. Wefound no contamination by L. monocytogenes, Salmonella sp. and Staphylococcus aureus coagulase positive. Althoughthe number of contaminated samples was low, this indicates contamination found flaws in the manufacturing practicesof food, which demonstrates the importance of maintaining rigorous system of quality control in dairy products.

Abstract: this paper proposes the use of informational strategies as a tool to facilitate information transfer processes aimed at promoting health by means of the exercise of the individuals. since these strategies do not formally exist in the theoretical picture of information science, it was necessary to do a conceptual and interdisciplinary research to provide the grounds to justify their existence and action. the analysis served to detect the strategies existing in the speech of the video images constructed on the basis of certain health information. a typology of strategies was created based on their ways of acting and on concepts of the communication areas, linguistics, cognition, sociology, anthropology and education. it was concluded that the strategies are useful, not only for the health information transfer, but also for the information production and retrieval through the registry on databases of its reading, interest and audience levels on marc format

Abstract: this article discusses certain issues related with science and its internal ramifications from the viewpoint of capitalist production, based on a rationale oriented fundamentally by the combination of capitalist globalization and the monopolization of technical and scientific knowledge. man, having become an object of himself, is incapable of reflecting on himself and his practices, even though he may have developed refined mechanisms for understanding reality. the debate reveals the possibility of thinking about certain aspects of the training of young researchers in the field of the humanities, such as the lack of discussion of the boundaries and reach of scientific exercise. thus, one suggests the idea of imaginative research as a means to acquisition of knowledge, reflection and theoretical clarification.

Abstract: videos are increasingly used as informational support in health-related social intervention actions. the objective of this paper was to become acquainted with the cultural elements in health-related videos, since they are information transfer facilitators. studies on the use of health-related information in brazil, the strength of images in individuals' cognition process and the need to put conveyed information into context served as the basis for analyzing the finalists among videos at the third health-related video show, promoted by the oswaldo cruz foundation (fiocruz) and held in rio de janeiro in 1998. by observing some of the technical data on these videos, it was possible to identify the cultural setting within which they were produced. the cultural diversity present in communication actions within all spheres, including health promotion and disease prevention, is an essential element for social progress.
