Castro, Lucia Rabello de;Mattos, Amana Rocha;Juncken, Elaine Teixeira;Monteiro, Renata Alves de Paula;Villela, Helena Antunes Maciel;
Psicologia em Estudo , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-73722006000200023
Abstract: the present work discusses the construction of 'otherness' understood as a permanent elaboration of the position of the subject facing the demands of contemporary subjetivation. the notion of difference is evoked in order to deal with the subjective movement, open and unstable, in the construction process of the other and of self. the contemporary city is brought here, through the discursive production of young people, in an intervention-research project, in which about 60 youth in the city of rio de janeiro, with ages between 11 and 13, from five different institutions, were invited to talk about their relationships with the other in the city. in this project, named city workshops, the youth debated about their difficulties in living together with the other and about the conflicts and the strangeness inherent in this relationship. through the analysis of group narratives, it was possible to establish the most significant figures of 'otherness' such as 'the loner', 'the poor' and 'the fox', which, regarded here as 'scales', determine new productions of meaning in the relationship i- the other in the city. we discussed how these figures of otherness are related to conflicts produced by contemporary demands, such as, individualization and the need to be included in the consumption society.

Alimentos e Nutri??o , 2009,
Multicultural care in nursing—From the theoretical paradigm to the subjective experiences in clinical settings  [PDF]
Ana Paula Teixeira de Almeida Monteiro, Aida Cruz Mendes
Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2013.38076
Abstract:

Last decade, the geography of immigration in Portugal experienced intense transformations with an increasing inflow of new and diversified migratory groups. An open questionnaire was developed and applied to 22 Portuguese nurses, aiming to analyse personal experiences and significant situations of nursing care in multicultural contexts. The understanding of hospital routines, difficulties in managing physical space due to different cultural standards, body exposure, and body handling in nursing clinical care, emerged as more significant issues in reports of critical incidents focusing on multicultural contexts.

Barbui, Elaine Cristina;Cocco, Maria Inês Monteiro;
Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-62342002000100014
Abstract: the objective of this research is to evaluate how much the clients that frequently went to the diabetes ambulatory, knew about their own ill, and the feet care. in the sample - diabetes type 2 - the majority were people with more than fifty years old and 71.8% were diabetics for more than ten years. so the conclusion that could be taken is that the clients knew about the care that they must have with their feet to don't have complications, but the "own care" is not well done. to insert it in the rightly on their day-by-day they must have acess to the information about diabetes, participation of the family, motivation and their own hability.

World Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases (WJCD) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/wjcd.2012.24041
Abstract: Purpose: To investigate the prognostic impacts of a combined clopidogrel-metabolizing genotypes CYP 2C19 (+ or -)*2/(+ or -)*17 on patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Population and methods: Prospective, longitudinal study of 95 patients admitted for ACS to a single coronary care unit. Patients less than 75 years of age, who survived hospitalization and to whom clopidogrel was prescribed, were included. CYP2C19 genotyping was performed at dis- charge. For analysis, the patients were grouped as follows: Group A ([+]*2/[+]*17) n = 8; Group B ([+]*2/[-]*17) n = 18; Group C ([-]*2/[+]*17) n = 27; and Group D ([-]*2/[-]*17) n = 42. Platelet function was assessed by an ADP platelet aggregation test using a commercially available kit. The primary end-point was a composite of mortality or readmission for ACS. The median time of follow-up was 136.0 (79.0 - 188.0) days. Results: The mean age of the study patients was 59.9 ± 10.7 years, and 83.2% were male. The allele frequencies of CYP2C19*2 and CYP2C19 *17 were 14.2% and 20%, respectively. Both allele frequencies were in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium. The patient groups were homogenous for demographic data, cardiovascular risk factors, GRACE and CRUSADE bleeding scores, left ventricular ejection fraction, and coronary anatomy. ADP platelet aggre-gation was similar for all groups (respective rates for groups A, B, C, D were 17.5 U (10.3 – 18.7) vs 20.0 U (17.3 – 26.8) vs 16 U (12 – 19) vs 12 U (8 – 22), p = 0.4). Event-free survival was significantly lower for group B (respective rates for Groups A, B, C, D were 87.5% vs 68.8% vs 96.3% vs 92.5%; p = 0.02). By multivariate Cox regression analysis, the CYP2C19 (+)*2/(-)*17 diplotype was an independent predictor of outcome, conferring a 5.2-fold higher adjusted risk for the composite endpoint than the others diplotypes. Conclusion: In our study, patients with the intermediate plus non-ultrarapid clopidogrel-metabolizing genotype ([+]*2/[-]*17) had a significantly poor medium-term prognosis for ischemic events, compared with the other diplotypes.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to discuss the drugs television advertisements as a way of transmission and representation of current health views and medication function and use. we performed a qualitative content analysis of ten direct-to-consumers television advertisements of otc drugs and an institutional advertisement of a pharmaceutical company. the data showed that the notion that articulates the ideas behind the messages and functions of the product announced is that "health problems" stem from body issues, either relational or social, but the presented solution is individual and is consubstantiated by buying and using drugs. the analysis suggests, finally, that notions of health and quality of life may be marked by notions that support the ideal of health linked to consummerism.
