Abstract: this study aimed to compare the sedative effects of morphine, meperidine and fentanyl, in combination with acepromazine (acp) and their effects on physiologic values in dogs. six healthy beagle dogs were randomly assigned to four treatments with 7-day washout intervals. in three treatments, acp (0.05mg kg-1) was administered and 20 minutes later, the dogs received administration of 0.5mg kg-1 of morphine (acpmor), 5mg kg-1 of meperidine (acpmep) or 5μg kg-1 of fentanyl (acpfen). in treatment acphdmor, 0.1mg kg-1 of acp was administered in combination with 0.5mg kg-1 of morphine. all drugs were administered intravenously. sedation scores were evaluated by a numeric descriptive scale (nds: 0-3) and a simple numeric scale (sns: 0-10). all variables were evaluated for 120 minutes. the administration of acp caused mild to moderate sedation. sedation was improved in all treatments after opioid administration, but significant differences were detected only in acpmor and acphdmor. more dogs presented intense sedation (nds=3.0) after administration of morphine (3/6 and 4/6 dogs in acpmor and acphdmor versus 1/6 in other treatments). duration of sedation was longer in acpmor and acphdmor. mild to moderate decreases in blood pressure, respiratory rate and temperature were observed in all treatments but decreased hr was observed only in acpmor and acphdmor. no significant differences were observed in the aforementioned variables when twice the dose of acp was used (treatment acphdmor). under the conditions of this study, administration of morphine, in combination with acp, results in greater and longer sedation than meperidine and fentanyl. increasing the dose of acp, in combination with morphine, does not improve the degree of sedation. all combinations used were considered to be safe for healthy dogs.

Abstract: the article discusses the autonomy of brazil's central bank and its potential relationship to the national currency's stability. beyond the government budget balance and the central bank's autonomy, we seek to demonstrate that the currency's stability also depends on the bank's own political and institutional stability. due to a gap in the literature, which has focused little attention on the political conditions and economic motivation by which important steps were taken towards achieving autonomy, we analyze the relations between autonomy and stability from a historical-institutional perspective. we call attention to the cyclical nature of the brazilian economy, which alternates developmentalist policies and stabilization policies and thereby alters the central bank's role and degree of autonomy.

Abstract: the azores archipelago in the north atlantic is an important area for biodiversity because it is rich in rare species and habitats, and almost undisturbed. sanguinhal mire was originally a lake that evolved through paludification into a peat habitat. it is located inside nature 2000 (european union for protection of nature and biodiversity, council directive 92/43/eec of 21 may 1992 on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora, habitat directive annex i(b) habitat 7140) area of santa bárbara and pico alto mountains on the island of terceira, and it is a good example of a basin peatland type that was first discovered in 1998. this paper provides baseline information on its flora, vegetation communities, structure, surface hydrology and chemistry. forty-one plant species including six sphagnum species and ten endemic vascular plants have been recorded, and eight plant communities are distinguished. the maximum peat depth is 2.5 m. the mire receives flowing water from its margins, in addition to intercepted precipitation and fog. after precipitation, water drains through several placic rupture points. both ph and water conductivity were measured, with some ecological tendencies observed. the conservation status of the mire is good, but it is subject to increasing pressure from cattle pasture and a walking trail that constrains natural surface water movement.

Codes over a weighted torus
Eduardo Dias,Jorge Neves
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: We define weighted projective Reed-Muller codes over a subset of weighted projective space over a finite field. We focus on the case when the set X is a projective weighted torus. We show that the vanishing ideal of X is a lattice ideal and relate it with the lattice ideal of a minimal presentation of the semigroup algebra of Q, the numerical semigroup generated by the weights of the projective space. We compute the index of regularity of the vanishing ideal as function of the weights and the Frobenius number of Q. We compute the basic parameters of weighted projective Reed-Muller codes over a 1-dimensional weighted torus and prove they are maximum distance separable codes.
AS TRANSFORMA ES NO MAPA DO ORIENTE MéDIO

Revista Tamoios , 2010,
Abstract: Rupture of the Achilles tendon is one of the most frequent tendon injuries in humans. However, there is no standard surgical technique thus far to reproduce complete rupture of this tendon in rats. Surgical procedures were performed in Wistar rats under light microscopy, with posterior longitudinal incision and preservation of the plantaris tendon. The animals were sacrificed on 2nd and 8th postoperative week and we used hematoxilin and eosin, picrosirius-red and Weigert’s resorcin-fuchsin to observe general tendon healing. The mean operative time was one minute and 24 seconds. Histological studies showed cellular proliferation and fibrillogenesis at two weeks, with decreased amounts of cellularity and elastic fibers at the 8th week, besides changes in structural organization of collagen fibers. The complete Achilles tenotomy in rats, was improved under light microscopy and sparing the plantaris tendon. This surgical technique was simple and quick, showed signs of normal healing process, could be easily reproducible, and triggered translational researches in this area.
