Religious Practice and Attitudes towards Offenders  [PDF]
Lucas Marcelo Rodriguez, José Eduardo Moreno
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2013.48089

This ex post facto study aims to investigate the influence of religious practice on the types of reaction to situations of offence. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to evaluate the relationship between religious practice and the attitudes towards offenders. The study was carried out with adolescents and young people of both sexes. The sample comprised 673 male and female, with an average age of 18.28 and standard desviation of 1.21. As regards the religion that they practiced: 555 were catholic (82.5%) 39 were evangelical (5.8%) and others 79 (11.7%). To assess the level of religious practice, a grid with items containing the frequency of religious practice was prepared, taking into account the person’s self perception. The second instrument used was the Attitudes Towards Offenders Questionnaire (ATOQ). This instrument consists of seven scales, grouped into three factors: passive, aggressive and prosocial behavior, corresponding to the different responses to situations of offence: submission, denial, vengeance, resentment, hostility, claim for an explanation and forgiveness. The result of MANOVA of the tree factors of ATOQ, according to religious practice (practitioner, occasional practitioner and not practitioner), stated a significant difference. When analyzing the contrasts we can see that practitioners are less aggressive with respect to occasional practitioners and non practitioners. As regards the prosocial factor, the only significant contrast is shown in practitioners, who have a higher average of prosocial attitudes compared to non-practitioners.

Effect of Wholemeal Durum Wheat Varieties on Bread Quality  [PDF]
Alessandra Danza, Marcella Mastromatteo, Lucia Lecce, Sara Spinelli, Janine Laverse, Vincenzo Lampignano, Francesco Contò, Matteo Alessandro Del Nobile
Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2014.511108

In this work the effect of six varieties of durum wheat semolina on the bread physico-chemical and sensorial properties was addressed. In particular, whole grains of durum wheat (Anco Marzio, Claudio, Core, Iride, Saragolla and Cappelli) were finely milled by using an ancient stone milling system. Texture analysis was carried out on both dough and bread samples to evaluate their firmness. Furthermore, tomographic analysis was performed on the bread samples in order to provide a more detailed view of their texture. The Glucose Equivalent, the chemical and the sensory analyses of the bread were also determined. Results highlighted that the lowest Glucose Equivalent valuewas achieved in bread produced with the Anco Marzio cultivar, which appeared instead the worst in terms of texture. Among the investigated samples, bread from the Cappelli variety showed good structural characteristic, a moderate Glucose Equivalent compared to the reference sample (CTRL) and the highest sensory quality.

Faria, José Eduardo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142004000200006
Abstract: this paper has three goals. first, it points out the gap between the brazilian system of justice and its social and economic enviroment. second, it puts in debate the well known "judicialization of politics" phenomena, taking into account the increasing political and functional intervention of judges and prosecutors in such a complex and unequal society, like the brazilian one, and identifying the effects of this performance on the autonomy of the legal system. third, the paper comments the impact of the economic globalization on the brazilian legal system and the subsequently rupture of the monopoly of tribunals on resolution of disputes.
Territorial hypothesis predicts the trade-off between reproductive opportunities and parental care in three species of damselfishes (Pomacentridae: Actinopterygii)
Bessa,Eduardo; Sabino,José;
Latin american journal of aquatic research , 2012,
Abstract: paternal care is rare in most animals, but common in fishes, including pomacentridae. one way of explaining it is through the territorial hypothesis, which predicts that paternal care may evolve when caring for a territory with eggs will not cost more than territories without eggs. here we describe the reproductive behavior of three pomacentrids from s?o paulo, brazil, and evaluate if the territorial hypothesis explains their behavioral variation through five predictions. we checked if females have multiple spawns (prediction 1), if they forage more (prediction 2) and if territory defence demands more when eggs are present (prediction 3). we also described how visible eggs are (prediction 4) and how available nesting sites are (prediction 5). chromis multilineata differed from abudefduf saxatilis and stegastes fuscus by not guarding the eggs, spending less time with territoriality and fanning eggs; and more time feeding and foraging. females of the three species are iteroparous. females' a. saxatilis and s. fuscus foraged more than males, which spent the same amount of time in territorial defence before and after eggs were delivered. these two species also have very conspicuous egg clutches on clean rock surfaces defended by them. on the other hand, males and females of c. multilineata spent the same time foraging, while territoriality took more effort after eggs were present and it spawns cryptic eggs amid sargassum, a common and disperse micro-environment in s?o paulo rocky shores. territorial hypothesis explains why paternal care by a. saxatilis and s. fuscus lasts longer than by c. multilineata.

Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 1993, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64451993000200003
Abstract: the author argues that economic and social law lacks effectiveness in brazil. for him this is due to the structural crisis of a national state unable to match legal order with material justice, judicial certainty with social reforms, macroeconomic stabilization with democratic legitimation.
Importancia da entreajuda no apoio a pais em luto
Rebelo,José Eduardo;
Análise Psicológica , 2005,
Abstract: starting from the accompaniment of a self-helping group for bereavement parents, we intended to encourage the participants through a social support to the individual evolution of grief. between january 2002 and january 2003 several bereavement parents were observed in monthly meetings of two hours. the discussion was centred in themes about the grieving phases, moderated by two parents with very experienced grief. the meetings occurred in aveiro. the data collected included the history of life and the texts from observation. twenty-one parents participated in the group, varying between eight and fourteen in the different meetings, mostly women, with an average age of 52,5 years old. the ages of the lost children varied between 1 and 35 years old, and the cause of death was mostly the accident in road. the parents with recent grief, less than one year, found in the support group an adequate social help. the parents with long grief, more than one year, showed contradictory feelings towards the support group, abandoning or remaining in it. the parents that used anti-depressive medication since the beginning or in the grieving course showed evidences of conflict in the development of the healthy grief with tendency for pathological deviations.
