Nery, Fabiano Gon?alves;Borba, Eduardo Ferreira;Lotufo Neto, Francisco;
Revista Brasileira de Reumatologia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0482-50042004000500007
Abstract: several studies demonstrate that clinical diseases may worsen under the influence of psychologically stressing factors. however few studies have been realized to establish this correlation in systemic lupus erythematosus (sle). in the present article, studies about the association and influence of psychological or social stress in patients with sle were reviewed. studies were identified by a medline search, relating the terms "stress", "lupus", "disease activity", and "flare". fourteen articles were selected but presented a great variability in the employed methodology. the majority failed to find associations between the presence of stress and worsening of clinical or laboratorial activity of sle. nevertheless, association between presence of stress and worse perception of physical health by the patient, through subjective measures of health was identified. three studies of laboratorial model of psychological stress showed that biological response to stress in sle patients differs from normal controls and patients with rheumatoid arthritis. only one study showed that daily stress in social relationships or social duties in the previous month preceded sle exacerbation.

Dieta e aspectos nutricionais no lúpus eritematoso sistêmico
Klack, Karin;Bonfa, Eloisa;Borba Neto, Eduardo Ferreira;
Revista Brasileira de Reumatologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0482-50042012000300009
Abstract: the authors reviewed the influence of nutritional factors on systemic lupus erythematosus (sle) and discussed an alternative treatment option. the autoimmunity and inflammatory process of sle are related to the presence of dyslipidemia, obesity, systemic arterial hypertension, and metabolic syndrome, which should be properly considered to decrease cardiovascular risk. a diet with moderate protein and energy content, but rich in vitamins, minerals (especially antioxidants), and mono/polyunsaturated fatty acids can promote a beneficial protective effect against tissue damage and suppression of inflammatory activity, in addition to helping the treatment of those comorbidities. diet therapy is a promising approach and some recommendations may offer a better quality of life to patients with sle.

The authors analyzed GOT and GPT serum levels as well as total protein in five bovines experimentally poisoned by C CL4. It was found that transaminase serum levels can be used as an index of hepatocytes physical and chemical alterations; and that total protein, specially Albumin, serve as an index of hepatic incapacity in the Protein Synthesis.
Evaluation of Soybean Cultivars of Contrasting Cycles according to the Level of Investment in Fertilization  [PDF]
Emerson Borghi, Eduardo de Paula Sim?o, álvaro Vilela de Resende, Jo?o Carlos Cardoso Galv?o, Sebasti?o Pedro da Silva Neto, André Ferreira Pereira
American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2017.812202
Abstract: The objective of the present study was to characterize the duration of the phenological stages, the agronomic characteristics and grain yield in soybean cultivars with contrasting cycles and indeterminate growth type, submitted to different fertilization investment environments under no-tillage system in the central region of Minas Gerais. The work was conducted under field conditions, in an experimental area of Embrapa Maize and Sorghum, in Sete Lagoas, MG, in the harvest of 2015/2016. Ten soybean cultivars with different relative maturity groups (RMG) were studied, representing almost all RMG materials currently sown in Minas Gerais, in two environments with different levels of fertilizer investment. The variables were submitted to analysis of joint variance, in order to verify the existence of interaction between cultivars and investment in fertilization environments. Fertilizer investment levels influence grain yield of soybean cultivars of contrasting cycles. The higher height of the soybean plants implies higher lodging and lower grain yield. This situation is aggravated by the greater investment in fertilization. The difference between the cycles of the cultivars is in the duration of the vegetative stages, being greater in the later cultivars.
Fraturas da diáfise do úmero
Benegas, Eduardo;Ferreira Neto, Arnaldo Amado;Bolliger Neto, Raul;Prada, Flavia de Santis;Malavolta, Eduardo Angeli;Marchitto, Gustavo Oliveira;
Revista Brasileira de Ortopedia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-36162010000100003
Abstract: humeral shaft fractures (hsf) represent 3% of fractures of the locomotor apparatus, the mid-third section of the shaft being the most commonly affected. in the majority of cases, it is treated by non-surgical methods, but surgical indications in hsf are increasingly being adopted. the diversity of opinions makes it difficult to reach a consensus regarding to the type of osteosynthesis, surgical technique, and quantity and quality of the synthesis materials to be used. it would appear that specialists are far from reaching a consensus as to the best method for the surgical treatment of hsf. we believe that less invasive methods, which favor relative stability, are the most appropriate methods, as the most feared complications are less frequent.

Almeida, Alexander Moreira de;Lotufo Neto, Francisco;
Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-44462003000400011
Abstract: objectives: to revise theories and the available evidence about cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt) role on the relapse and recurrence prevention of depressive episodes. methods: review of random and controlled clinical trials that investigated cbt efficacy on the relapse and recurrence prevention of depressive episodes. the following databases were used: medline, lilacs, cochrane, biosis and embase. the reference sections of the selected articles, review articles and specialized books were consulted. results: fifteen studies with different experimental design were found, several with methodological problems. the majority of them compared cbt with antidepressants at the acute treatment phase. in 12 studies cbt significantly lowered the relapse/recurrence rate. recent papers pointed to the cbt usefulness for treating residual depressive symptoms as a recurrence prevention strategy. conclusion: cbt was effective for the depression relapse reduction. its relationship with antidepressants as a prevention tool and cbt strategies (using it only in the acute phase, or during acute and maintenance phases, or after antidepressants withdrawal as a maintenance treatment, or focusing residual symptoms) need to be better investigated.

Abstract: experiences regarded as mediumistic have been found in most civilizations and have exerted an important influence over the societies. despite few academic studies nowadays, mediumship was a subject of serious investigations by some psychiatry and psychology pioneers. research developed by janet, james, myers, freud and jung concerning mediumship was revised, two points were stressed: its causes and its relations with psychopathology. these researchers had come to three distinct conclusions. janet and freud associated mediumship with psychopathology and an exclusive origin in the personal unconscious; jung and james accepted the possibility of a non-pathological aspect of mediumship and an origin in the personal unconscious, but without definitively excluding the actuation of a discarnate spirit. finally, myers saw mediumship as a higher development of the personality, having as its causes a combination of the unconscious, telepathy and the action of discarnate spirits. the authors argue the need to become acquainted with the studies already done in order to resume these investigations in search of a really scientific paradigm about mediumship.
