Abstract: the objective of this work was to determine the coefficients of repeatability of morphophysiological traits in elephant grass (pennisetum spp.) genotypes, from data obtained during six evaluation cycles. the minimum number of measurements and genetic parameters were estimated. the experiment design was a randomized complete block, in a split?plot arrangement, with four n levels (control, 30, 60, and 90 kg ha?1 per cut) and 16 pennisetum genotypes (11 interspecific hybrids and five cultivars). the cycles consisted of evaluations in 2010 (4/21, 7/19, and 9/28) and 2011 (1/6, 4/7, and 8/3). the coefficients of repeatability were of medium?high magnitude for all variables, indicating that there was regularity between repeated measures. for the variables forage mass, plant height, leaf length and width, stem diameter, leaf chlorosis and area index, three cycles of evaluation are enough to reach r2 of 90% by principal component analysis. for internode length, the minimal of seven evaluations is necessary to predict the true value of genotypes. the genetic parameters of the variables forage mass, leaf length and width, stem diameter and leaf chlorosis are of high magnitude, favoring the selection of superior pennisetum genotypes.
Aspectos da amizade de adolescentes portadores de diabetes e cancer

Abstract: this paper analyzes certain aspects of friendships amongst adolescents with diabetes mellitus and cancer, including a record of the reaction to the diagnosis, in addition to companionship, self-disclosure and intimacy, social support, conflict and the expectations from a friendship. twelve participants were interviewed, including three with diabetes and three of their friends, and three individuals who had cancer and three friends. these friendships were largely similar to typical friendships, particularly in terms of companionship and the existence of conflict. on the other hand, the diabetes or cancer seem to affect some aspects of friendship. social support becomes more important and asymmetric. self-disclosure and intimacy are more tentative when it comes to the subject of the disease. the expectations of friendship emphasize social support. our data also suggest that friends may grow apart or become closer as a result of a chronic disease such as cancer or diabetes.

Abstract: In the present study, 229 horses were evaluated, belonging to 76 properties, 25 Municipalities of the Center-Western region of So Paulo State, covered for a period of clinical observations from 1984 to 2010. Were performed sampling grazing elephant grass and various supplements for dosages minerals, being macro and microminerals and oxalate content in dry matter (DM) of Brachiaria humidicola and elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum). The equids of farms with a history of skeletal or osteoarticular problems were evaluated for Calcium (Ca), Phosphorus (P) and Creatinine (Cr) in urine and serum to determine the percentage of Cr depuration for the Ca and P (%DRCr-Ca and P). The clinical observations of osteopathies were determined. The main lesions found in animals after death were evaluated. The analysis leaf mineral of B. humidicola presented values ranging from 2.40 g Ca to 3.68 g Ca/kg DM and 0.40 g P to 0.74 g P/kg DM. The high toxic levels of oxalate ranged from 1.15-3.10% oxalic acid in DM of B. humidicola and 4% in DM of elephant grass. The higher Ca/Oxalate ratio was 0.37 (B. humidicola) and the lower of 0.08 (P. purpureum). The largest amounts were excreted 58 mg of Ca and P 47.50 mg/dL in the urine and the lowest was 4 mg Ca and 3.50 mg P/dL of urine. The clearance of ratio, ranged from 0.63-6.28% ( = 2.48; sd 1.28; cv = 51.61%) for %DR- Ca, while the %DR- P ranged from 1.23-35.92% ( = 17.33; sd 8.35; cv = 48.15%). 50% of values of %DRCr-Ca and 95% of values of %DRCr-P were considered abnormal, thus predisposing to osteopathy and renal dysfunction as glomerulonephritis and nephritis. Above of 50% of the animals of properties, presented one or more types of skeletal tissue disease, affecting bones flat (osteochondrosis) or long bone (epiphysitis). Young animals showed accelerated growth in bone problems of members. Animals at play and hard work showed symptoms of nutritional secondary Hyperparathyroidism (HPTNS) when presenting the fibrous osteodystrophy ("swollen face disease") in addition to problems with the locomotor apparatus and in general with the skeletal system. The diagnosis in a timely manner the problem of imbalance in the diet using the technique of %DRCr-Ca and P possible prevention of osteopathies, those reversible. The change of grazing animals to forage less oxalic acid content (<0.50%) and appropriate supplementation prevented the problem, except frames and pathophysiology of chronic glomerulonephritis due to HPTNS. Young animals in accelerated growth showed bone problems of members. Animals in reproduction and hard work showed s

Abstract: staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium from gram-positive coccus group, which is part of the human microbiota. it may cause diseases that may vary from simple infections (i.e., pimples and furuncles) to severe infections, such as pneumonia, meningitis, endocarditis, toxic shock syndrome and septicemia, among others. this bacterium was one of the first bacteria affected by antibacterial agents, however, its ability of adaptation and resistance turns it into an important hospital and communitarian pathogenic species of great concern. in this article we will discuss some important points related to the s. aureus and the pathologies related to it to reinforce it as a target for the design of new antibiotics.

Abstract: optic nerve avulsion is a rare, but devastating complication. in this condition, the optic nerve is forcibly disinserted from the retina, choroid, and vitreous, and the lamina cribrosa is retracted from the scleral rim. if the media are clear, the avulsion is easily diagnosed. the appearance of the fundus is striking, with a hole or cavity where the optic disc has retracted into its dural sheath. the complementary examinations are not very accurate for the diagnosis of this pathology and with some residual vision, opaque media, that occur in partial avulsion, the diagnosis may be mistaken or delayed. in this article we report a case of complete optic nerve avulsion examined at the retina and vitreous department of the "hospital das clínicas" of the federal university of uberlandia - mg - brazil.

Abstract: background: situs inversus totalis is an important discovery for the conduct of clinical surgery. the foreign body in the large intestine can occur due to ingestion or anal introduction. the intestinal perforation is accompanied by high morbidity and becomes a challenge for the surgeons. case report: patient, male, 28 years old, mentally feeble, with pain and abdominal distension for seven days, anorexia for two days, no elimination of gas and feces, no vomiting. on the examination he showed mild dyspnea, dehydration (++/4++), blood pressure= 70x40mmhg, anicteric, tense abdomen, diffusely painful, distended and hypertympanic, hydroaerial sounds absent. the thorax x-ray evidenced cardiac dextroversion, pneumoperitoneum bilaterally with gastric bubble on the right. due to the general serious condition and confirmed diagnosis of acute abdomen perforation, a hydroelectrolytic vein replacement was held and the patient was submitted to an exploratory celiotomy, observing fecaloid diffuse peritonitis and perforation of sigmoid colon for foreign body taken away followed by mechanical cleaning, washing peritoneal cavity, hartmann retossigmoidectomy, and bilateral drainage. conclusion: although a rare entity, the diagnosis of situs inversus totalis must be suspected in a physical examination and confirmed through image examinations, since the anatomic variations can disrupt the performance of clinical surgery.
