Clinics , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1807-59322008000600006
Abstract: objective: this study analyzes the reliability of the pheem questionnaire translated into portuguese. we present the results of pheem following distribution to doctors in three different medical residency programs at a university hospital in brazil. introduction: efforts to understand environmental factors that foster effective learning resulted in the development of a questionnaire to measure medical residents' perceptions of the level of autonomy, teaching quality and social support in their programs. methods: the questionnaire was translated using the modified brislin back-translation technique. cronbach's alpha test was used to ensure good reliability and anova was used to compare pheem results among residents from the surgery, anesthesiology and internal medicine departments. the kappa coefficient was used as a measure of agreement, and factor analysis was employed to evaluate the construct strength of the three domains suggested by the original pheem questionnaire. results: the pheem survey was completed by 306 medical residents and the resulting cronbach's alpha was 0.899. the weighted kappa was showed excellent reliability. autonomy was rated most highly by internal medicine residents (63.7% ± 13.6%). teaching was rated highest in anesthesiology (66.7% ± 15.4%). residents across the three areas had similar perceptions of social support (59.0% ± 13.3% for surgery; 60.5% ± 13.6% for internal medicine; 61.4% ± 14.4% for anesthesiology). factor analysis suggested that nine factors explained 58.9% of the variance. conclusions: this study indicates that pheem is a reliable instrument for measuring the quality of medical residency programs at a brazilian teaching hospital. the results suggest that quality of teaching was the best indicator of overall response to the questionnaire.

Creative Education (CE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2012.34087
Abstract: In the context of medical school instruction, the segmented approach of a focus on specialties and excessive use of technology seem to hamper the development of the professional–patient relationship and an understanding of the ethics of this relationship. The real world presents complexities that require multiple approaches. Engagement in the community where health competence is developed allows extending the usefulness of what is learned. Health services are spaces where the relationship between theory and practice in health care are real and where the social role of the university can be revealed. Yet some competencies are still lacking and may require an explicit agenda to enact. Ten topics are presented for focus here: environmental awareness, involvement of students in medical school, social networks, interprofessional learning, new technologies for the management of care, virtual reality, working with errors, training in management for results, concept of leadership, and internationalization of schools. Potential barriers to this agenda are an underinvestment in ambulatory care infrastructure and community-based health care facilities, as well as in information technology offered at these facilities; an inflexible departmental culture; and an environment centered on a discipline-based medical curriculum.

Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132000000300007
Abstract: some limnological aspects of lake massacará (adjoining the paraopeba river, s?o francisco river basin) were studied during two periods of the hydrological cycle. water transparency was equally low during both the periods. during high water, thermal stratification was recorded, with a clinograde oxygen profile; ph was slightly acid, and conductivity was higher near the bottom. concentrations of inorganic carbon and ammonia, and rates of primary production were higher than during the low water period. during the latter period, complete mixing occurred, with a clinograde oxygen profile; ph was slightly acid, and conductivity unvarying with depth. higher concentrations of nitrate were found than during high water. with regard to the zooplankton communities, higher density and species richness of organisms occurred during high water. copepods and rotifers were most numerous during both periods. the taxa identified consisted of 17 rotifers, four copepods, six cladocerans, five protozoans, and two macroinvertebrates. the most abundant species were thermocyclops minutus, keratella cochlearis, k. lenzi, and trichocerca capucina during high water, and thermocyclops minutus and conochilus unicornis during low water.

Abstract:

In order to exploit native fish species for aquaculture, basic parameters of artificial reproducetion and estimates of reproductive potential for this fish must be determined to improve hatchery success. We analyze seven Brazilian commercial fish. Spawning was induced using the hypophysation method, with injection of crude carp pituitary extract (CCPE). Characiformes species signaled the spawning time with behavioral alterations (usually circular movements). The time of oocyte extrusion varied from 5.3 ± 0.3 h in Salminus franciscanus to 8.6 ± 0.1 h in Prochilodus argenteus after the second CCPE injection. The greatest diameter of a vitellogenic oocyte was registered for P. argenteus (873.9 ± 122.2 μm) and the smallest was for Pimelodus maculates (465.4 ± 36.3 μm). The diameter of vitellogenic oocytes was very similar among species belonging to the same family. The highest ROI values were registered for Prochilodus costatus(27.0 ± 3.5 μm) and P. argenteus (23.4 ± 3.7 μm), while the lowest values were found in Pseudoplatystoma corruscans (4.6 ± 0.9 μm) and P. maculatus (6.0 ± 1.3 μm). Absolute fecundity (number of oocytes released at spawning) was lowest in P. maculatus and highest in P. corruscans. Relative fecundity (RF) presented a high correlation (r = 0.98 to 0.99) with gonad weight, indicating high efficiency of spawning. The RF also

Creative Education (CE) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2015.617198
Abstract: This research presents an analysis of the University City of São Paulo (UNICID) medical school teaching and learning environment, a school in Brazyl which employs active methodologies. A total of three hundred and ninety one students participated voluntarily in the research, being one hundred and fifty five students on its first phase, in the year of 2006, and two hundred and thirty six students in 2009. The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) has been employed for accessing an evaluation of UNICID medical school academic environment. The DREEM questionnaire consists on 50 items assessing the school’s educational environment in five dimensions, to which scores have been attributed. A maximum of 200 points have been ascribed according to each dimension: Perception of Learning (with 12 items and maximum score of 48 points), Perception of Teaching (with 11 items and maximum score of 44 points), Academic Self-perception (with 8 items and maximum score of 32 points), Perception of the Environment (with 12 items and maximum score of 48 points) and Social Self-perception (with 7 items and maximum score of 28 points). The higher the score reaches, the more positively can be regarded the results. As the results show, the score increases in the second phase of the research. Each dimension will be analyzed separately and the differences in scores between them will be explained.

Open Journal of Soil Science (OJSS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojss.2017.78013
Abstract: Natural phosphate rock (NP) solubilization in soils is dependent on the soil pH and its power to remove or drain (sink effect) P and Ca of the solution that is in equilibrium with the NP. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of acidity and P- and Ca-sinks on the solubilization of bayóvar reactive rock phosphate (a phosphorite). Samples of this NP in aqueous suspension were placed in a cassette (Slide-A-Lyzzer G2 Dialysis Cassette) compartment and immersed in a beaker containing 150 mL of an aqueous solution with pH adjusted at 4.5 or 6.0, where P- and Ca-sinks individually or in their combinations, were applied. The tested sinks were: Anionic Resin (AR); Cationic Resin (CR); Mixed Resin (MR: AR + CR); Goethite (Goe); Goe + AR; Goe + CR and one control (NP only) in five replicates. Beakers (experimental units) were shaken for 12 h daily, at 130 rpm, until completing 30 days of equilibrium. The suspensions were filtered to extract solution-P from the residue on the filter paper; the labile-P was extracted from this residue using 0.8 mol·L-1 NH4Cl in 2 mol·L-1 HCl and, finally, the remainder P in the same residue together with the filter paper were subjected to nitric-perchloric acid digestion, to determine the P-residual in the extract. Goe caused greater solubilization of the NP, indicating that this P-sink was more effective than AR, causing similar or greater solubilization than CR. AR and CR, in a similar way, significantly restricted the trait characteristic of Goe (p < 0.05), at both pH values, in the solubilization of NP. Although Goe generally caused greater solubilization of the NP, it also caused the lower formation of labile-P. The CR presented, in general, the highest contents of solution-P, thus it triggered solubilization of NP without the immobilization of the solution-P, unlike the one with the AR that adsorbs it. In the lower pH condition (4.5), the solubilization of NP tended to be higher than at pH 6.0, although in a little effective way, compared to the effects of the sinks.
