Abstract: This research presents some reflections about the actions developed by the project “Revela es da História” (History Revelation), an initiative constituted by photograph researchers in the city of Londrina (Paraná State, Brazil), between the years of 2005 and 2008, that resulted in the identification, formation, re-integration and diffusion of anonymous visual heaps, as well as the publishing of two books that inserted in Londrina′s community inedited visual collections: the Foto Estrela′s and the Armínio Kaiser′s heaps. Some reflections about fragments of these photographic collections were made in order to enlarge and to consolidate the importance of this preservation initiative starting from some contents not explored by the project “Revela es da História”. The theoretical discussions were made under the light of concepts from Vilém Flüsser philosophy, the linguistic theory of Mikhail Bakhtin and the French line of semiotics theory. The research also ratifies the importance of these heaps to the constitution of a visual memory about “sceneries and characters in Brazil” and about the building of social history as the researcher Boris Kossoy proposes. Moreover, the main lines of action from the project “Revela es da História” also were presented in relation to the theoretical bases, methods and instruments that have guided it, intending to be a reference to future projects of the same type. The results presented at this research ratify the importance and the value of the lightening up and democratization of anonymous pho tographic heaps to the universe of the knowledge. Esta pesquisa apresenta algumas reflex es em torno das a es realizadas pelo projeto “Revela es da História”, iniciativa constituída por pesquisadores da fotografia na cidade de Londrina, realizado entre 2005 e 2008, que resultou na identifica o, forma o, reintegra o e difus o de acervos visuais an nimos, bem como na publica o de dois livros que inseriram na comunidade de Londrina conjuntos visuais inéditos: o acervo do Foto Estrela e acervo de Armínio Kaiser. Para isso, foram realizados alguns ensaios teóricos sobre fragmentos destes conjuntos fotográficos a fim de ampliar e consolidar a relevancia da iniciativa de preserva o a partir do tratamento dos conteúdos n o explorados pelo projeto “Revela es da História”. Interferência do ácido ascórbico nas determina？？es de parametros bioquímicos séricos: estudos in vivo e in vitro

Abstract: background: ascorbic acid, when present in biological samples, can produce a negative interference in several biochemical tests that use redox indicator systems. objectives: we evaluated the ascorbic acid interference on serum biochemical tests in relation to the dose of vitamin c ingested and to the time of blood collection, and compared these results with in vitro interference. methods: healthy volunteers (n =18) consumed increasing and successive doses of vitamin c (0.25 to 4g/day) for one week. biochemical analytes were measured before and after each dose consumption. serum samples were obtained 4, 12 and 24 h after vitamin c ingestion. ascorbic acid was added in vitro to the human serum and the biochemical analytes were assayed up to 24 h after addition. results and discussion: serum ascorbic acid increased significantly after vitamin c ingestion, inhibiting the assays for urate and total bilirubin up to 24 h after ingestion (p < 0,01). in contrast, the ingested vitamin c did not interfere on the glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides tests. in vitro ascorbic acid inhibited the reactions for all studied tests, proportional to the ascorbic acid amount and inversely proportional to the analyte concentrations. the urate test had in vitro interference only, whereas for bilirubin there were in vitro and, mainly, in vivo interference. conclusion: to avoid false-negative results of serum urate and bilirubin we recommend the suspension of vitamin c intake at least 48 horas before blood collection.
Interferência do ácido ascórbico nas determina es de parametros bioquímicos séricos: estudos in vivo e in vitro

Abstract: INTRODU O: O ácido ascórbico, quando presente em amostras biológicas, pode interferir nos ensaios laboratoriais que utilizam rea es de oxidorredu o. OBJETIVOS: Estabelecer o grau de interferência do ácido ascórbico nas determina es bioquímicas séricas em rela o à dose de vitamina C, ingerida e ao tempo de coleta das amostras e comparar com o efeito interferente in vitro. MéTODOS: Voluntários saudáveis (n = 18) consumiram doses crescentes e sucessivas de 0,25 a 4g/dia de vitamina C durante uma semana cada dose. As determina es bioquímicas de ácido úrico, bilirrubina, colesterol total, glicose e triglicerídeos foram realizadas antes e 4, 12 e 24 horas após a última ingest o de cada dose. No estudo in vitro, concentra es crescentes de ácido ascórbico foram adicionadas ao soro humano e os analitos foram determinados até 24 horas após a adi o. RESULTADOS E DISCUSS O: Os níveis séricos de ácido ascórbico aumentaram significativamente após a ingest o da vitamina C, provocando inibi o nas determina es de ácido úrico e bilirrubina total 4, 12 e 24 horas após a ingest o (p < 0,01). Em contrapartida, a ingest o de vitamina C n o interferiu nas determina es de glicose, colesterol e triglicerídeos. O ácido ascórbico inibiu in vitro as rea es dos analitos estudados, diretamente proporcional à concentra o de ácido ascórbico e inversamente proporcional à concentra o dos analitos. Para o ácido úrico houve interferência analítica apenas, enquanto que para a bilirrubina a interferência foi analítica e, principalmente, metabólica. CONCLUS O: Para evitar resultados falso-negativos para ácido úrico e bilirrubina sugerimos a suspens o da ingest o de vitamina C 48 horas antes da coleta de sangue.
Synthesis of a bicyclo[6.3.0]undecene skeleton characteristic of some cyclooctanoids by an intramolecular reductive coupling of carbonyls promoted by low - valent titanium

Abstract: the synthesis of a bicyclo[6.3.0]undecene skeleton characteristic of a number of cyclooctanoid natural products is described. the methodology applied relies on an intramolecular reductive coupling of a dialdehyde promoted by low valent titanium to construct the key eight-membered ring. the use of c8k-ticl3 as an alternative process to the classical coupling developed by mcmurry is presented. the dialdehyde 15, precursor of the bicyclo[6.3.0]undecene system, was constructed in a concise manner from 2-carbomethoxy-cyclopentanone in 5 steps with an overall yield of 40%. the key carbonyl coupling of dialdehyde 15 to produce the eight-membered ring proceeded in low yields (~10%) despite several attempts to increase its efficiency.
Crescimento diferencial e eficiência de uso em zinco de cultivares de milho submetidos a doses de zinco em um Latossolo Vermelho = Differential growth and zinc efficiency use of maize cultivars in response to zinc rates in an Oxisol

Abstract: Realizou-se este trabalho em casa de vegeta o para avaliar o crescimento e eficiência em Zn de cultivares de milho de diferentes tecnologias submetidos a doses de Zn, relacionando a resposta da cultura com o teor desse micronutriente no solo e na planta. Oexperimento consistiu de um fatorial 4 ′ 3 [quatro doses de Zn (0, 1, 2 e 3 mg kg-1) e três cultivares (variedade Al-Manduri, híbrido duplo C 701 e híbrido triplo P 3041, definidos comercialmente como sendo de baixa, média e alta tecnologia, respectivamente)] em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. Os híbridos C 701 e P 3041 necessitaram de doses mais elevadas de Zn do que a variedade Al-Manduri para expressarem a produ o máxima de massa seca da parte aérea, o que foi associado à exigência diferenciada de cada cultivar em Zn disponível no solo. Por outro lado, os cultivares Al-Manduri e P 3041 foram maiseficientes no uso em Zn do que o cultivar C 701. Tanto no solo como na planta, os híbridos apresentaram nível crítico de Zn mais elevado do que a variedade. This work was carried out in a greenhouse to evaluate the growth and Zn efficiency of maize cultivars of different technologies submittedto Zn rates, relating the plants’ response to Zn level in both soil and plant. The experiment had a factorial arrangement 4 ′ 3 [four Zn rates (0, 1, 2, and 3 mg kg-1) and three cultivars (variety Al-Manduri, double-cross hybrid C 701, and triple-cross hybrid P 3041)] in a completely randomized design. Hybrids C 701 and P 3041 needed higher Zn rates than the Al-Manduri variety to express maximum dry matter production of the plant shoot, which was associated with different requirements of each cultivar for available Zn in soil. On the other hand, Al-Manduri and P 3041 cultivars presented a higher Zn use efficiency than the C 701 cultivar. The hybrids had Zn critical level higher than the variety, both in soil and plant.
Resistance of melon cultivars to Bemisia tabaci biotype B

Abstract: the silverleaf whitefly, bemisia tabaci biotype b, is currently one of the most important pests of melon, causing direct and indirect damage to plants, and significantly reducing production in the field. due to the need for alternative methods of chemical control in melon crops, the melon cultivars af-646, af-682, don luis, frevo, jangada, nilo, vereda, amarelo ouro and hales best were assessed at field, greenhouse, and laboratory trials for resistance to whitefly b. tabaci biotype b. in general, 'hales best' and 'amarelo ouro' were the most resistant, showing oviposition non-preference against whitefly. the trichome density is associated with the variation in oviposition on the cultivars and should be further investigated in future work. these results may be helpful in melon breeding programs, focusing on plant resistance to b. tabaci biotype b.
A review on the development and properties of continuous fiber/epoxy/aluminum hybrid composites for aircraft structures

Abstract: weight reduction and improved damage tolerance characteristics were the prime drivers to develop new family of materials for the aerospace/aeronautical industry. aiming this objective, a new lightweight fiber/metal laminate (fml) has been developed. the combination of metal and polymer composite laminates can create a synergistic effect on many properties. the mechanical properties of fml shows improvements over the properties of both aluminum alloys and composite materials individually. due to their excellent properties, fml are being used as fuselage skin structures of the next generation commercial aircrafts. one of the advantages of fml when compared with conventional carbon fiber/epoxy composites is the low moisture absorption. the moisture absorption in fml composites is slower when compared with polymer composites, even under the relatively harsh conditions, due to the barrier of the aluminum outer layers. due to this favorable atmosphere, recently big companies such as embraer, aerospatiale, boing, airbus, and so one, starting to work with this kind of materials as an alternative to save money and to guarantee the security of their aircrafts.
Diet of Iheringichthys labrosus (Pimelodidae, Siluriformes) in the Itaipu Reservoir, Paraná River, Brazil-Paraguay

Abstract: iheringichthys labrosus is a secondary commercial fish species in the itaipu reservoir, but it is important in other reservoirs of the basin. however, little information exists about this species in the literature. the purpose of this study was to describe the diet of this species in the itaipu reservoir. stomachs of 306 fishes were analyzed, collected from october 1994 to september 1996 in the differents zones of the reservoir (according to a longitudinal gradient). the reservoir was separated into riverine (upper reach), transitional (middle reach), and lacustrine (next to the dam) zones. main items in the diet of i. labrosus were aquatic insects (mainly chironomidae) and mollusks (mainly bivalvia). their presence in the diet did not vary according to zones. also, there was little seasonal variation in the diet. this indicated a conservative diet that could be a result of the high abundance of the items in the reservoir, or restrictions imposed by its buccal and digestive apparatus.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to develop a mathematical model to predict the daily average of air temperature in goiás, brazil. the model was developed through a linear combination of altitude, latitude, longitude, and the incomplete trigonometric fourier series using the first three harmonic coefficients. the parameters of the model were adjusted with data from 21 weather stations, using multiple linear regression. the resulting correlation coefficient of the model was 0.91, and the willmott's index of agreement was close to 1. the model was tested with data from three additional weather stations at different altitudes: high (1,100 m), medium (554 m), and low (431 m). the performance of the model was reasonable for both high and low altitude stations, and very good for the medium altitude station.

Abstract: the herbicides glyphosate and paraquat have been used by brazilian soybean producers to obtain crop desiccation and to anticipate and uniformity at harvest. however, improper use of herbicides can to occasion problems in agronomic and physiologic characteristics of crop. this study aimed to evaluate the use of the glyphosate and paraquat herbicides as a desiccant for growing soybeans. the experiment was conducted in 2005/06 crop year, in an experimental design of randomized blocks with four replications. treatments were arranged in two factorial design, 3x3x5x2 and 3x2x5x2: two desiccants (glyphosate and paraquat) and control (without drying), three and two growth stages (r6, r7 and r8) and (r7 and r8) for varieties msoy 6101 of superprecocious cycle, and mg / br 46 (conquista) of precocious cycle, respectively, five sampling times (2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 days after application) and two positions in the plants on the ground assessment (apex and base). was evaluated for seed production, mass and water content of 100 seeds. desiccants tested were effective in reducing the water content of seeds, without affecting productivity and mass of 100 seeds.
