Emancipa o. Forma o Docente.
Sinonasal Adenocarcinoma—Experience of an Oncology Center  [PDF]

International Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery (IJOHNS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ijohns.2013.21005
Abstract: Introduction and Objectives: Sinonasal tumours represent only 3% of all head and neck cancers. Adenocarcinoma is the second most frequent histopathology type. Hardwood exposure has been considered a risk factor. Sinonasal adenocarcinoma grows silently which leads to a late diagnosis and low survival rates. The aim of this study was to present our experience in the management of the patients with sinonasal adenocarcinoma. Method: Retrospective medical records review of patients with sinonasal adenocarcinomas (1974 to 2009). Results: From 301 patients with sinonasal tumors, 67 had histology of adenocarcinoma. Patient average age was 60.1 ± 11.1 years (30 - 84 years). 83.6% were man. 65.7% had history of working with wood. 70.1% of the patients had advance disease. The most common treatment strategy was external surgery (lateral rhinotomy (47.8%), sublabial (17.9%) or cranio-facial resection (6%)) or endoscopic approaches with postoperative radiotherapy. The 3 and 5 years overall survival rate were 60% and 49%, respectively. Conclusions: Our group study showed similar epidemiologic characteristics than other series. We confirmed sinonasal adenocarcinomas tendency to late diagnosis and wood dust exposure relation. In our experience, the limited surgical treatment (without craniofacial resection) and postoperative radiotherapy has good survival rates results, similar to other departments who consider the craniofacial resection as the standard treatment.
Identidade e trabalho na conteporaneidade: repensando articula??es possíveis
Coutinho, Maria Chalfin;Krawulski, Edite;Soares, Dulce Helena Penna;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822007000400006
Abstract: the changes in contemporary society have been analyzed by several disciplines in the human sciences field, trying to understand its implications to the subjects e their social relations. in this context, theoretical categories have been put in question. here we present some possible theoretical articulations between the concepts of identity and work, considering the contemporary social scenery. identity is discussed from different social theories and the articulation with the concept of identification in psychoanalysis, emphasizing the dimension of its process. work in the contemporary capitalism system accepts configurations as flexibility, temporality, precariousness, informality, producing alterations that are expressed in the workers' ways of being. our reflections about the contemporary productive context make us affirm that, despite the hardships, the building of identity processes in the subjects still has a place. certainly they are transitory and ephemeral positions of subject, but it's not possible to deny the coherence and the continuance in each person's life history.

Texto & Contexto - Enfermagem , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-07072008000200003
Abstract: the study describes the nature of care under the view of merleau-ponty′s philosophy, through research carried out among family members who take care of relatives with alzheimer's and also integrate a mutual help group. the main objective was to describe the moments in which these caregivers identified themselves as caregivers, making it possible for them to transcend in their lives′ perspectives. the methodology was based on husserl's phenomenologic reduction, which allowed for the construction of the method designated as ambiguity analysis, used in empirical data analysis obtained through non-directive interviews with 10 carers, between july, 2005 and april, 2006. seven categories emerged from the analysis, with two highlighted in the present text: intentional orientation in care giving, and the ambiguity of demands in the process of becoming a caregiver. the study has shown to be relevant for emphasizing the ambiguous character of the care giving experience and how this aspect contributes to a more optimistic glance and prospective before care as a subject.

Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/741545
Abstract: Over the last 30 years the combination of both a sedentary lifestyle and excessive food availability has led to a significant increase in the prevalence of obesity and aggravation of rates of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Several lines of scientific evidence have been demonstrating that a low level of physical activity and decreased daily energy expenditure leads to the accumulation of visceral fat and, consequently, the activation of the oxidative stress/inflammation cascade, which underlies the development of insulin resistant T2DM and evolution of micro, and macrovascular complications. This paper focuses on the pathophysiological pathways associated with the involvement of oxidative stress and inflammation in the development of T2DM and the impact of regular physical exercise (training) as a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory strategy to prevent evolution of T2DM and its serious complications.
Regular physical exercise training assists in preventing type 2 diabetes development: focus on its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties

Cardiovascular Diabetology , 2011, DOI: 10.1186/1475-2840-10-12
Abstract: Our previous work showed, in an animal model of obese type 2 diabetes, the Zucker Diabetic Fatty (ZDF) rat, that regular and moderate intensity physical exercise (training) is able, per se, to attenuate insulin resistance and control glycaemia, dyslipidaemia and blood pressure, thus reducing cardiovascular risk, by interfering with the pathophysiological mechanisms at different levels, including oxidative stress and low-grade inflammation, which are key features of diabesity.This paper briefly reviews the wide pathophysiological pathways associated with Type 2 diabetes and then discusses in detail the benefits of training therapy on glycaemic control and on cardiovascular risk profile in Type 2 diabetes, focusing particularly on antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Based on the current knowledge, including our own findings using an animal model, it is concluded that regular and moderate intensity physical exercise (training), due to its pleiotropic effects, could replace, or at least reduce, the use of anti-diabetic drugs, as well as of other drugs given for the control of cardiovascular risk factors in obese type 2 diabetic patients, working as a physiological "polypill".Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) achieved proportions of a real epidemic and, according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the disease now affects 246 million people worldwide and is expected to affect about 380 million by 2025 [1]. This panorama is even more dramatic if considered that over the past 20 years its prevalence has increased dramatically among children and adolescents. As such, the incidence/prevalence of serious diabetic complications (which includes cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, blindness and amputations) as well as the premature death, will unequivocally deteriorate life quality and exacerbate health costs, unless more effective primary and secondary pharmacological and non-pharmacological (lifestyle interventional) strategies become more widely availa
