Abstract: silica gel was chemically modified with the aromatic amines p-anisidine, p-phenytidine and p-phenylenediamine, using grafting reactions. the resulting modified silicas were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and n2 adsorption/desorption isotherms. the organic groups were covalently immobilized in a monolayer form. these modified silicas were investigated as adsorbents for pb2+, cu2+, cd2+ and ni2+ in aqueous and ethanol solutions. in a general way, the adsorption capacity values for all adsorbents presented the following sequence: pb2+ >> cu2+ @cd2+ @ ni2+. adsorption studies for all adsorbents, in competitive medium, showed better selectivity for cu2+ and pb2+ in aqueous medium and for pb2+ in ethanol solution. desorption studies were carried out using hcl and hno3 as eluents.
La ciudad como cronotopo real histórico y la configuración del espacio de ficción en la novela Angosta del escritor colombiano Héctor Abad Faciolince
Silva Liévano,Edilson;
Folios , 2009,
Abstract: as the result of a brief study, this paper, contains an analysis of the novel angosta (2003), by colombian writer héctor abad faciolince. in order to make the fictional space configuration possible in the novel, the author refers to social theory and sociocritical methodology. this paper establishes the relation between the historic chronotopos -in this case the contemporary city- and the axiological configuration of the fictional space used in the novel. likewise, the analysis and the argumentation explore, sociologically and historically, the role played by the city in the so called modernity, and the critical judgment of literature regarding the human condition and the life it embraces.

Comparative Study of Catalytic Oxidation of Ethanol to Acetaldehyde Using Fe(III) Dispersed on Sb2O5 Grafted on SiO2 and on Untreated SiO2 Surfaces
Benvenutti, Edilson V.;Gushikem, Yoshitaka;
Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-50531998000500011
Abstract: fe(iii) was supported on sb(v) oxide grafted on the silica gel surface and directly on the silica gel surface using ion-exchange and impregnation processes producing fe/sb/sio2 and fe/sio2, respectively. the catalytic conversion of ethanol to acetaldehyde was much more efficient using fe/sb/sio2 than fe/sio2 as catalyst. this higher efficiency of the former catalyst takes into account two aspects: a) the new phase fesbo4 formed when fe/sb/sio2 is heat treated and, b) it is higher dispersion on the matrix.

Abstract: This work proposes a novel framework that enables one to compare distinct iterative procedures with known rates of convergence, in terms of the computational effort to be employed to reach some prescribed vicinity of the optimal solution to a given problem of interest. An algorithm is introduced that decides between two competing algorithms, which algorithm makes the best use of the computational resources for some prescribed error. Several examples are presented that illustrate the trade-offs involved in such a choice and demonstrate that choosing an algorithm over another with a higher rate of convergence can be perfectly justifiable in terms of the overall computational effort.

Abstract: due to the spread of the visceral leishmaniasis in brazilian territory, this research was undertaken with the objective to identify the sandfly fauna and aspects of the species? behavior in forest and anthropic environments in paraná state, brazil. the sandfly captures were sporadically carried out in 37 municipalities of the paraná state, during the period from march 2004 to november 2005. each municipality was once visited, when falc?o traps were installed during three consecutive nights in forested fragments and anthropic environments; captures with shannon traps installed in forests and edge of forests, inspection of walls and electric aspiration in domiciles and forested areas were sporadically undertaken. the data analysis was based on estimates of frequency and abundance of the species, by five native landscapes. a total of 38,662 specimens belonging to 23 species were captured. nyssomyia neivai (pinto) (75.6%), ny. whitmani (antunes & coutinho) (10.1%), migonemyia migonei (fran?a) (7.8%), expapillata firmatoi (barreto et al.) (2.1%) and pintomyia fischeri (pinto) (1.6%) together constituted 97.2% of the phlebotomine colletcted. high frequencies of sand flies were found in forests, henhouses, pigpens and domiciles. the three most frequent species have been implicated in transmission of tegumentary leishmaniasis in paraná and in the brazilian southeastern and southern regions. lutzomyia longipalpis (lutz & neiva), the visceral leishmaniasis vector was no found, however lutzomyia gaminariai (cordero et al.), female of which is similar to that of lu. longipalpis was captured, raising the need to investigate its behavior, including as regard to the vectorial competence.

Química Nova , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-40421999000500009
Abstract: the influence of the presence of hydrogen on pt/tio2 catalysts submitted to reduction treatment has been studied by ft-ir at room temperature. after submitting to ltr treatment, the hydrogen spillover has been detected and the presence of hydrogen at the bulk is shown to produce a strong absorption in the infrared spectral region. after htr treatment, the hydrogen is strongly chemissorbed.
