Abstract: white mold caused by sclerotinia sclerotiorum may severely damage vegetables grown in greenhouses. to develop a biological control program for this pathogen proper antagonists are needed. this work aimed to select efficient fungi antagonists for controlling s. sclerotiorum on cucumber (cucumis sativus) grown in greenhouses, and to evaluate the effect of the antagonist on the growth of the vegetable. an isolate of s. sclerotiorum obtained from cucumber and 112 fungi isolates belonging to four genera were used: trichoderma, fusarium, penicillium, and aspergillus. for the in vitro experiment, the cellophane method was used and eight trichoderma virens isolates were selected that had inhibited the pathogen growth by 94 to 100%. greenhouse experiments used sterilized and non-sterilized substrate in plastic cups and non-sterilized substrate in plastic bags. the substrate was inoculated with s. sclerotiorum and the eight isolates of t. virens were used as antagonists. all eight isolates controlled damping-off of plants caused by s. sclerotiorum, but the effect on cucumber growth varied according to the isolate and the substrate treatment.

Abstract: safflower may be an interesting option for the flower market, either as fresh or dried cut flower. estimating the leaf appearance rate and the phyllochron (the time interval between the appearance of successive leaves) is important for calculating the number of emerged leaves (nl) on the plant, which is an excellent measure of plant development. the objective of this study was to estimate the leaf appearance rate and the phyllochron in safflower (carthamus tinctorius l.). an experiment was conducted in santa maria, rs, brazil, inside an 8 x 15m plastic greenhouse. sowing was on 03 october 2003 and emergence was on 08 october 2003. the experimental design was a randomized complete block design with three replications. the main stem nl was measured twice a week from 24 october 2003 to 15 november 2003 in four plants per replication. daily growing degree days above a base temperature (5°c) and accumulated thermal time (tt) were calculated. the nl was linearly regressed against tt. the angular coefficient of the linear regression is the lar (leaves/ °c day) and the phyllochron (°c days/leaf) was estimated by the inverse of the angular coefficient of the linear regression. the lar was 0.0467 ± 0.0203 leaves/ °c day and the phyllochron was 25.5 ± 14.6°c days/leaf.

Abstract: this study was conducted with the objective of evaluating the effect of concentrate supplementation, formulated with different ingredients (mesquite pod meal, sorghum meal or wheat meal and mineral supplementation) on performance, intake and digestibility of nutrients in santa inês lambs grazing on urochloa grass during the dry season. twenty-four uncastrated weaned santa inês sheep, with average body weight (bw) 20±2 kg with an average of 120 days of age were used in the assay. the experiment lasted 75 days. the animals grazing deferred urochloa grass (urochloa mosambicensis (hack) daudy) were distributed into four treatments consisting of mineral supplementation provided ad libitum and concentrated supplements containing mesquite pod meal, sorghum meal or wheat meal, supplied 10 g /kg bw on dry matter basis. the intakes of dry matter (dm) and crude protein (cp) were affected by the intake of concentrate supplement, regardless of the ingredients used in the supplements, compared with the mineral supplementation treatment, since the consumption of forage was reduced in 30% with mesquite pod meal supplement, and neutral detergent fiber (ndf) intake was not affected in relation to treatments. the digestibility of dm and cp were higher for treatments with supplements, and ndf digestibility did not differ between treatments. a significant difference was observed in the values of average daily gain for the treatments with concentrate supplementation compared with the one of mineral supplementation. the supplementation with concentrate in grazing enables improvement of performance, intake and digestibility of nutrients regardless of the ingredient used in the supplement.

Revista de Administra??o (S?o Paulo) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-21072012000300011
Abstract: this research was based on a study of social enterprises in brazil, to find out if and how these organizations plan and manage the succession process for their senior positions. the study investigated the subset of the associations dedicated to collectively producing goods and services, because they are formally set up and aimed at speeding up the dynamism of local development. the empirical research consisted of two stages. the first was a survey covering a sample of 378 organizations, to find out which of those had already undergone or were undergoing a succession process. the second interviewed the main manager of 32 organizations, to obtain a description of their succession experience. in this stage, the research aimed to analyze how the individual, organization and environment dimensions interact to configure the succession process, identifying which factors of each of these dimensions can facilitate or limit this process. the following guiding elements were taken as the analytical basis: individual dimension - leadership roles, skill and styles; organization dimension - structure, planning, advisory boards, communication (transparency), control and evaluation; and environment dimension - influence of the stakeholders (community, suppliers, clients, and business partners) on the succession process. the results indicated that succession in the researched associations is in the construction stage: it adapts to the requirements of current circumstances but is evidently in need of improvement in order for more effective planning and shared management of the process to be achieved.
Nonlinearity Computation for Sparse Boolean Functions

Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: An algorithm for computing the nonlinearity of a Boolean function from its algebraic normal form (ANF) is proposed. By generalizing the expression of the weight of a Boolean function in terms of its ANF coefficients, a formulation of the distances to linear functions is obtained. The special structure of these distances can be exploited to reduce the task of nonlinearity computation to solving an associated binary integer programming problem. The proposed algorithm can be used in cases where applying the Fast Walsh transform is infeasible, typically when the number of input variables exceeds 40.

GEST?O.Org : Revista Eletr?nica de Gest?o Organizacional , 2010,
Abstract: This article focuses on the alliance between a third sector organization and the government, andthe articulations of the former as strategy in quest of sustainability. The objective was toinvestigate the feasibility of an alliance betweenan NGO and the City Hall, and how this alliance isset within a strategic process. The categories of analysis that led to the empirical study wereguided by the following dimensions: the forms, thenature of relationships and the types of linksamong those involved. The predominant approach wasof descriptive qualitative character. For data collection, the techniques of semi-structured interviews and analysis of documents were adopted. The analysis and interpretation were obtained by means of data triangulation. The results showedthat the NGO under study was able to become closer to the government, by attending part of thegovernment s demand, by offering quality care at reduced cost. Thus, the bind which should bebased on cooperation is also one of assistance. Butthere was also an opportunity for the NGO toexpand its area of operations, and learn about theinner workings of governments, decision-makingmechanisms and implementation of policies, thus enabling a better dialogue.
