Revista de Administra??o (S?o Paulo) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-21072012000300011
Abstract: this research was based on a study of social enterprises in brazil, to find out if and how these organizations plan and manage the succession process for their senior positions. the study investigated the subset of the associations dedicated to collectively producing goods and services, because they are formally set up and aimed at speeding up the dynamism of local development. the empirical research consisted of two stages. the first was a survey covering a sample of 378 organizations, to find out which of those had already undergone or were undergoing a succession process. the second interviewed the main manager of 32 organizations, to obtain a description of their succession experience. in this stage, the research aimed to analyze how the individual, organization and environment dimensions interact to configure the succession process, identifying which factors of each of these dimensions can facilitate or limit this process. the following guiding elements were taken as the analytical basis: individual dimension - leadership roles, skill and styles; organization dimension - structure, planning, advisory boards, communication (transparency), control and evaluation; and environment dimension - influence of the stakeholders (community, suppliers, clients, and business partners) on the succession process. the results indicated that succession in the researched associations is in the construction stage: it adapts to the requirements of current circumstances but is evidently in need of improvement in order for more effective planning and shared management of the process to be achieved.

Abstract: safflower may be an interesting option for the flower market, either as fresh or dried cut flower. estimating the leaf appearance rate and the phyllochron (the time interval between the appearance of successive leaves) is important for calculating the number of emerged leaves (nl) on the plant, which is an excellent measure of plant development. the objective of this study was to estimate the leaf appearance rate and the phyllochron in safflower (carthamus tinctorius l.). an experiment was conducted in santa maria, rs, brazil, inside an 8 x 15m plastic greenhouse. sowing was on 03 october 2003 and emergence was on 08 october 2003. the experimental design was a randomized complete block design with three replications. the main stem nl was measured twice a week from 24 october 2003 to 15 november 2003 in four plants per replication. daily growing degree days above a base temperature (5°c) and accumulated thermal time (tt) were calculated. the nl was linearly regressed against tt. the angular coefficient of the linear regression is the lar (leaves/ °c day) and the phyllochron (°c days/leaf) was estimated by the inverse of the angular coefficient of the linear regression. the lar was 0.0467 ± 0.0203 leaves/ °c day and the phyllochron was 25.5 ± 14.6°c days/leaf.

GEST?O.Org : Revista Eletr?nica de Gest?o Organizacional , 2010,
Abstract: This article focuses on the alliance between a third sector organization and the government, andthe articulations of the former as strategy in quest of sustainability. The objective was toinvestigate the feasibility of an alliance betweenan NGO and the City Hall, and how this alliance isset within a strategic process. The categories of analysis that led to the empirical study wereguided by the following dimensions: the forms, thenature of relationships and the types of linksamong those involved. The predominant approach wasof descriptive qualitative character. For data collection, the techniques of semi-structured interviews and analysis of documents were adopted. The analysis and interpretation were obtained by means of data triangulation. The results showedthat the NGO under study was able to become closer to the government, by attending part of thegovernment s demand, by offering quality care at reduced cost. Thus, the bind which should bebased on cooperation is also one of assistance. Butthere was also an opportunity for the NGO toexpand its area of operations, and learn about theinner workings of governments, decision-makingmechanisms and implementation of policies, thus enabling a better dialogue.

Abstract: white mold caused by sclerotinia sclerotiorum may severely damage vegetables grown in greenhouses. to develop a biological control program for this pathogen proper antagonists are needed. this work aimed to select efficient fungi antagonists for controlling s. sclerotiorum on cucumber (cucumis sativus) grown in greenhouses, and to evaluate the effect of the antagonist on the growth of the vegetable. an isolate of s. sclerotiorum obtained from cucumber and 112 fungi isolates belonging to four genera were used: trichoderma, fusarium, penicillium, and aspergillus. for the in vitro experiment, the cellophane method was used and eight trichoderma virens isolates were selected that had inhibited the pathogen growth by 94 to 100%. greenhouse experiments used sterilized and non-sterilized substrate in plastic cups and non-sterilized substrate in plastic bags. the substrate was inoculated with s. sclerotiorum and the eight isolates of t. virens were used as antagonists. all eight isolates controlled damping-off of plants caused by s. sclerotiorum, but the effect on cucumber growth varied according to the isolate and the substrate treatment.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to analyze carabid and staphylinid fauna through several faunistic indexes and to obtain the population fluctuation of the dominant species in forest fragment and soybean-corn crop in no-tillage and conventional cropping system. the samplings of the coleopteran were carried out from november/2004 to april/2007, in guaíra, s?o paulo, being biweekly during the crop period and monthly in the off-season crop. for obtaining the samples it was used pitfall traps, distributed in two transects of 200 m long being 100 m in the culture and 100 m in the fragment. the fauna was characterized by indexes of diversity, equitability, and abundance. in no-tillage system the larger number of carabid and staphylinid species and the equitability and diversity indexes indicated that the community of those beetles shows a better structure when compared with the conventional cropping system. among the carabid species abaris basistriatus stood out for having been characterized as dominant in crop and forest fragment of the two experimental areas. the species scarites sp. 4 and a. basistriatus generally presented population peaks when the crop soybean counted less than 30 days of the implantation, the other species presented population peaks that were observed in varied times of the crops. pluvial precipitation was the meteorological variable that obtained the largest number of positive correlations followed by minimum temperature.

Advances in Applied Sociology (AASoci) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/aasoci.2013.31001
Abstract: The sociology of tourism can be considered applied sociology. Therefore, it is necessary to ascertain the up skills of the sociologist in the process of tourism planning. The present paper refers to the idea of philosophic practitioner as a theoretical model and considers the sociologist as a facilitator of local tourism development. To this purpose, I discuss some topics and working tools that can be used when the sociologist is asked to help local stakeholders create significant involvement of the local community. In particular, I propose some self-assessment tools to be included in a tourism process centred on local participation. The paper focuses on fundamental questions concerning the techniques of bottom up regulation and the techniques to facilitate the passage from individualism to collaborative marketing in order to attract visitors suitable to the destination. The discussions are based inductively on tourism economic policies initiated inItalyto create collaboration between local institutions and enterprises aimed at integrating local resources (accommodation structures, transport, gastronomy, art and archaeology, etc.) and creating districts or systems of Made inItalyhospitality. The results indicate the sociologist of tourism as a facilitator of the collaborative partnership in support of the destination management. Many difficulties in creating tourism districts or systems are due to the absence of this type of professional figure.
