Abstract: CASUíSTICA E MéTODOS: Foram analisados, retrospectivamente, 80 transplantes cardíacos realizados no Instituto Dante Pazzanese de Cardiologia (IDPC) no período de novembro de 1991 a agosto de 2000.

Abstract: the papillary fibroelastoma (pfe) is a benign heart tumor, mainly found in the valves. most tumors are asymptomatic, but when present, they are nonspecific or related to embolic phenomena. they are usually diagnosed at routine imaging studies or valve surgery and autopsies. its treatment is controversial, due to its rarity. we describe seven pfe cases diagnosed and treated at our institution between 1989 and 2010, which constitutes the largest national case series study of this pathology to date.
Clínica da atividade e cartografia: construindo metodologias de análise do trabalho
Teixeira, Danielle Vasconcelos;Barros, Maria Elizabeth Barros de;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822009000100010
Abstract: the issues raised in this article were incited by experiences lived in the last years in studies that take as principle that health and work, as scientific research objects, have specificities that can not be considered from exterritoriality positions, regarding the relationship between the researcher and the object being investigated. issues about work can not be based only on analytical views in a distant way of the complexity engendered where work happens. this article proposes a methodological direction of research that articulates research and intervention in a direction to dialogue, to the interchange between different knowledges - disciplinary or not - in order to strengthen strategies used by workers to deal with the variability of work situations. with that purpose, it brings the contribution of the clinic of activity as an important methodological tool.

Abstract: Background: Obesity has reached epidemic patterns and constitutes a serious public health problem due to comorbidities and the impact on life quality of affected individuals. Bariatric surgery appears as one of the most recommended treatments; however much has been known about the effects of this intervention on the functional performance of the organism as a whole. Objective: To characterize the oral health of adults submitted to bariatric surgery, before and after the intervention, with emphasis on the performance of masticatory function. Methods: A prospective observational cohort study conducted in a public reference service to the treatment of obesity in the city of Recife, State of Pernambuco. The data were obtained during the first half of 2011, through interview, intraoral physical examination and evaluation of masticatory function. Statistical treatment adopted was a CI of 95% and the chi-square test. The collection was conducted in three stages, with initial assessment in the preoperative and follow-up at 60 and 180 days. Results: The sample consisted of 20 volunteers, aged between 23 and 58 years and mean BMI of 43.2 ± 2.8. When compared the pre-operative to the control periods, there were significant differences for variables with decreased tendency towards spontaneous gingival bleeding and increased tooth hypersensitivity and tooth mobility (p < 0.05). Regarding the masticatory function, we found significant differences for most of the variables investigated, except in the coordination of movements and breathing during this function. Conclusion: The performance of masticatory function shows differences in pre- and postoperative periods for bariatric surgery.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of oral functions and oral conditions in children and adolescents with overweight or obesity, investigating possible associations with treatment for weight reduction. Developing a cross-sectional research and quantitative approach with inductive and descriptive and critical analysis of data, such as from a range of 95%, the universe was represented by children and adolescents who were overweight or obese, in both sexes, treated at reference centers for the treatment of obesity by the National Health System, in Campina Grande, Paraíba, 2010-2012. As the control group considered subjects of the same age, in the process of screening for attention in the places listed, but without the condition of overweight or obese, the research was started after the approval by the Ethics Resarch Committee of the UEPB under the protocol number 0513.0.133.000-09. As instruments for data collection were used in the questionnaire and clinical examination, of the 70 surveyed, most were female, ranging in age from 3 to 17 years, overweight, without comorbidities and carriers of deleterious oral habits; especially the nail biting, significantly associated with female sex p < 0.05. Consistency was the preferred food paste and chewing quickly, unilaterally, without discomfort or gagging constant. There was a significant difference between the values of the DMFT index, the presence of visible biofilm and the frequency of halitosis, for groups with overweight or obesity, with association between time of treatment and medications.
