Abstract: This work aimed to determine the effect of stocking density on the biomass production, final weight, feed conversion and survival rate of Pseudoplatystoma spp. surubim reared in floating net cages under three initial stocking densities. Twelve floating net cages located in a 47-ha reservoir were stocked with 35, 70 and 105 fish/m3 averaging 50 g from April to August 1999. At the end of the experimental period (105 days), the final average weights of the treatments were 197.4, 171.15, and 161.45 g, respectively. The highest final mean weight was reached at the lowest initial density. No significant effects of initial stocking density were observed on survival (95.97, 97.80 and 96.73%, respectively) and feed conversion rates (1.49; 1.60 e 1.56; respectively). The final biomass of 87.93, 157.67, and 220.46 kg were affected by the initial stocking density. At higher storage densities, the individual weight gain decreased, but the final biomass increased significantly.

Abstract: The parameters of carcass trait of alive surubim (Pseudoplatystoma spp.) evaluated by ultrasound were estimated in this trial. A total of 34 fish was divided into two groups according to average body weight: group 1 = 2.7 kg e group 2 = 1.5 kg. The fish were measured for total, head and standard lengths. Ultrasound images of four defined points were obtained: 1 - anterior insertion of dorsal fin; 2 - posterior insertion of dorsal fin; 3 - anterior insertion of fat fin and 4 - insertion of caudal fin. After, weights of carcass, head, shank fillet and belly fillet were obtained. Correlations of measures obtained by the ultrasound images with carcass yield traits were determined. The point 3 showed the best correlations for yield of group 1 with: carcass (0.91), head (0.86), shank fillet (0.87) and belly fillet (0.91). Carcass yield of group 1 was higher (70.9%) than group 2 (66.9%), probably due to the highest head weight of these animals. The best equations for carcass yield and fillet weight were the ones that considered the measures of point 3 and total length, respectively. Ultrasound for evaluation of carcass traits in alive surubim is a reliable technique, once it can maintains reproducers with great performance inside stock.

Abstract: In order to evaluate the potential of seaweed meal (Lithothamnium sp) in the nutrition of rabbits it were realized analysis of the presence of trace elements in the composition of Lithothamnium, a performance test with determination of apparent digestibility coefficients for dry matter, protein and energy and morphometric analysis of the ileal villi of rabbits fed with diets at different levels of inclusion (0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75% and 1.00%). We used 60 New Zealand White rabbits of both sexes, at 30 days of age.The experimental diets were isonitrogenous and isocaloric, a control and the other with the different levels of inclusion of Lithothamnium sp. to replace the inert (bentonite) from the control diet ad libitum. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five treatments and twelve repetitions. The variables were subjected to analysis of variance and regression analysis model with pre-defined by the statistical program SAEG. The results showed that the inclusion of Lithothamnium sp. in different concentrations did not interfere in the variables studied: intake, digestibility coefficients of dry matter, protein and energy, weight gain, carcass yield and weight of edible offal. However, it was verified that the level of inclusion of 1.0% interfere in a negative way in the length and width of villi.

Abstract: Massive production, such as fish growing in water recirculation system, imposes challenges to animals capable of altering their homeostatic balance, and is able to affect their physiological performance. Therefore, the levels of ions and serum enzymes can be used as indicators of fish health. This study aimed to analyze the blood biochemistry profile of hybrid surubim (P. reticulatum X P. corruscans) submitted to different stocking densities in water recirculation system, in two distinct stages of production, from 150 to 400 g (first trial), and 400 to 1000 g (second trial). In the first trial, the five stocking rates were: 27.5, 47.5, 67.5, 87.5 and 107.5 fish/m3 of water. To obtain these densities, it was used 11, 19, 27, 35 and 43 fish per tank, respectively. In the second trial, five stocking rates were: 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 fish/m3 of water. To obtain these densities we used 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 fish per tank, respectively. The concentrations of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, urea, creatinine, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium were obtained. Only urea concentrations in first trial and ALP and AST concentrations in second trial were influenced by stocking density, presenting a significant difference between groups. Thus, in both trials the hybrid fish studied maintained homeostasis when reared in different stocking densities.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of tambacu vitamin e dietary supplementation on performance and hematological variables, and determine the relationship of glutathione peroxidase activity with vitamin e and selenium suplementation. two hundred and fifty juvenile tambacus were used, divided into 25 aquaria. the basal diet was pelleted with 32% of crude protein and 3,300 kcal kg-1 of digestible energy, with 0.40 mg kg-1 se. test diets - isoproteic and isocaloric - were composed of the basal diet with increasing vitamin e concentrations (0, 100, 200, 300, 400 mg kg-1), in a completely randomized design, with five treatments and five replications. no significant effect of vitamin e supplementation was observed on total length, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration and total erythrocyte, and on the enzymatic activity of glutathione peroxidase. however, final weight and apparent feed conversion were significantly affected by supplemented treatments. standard length and weight gain improved using diets supplemented with 400 mg kg-1 of vitamin e. dietary vitamin e supplementation results in better tambacu performance.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of diet crude protein on the performance and stress resistance rate (re) of oreochromis niloticus larvae and fingerlings. in the first experiment, 5, 15 and 25 day-old animals were submitted to 1, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 minutes of air exposure on a sieve. in the second experiment, tilapia larvae were fed with 32, 40 and 55% crude protein (cp) diets. animals after 15 and 30 days of feeding (21 and 36 days of life, respectively) were submitted to the air exposure test for 7 and 10 minutes. re was estimated based on survival 24 hours after the tests. in the first experiment, it was observed that 5-day-old animals were more resistant than animals with 10 and 20 days of feeding (15 and 25 days of life, respectively), when re starts to decrease for longer than 7 minutes. in the second experiment, the different diets affected survival, performance and re, and, in general, the worst results observed were the ones for the animals which received the 55% cp diet. the air exposure tests were efficient to evaluate the effect of diet on the resistance rate of nile tilapia.

Abstract: the study of figueiredo e ziegelmann (2007) showed that in brazil there was a gain in welfare related to increasing of income mobility. however, this results did not consider one of the side effects related to this phenomenon: the increase of uncertainty associated to the behavior of consumption. according to this approach, this study questions how desirable is the income mobility in brazil. it was used an index that separates the negative and positive effects related to mobility. the results showed, considering a coefficient of risk aversion, that an increase of income mobility will have positive effects only if the inequality parameter is superior to 2.95.

Abstract: this paper firstly aims at showing the usefulness of cfg and fcfg in the study of formal syntax. applying parsers based on these formalisms on the analysis of a corpus may reveal consequences from an approach which would otherwise pass by unnoticed. the natural language toolkit (nltk) comprises, among other facilities, generator tools for parsers in a variety of architectures. however, the non-trivial use of this library in automatic syntactic processing requires programming skills. in order to allow non-programmers access to parser implementation and testing, we developed donatus, a user-friendly graphical interface to nltk's parsing facilities with additional utilities that make it also useful to programmers. we explain the tool's functioning and demonstrate its relevance to formal syntactical investigation by means of a comparison between the computer implementations of two alternative approaches to adjectival modification in portuguese. the first approach, based on traditional x-bar theory, generated a great number of false ambiguities. this problem was avoided by a parser based on an approach within the minimalist program. without resorting to the computer, this difference between the two approaches would not be easily revealed.
Mobilidade intrageracional de renda no Brasil
Figueiredo, Erik Alencar de;
Nova Economia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-63512010000300002
Abstract: the purpose of this study is to measure intragenerational income mobility in brazil and its several population subgroups within the period 1995-2005. to this end, the mobility axiomatic approach and dynamic instruments proposed by aebi et al. (1999) are considered. calculations of mobility indexes and the markov transaction matrix indicate that brazil presents low intragenerational income mobility, suggesting that its social structure is relatively rigid. also, important heterogeneities within each subgroup were observed, thus corroborating the intergenerational results indicated by ferreira and veloso (2006).
