Abstract: foodborne diseases have been deserving special attention by researchers of the whole world. viral etiology outbreaks of foodborne diseases have been improperly treated as less important than bacterial ones. rotavirus is the most reported cause of gastroenteritis and accounts for thousands of deaths annually. the present work reports a rotavirus-induced disease outbreak in a commercial establishment, where 51 employees related symptoms like diarrhea, vomits, nausea. water, food and beverages were analyzed microbiologically. no pathogenical bacterial contamination were detected, neither any modification on sensorial characteristics. according to the "attributable risk" of each food involved, bread and butter was considered suspicious food, and epidemiological approach pointed to the fact that the employee responsible for preparing this food was rotaviruses sicked just before the outbreak spreading.
Capacity of DNA Data Embedding Under Substitution Mutations
Félix Balado
Mathematics , 2011, DOI: 10.1109/TIT.2012.2219495
Abstract: A number of methods have been proposed over the last decade for encoding information using deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), giving rise to the emerging area of DNA data embedding. Since a DNA sequence is conceptually equivalent to a sequence of quaternary symbols (bases), DNA data embedding (diversely called DNA watermarking or DNA steganography) can be seen as a digital communications problem where channel errors are tantamount to mutations of DNA bases. Depending on the use of coding or noncoding DNA hosts, which, respectively, denote DNA segments that can or cannot be translated into proteins, DNA data embedding is essentially a problem of communications with or without side information at the encoder. In this paper the Shannon capacity of DNA data embedding is obtained for the case in which DNA sequences are subject to substitution mutations modelled using the Kimura model from molecular evolution studies. Inferences are also drawn with respect to the biological implications of some of the results presented.
Optimum Perfect Universal Steganography of Finite Memoryless Sources
Félix Balado,David Haughton
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: A theoretical analysis and a practical solution to the fundamental problem of optimum perfect universal steganography of finite memoryless sources with a passive warden are provided. The theoretical analysis rests on the fact that Slepian's Variant I permutation coding implements first-order perfect universal steganography with maximum embedding rate. The practical solution underlines the duality between perfect steganography with optimum embedding rate and lossless source coding with optimum compression rate, since it is shown that permutation coding can be implemented by means of adaptive arithmetic coding. A distance constraint between host signal and information-carrying signal must be observed in universal steganography, and thus an optimum tradeoff between embedding rate and embedding distortion must be achieved. Partitioned permutation coding is shown to be the solution to this problem. A practical implementation of partitioned permutation coding is given that performs close to an unattainable upper bound on the rate-distortion function of the problem.

Abstract: the following essay raises the premise that in every literary study there is the question of value, one way or another. from that point, and focusing in the criticism and some problems that are attached to it, it is developed a brief panoramic view on the subject of judgment and "literary value", beginning from some precepts found in new criticism, and passing, among others, through some reflections of wayne booth until arriving to harold bloom, examining and tensioning his concept of canon.

Abstract: this paper analyzes a pioneering novel in the literary tradition of the colombian caribbean: ingermina, published by juan josé nieto during his exile to jamaica in 1844, and practically forgotten for a century and a half, until it was reedited in 1998. ingermina tells of the conquest of the kingdom of calamar and its conversion into the colonial cartagena of the new granada. the text revolves around the love between an indian woman and a spanish colonist. in contrast to other stories (such as the mexican malinche, iracema in brazil, etc.), nieto's novel offers a notably diverse view of the indigenous population, which is divided between radical and moderate anti-colonialists. my article analyzes the subsumption made by nieto, of a political antagonism under a moral antagonism. firmly planted within the context of colombia in the 19th century, i refer this subsumption to the limits of nieto's liberalism, one of the most radical of his time.

The Construction of Cannon and the Matter of Lierary Value
Idelber Avelar
Aisthesis , 2009,
The following essay raises the premise that in every literary study there is the question of value, one way or another.
