Kaspar Schott’s “encyclopedia of all mathematical sciences”
Eberhard Knobloch
Poiesis & Praxis , 2011, DOI: 10.1007/s10202-011-0090-1
Exotic mesons: status and future
Klempt, Eberhard
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2007,
Abstract: The evidence for the existence of mesons with exotic quantum numbers and of hybrid candidates with non-exotic quantum numbers is critically reviewed, including candidates with hidden charm. Aims and methods of future searches for hybrid mesons are briefly discussed.
SCOTLAND AND EUROPE, OR: ROOM AT THE TOP FOR 'CONSTITUTIONAL REGIONS'?
Eberhard Bort
Romanian Journal of European Affairs (RJEA) , 2004,
Abstract: Scotland, it is sometimes said, is more Euro-friendly than the rest of Britain. And, yes, some opinion polls would support that. Scotland is slightly more favourably disposed towards the Euro. And outright Euro-scepticism is not as thick on the ground as in the southern parts of England. But the differences are pretty marginal. Scotland's love for Europe might be more fiction than fact. And yet, as is often the case with myths, it is an important factor in Scottish politics. But the real issue for Scotland and Europe in the immediate future is its representation and participation in the governance of the European Union. With devolution in the UK, Scotland – with its own Parliament and Executive – has been firmly put on the political map of Europe. Together with similarly powered 'regions', Scotland's Parliament and Executive are making their case for an input of the 'third level' into a multi-level system of European governance. Is there room at the top for Scotland and the 'constitutional regions' of Europe? The answer to this question may play a significant role in determining Scotland's future: either as an integrated part of both the UK and Europe, or as an 'independent' state in the European Union.
ON THE THRESHOLD OF INDEPENDENCE? SCOTLAND ONE YEAR AFTER THE SNP ELECTION VICTORY
Eberhard Bort
Romanian Journal of European Affairs (RJEA) , 2008,
Abstract: In 2007, marking both the tercentenary of the Anglo-Scottish Union and the tenth anniversary of the successful Devolution Referendum, the May elections caused a political earthquake, breaking the nearly five decades of hegemony of Scottish Labour at the national and, even more emphatically, at the local government level and ushering in an SNP (Scottish National Party) minority government at Holyrood. Was this the proof that devolution did not, as George Robertson had claimed, ‘kill Nationalism stone dead’, proof that it was, rather, a stepping stone, or a ‘staging post’? If the latter, where to? Just underlining that devolution, pace Ron Davies, was a process rather than an event, part of what Henry McLeish calls the ‘evolution of devolution’? Towards greater autonomy or towards regaining Scottish independence as a sovereign nation-state?
Conservative approaches to the management of voice disorders
Kruse, Eberhard
GMS Current Topics in Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery , 2005,
Abstract: The presence of a voice disorder not only affects social interaction but potentially also has a major impact on the work environment. The latter is becoming more important given the increasing demands employers make in terms of competency in both communication skills and adequacy of phonation. The development of newer and more precise phono-microsurgical techniques for the treatment of an increasing variety of voice disorders has not entirely replaced a conservative approach to voice rehabilitation. Nevertheless, conservative methods have to demonstrate an higher effectiveness in comparison with the microsurgical intervention given the alternative indications. This would be especially true for the more specific and systematically a given individual glottic pathophysiology could be changed in direction of individual phonatory physiology or supplementary phonation mechanism. This desired changing depends not only on the theoretical concepts but also on maintaining strict therapeutic principles during their clinical application. Conservative management of voice disorders has to be intensive and comprehensive, especially in the case of accepting our model of Larnygeal Double Phonation Function and the existence of a phonatory feedback loop.
Eberhard Knobloch
HiN. Alexander von Humboldt im Netz , 2006,
Abstract: Article in German, Abstracts in English and German. In a similar way as Adalbert Stifter's narrator in the novel “Late summer” A. v. Humboldt combined exploration with research, fondness for travelling with striving for findings during his travel through South America. Humboldt clearly indicated his double aim: to report on the visited countries, to collect facts in order to improve physical geography. The treatise consists of five sections: object, route, methods, results, evaluation.
