Perinatología y reproducción humana , 2004,
Abstract: objective: to measure the epds by determining the cutting-point which will determine the best equilibrium between sensibility and specificity on two to three months pregnancy patients at the instituto nacional de perinatología (inper). material and methods: an investigation was held at the inper, on 264 external patients -with a 13 to 40 weeks pregnancy range- who freely accepted to participate after being fully informed of the scope of the research. epds and eamd tests were given to them. the data was analyzed by means of the descriptive and inference statistics using the spss 10 statistics package. results: sensibility values of .74 and specificity values of .83 were obtained for an equal or higher 14 points score, which is the best equilibrium between sensibility and specificity. the .8454 score reliability obtained by cronbach alpha was similar to the scores obtained during previous research. taking into account the14 cutting-point on the epds and the 44 on the eamd, a "probable perinatal depression" prevails on patients at the institute. conclusions: the epds scale proved to be a reliable and valid detection instrument for "probable perinatal depression" on patients with a 13 to 40 pregnancy range. with reference to previous research, the cutting-point is increased by 2 to 3 points and so is the prevalence in relation to any type of population. the early detection of a probable depressive episode, allows relevant warnings, thus avoiding future complications.

Abstract: Physical function declines in efficiency with advancing age, contributing to disability. Furthermore, metabolic syndrome is a common illness in elderly populations, somatotayping is a technique for description of the physique and can establish a relation with performance and pathology. The aim of this work was to compare the agility, dynamic balance in elderly women with endomorphic mesomorph somatotype with presence or absence of metabolic syndrome. A sample of 18 volunteers was obtained (age 66.5±4.7 years old), all were elderly sedentary women. They were assessed whit anthropometric variables in accordance with ISAK protocol in order to determine Heath & Carter somatotype; presence of metabolic syndrome they were evaluated according with the NCEP ATP-III, the agility and dynamic balance was assessed with the functional test Time Up and Go (TUGT). Mean of somatotype in subjects with absence or presence of metabolic syndrome was 6.2-7.9-0.2 and 6.5-8.7-0.1 respectively; Shapiro-Wilk test checked the normality of the distribution in the functional test Time Up and Go, in the group with absence or presence of metabolic syndrome, based on its normality distribution for the intergroup comparison, the Student t test was applied, the significance level, utilized was 95% (P , 0.05) for the sample assessed without metabolic syndrome, the execution time of the functional test TUGT was better in spite of the same somatotype intergroup. The pathological components of metabolic syndrome can be related whit dysfunctional mobility in elderly women.

Abstract: gyneco-obstetric hospitalized patients usually present secondary emotional reactions to hospitalization, pregnancy and their illnesses. these reactions may or may not anchor to character structure, showing clinical data that not necessarily are to be considered as pathological manifestations. within the range of reactions, it is possible to identify the psychological discomfort, which is erected as a diagnosis that is characterized by its reactivity, rapid evolution, egodistonia and good prognosis. in this sense it is an alteration of the emotional condition and not properly a psychopathology. in this work, the clinical manifestations and its habitual evolution are expounded with the intention to differentiate them from the simthomatology and diverse character and personality disorders as well as proper pregnancy manifestations. although it is a coping process it should be evaluated and cared for by a mental health professional. its evaluation requires diverse strategies and its attention, specific techniques that flavor conflict solution with reality and work as prophylactic of a secondary and psiquic conflict, and also in the attention of gyneco-obstetric and hospital complications.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a hydrogymnastics training program on highsensitivity C-reactive protein in elderly women. The subjects were randomly divided into the experimental group who participates in the hydrogymnastics training program and the control group who was not involved in the training and remained sedentary. The serum levels of highsensitivity C-reactive protein were determined by immunoturbidimetry using C-reactive protein (CRP), the training protocol consisted of hydrogymnastics sessions 5 times per week during 12 weeks of intervention, executed in a pool of 1.3 meters divided into three phases: a 10-minute warm-up, 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at 50%-60% of maximum heart rate (monitored by heart rate monitor) and a 10-minute cool down. As a statistical method to compare the results between groups of variables pre and post training, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) mixed 2 × 2 (group × measurement) test was done using SPSS version 17. The founds showed significant changes in the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and a greater percentage decrease of hs-CRP (Δ%= -37%, p = 0.001) in the experimental group in relation to the control group. Therefore, it can be inferred that a hydrogymnastics program is effective in reducing the metabolic rate of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein amongst elderly women.

Stability of rotating spherical stellar systems
Andres Meza
Physics , 2002, DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361:20021268
Abstract: The stability of rotating isotropic spherical stellar systems is investigated by using N-body simulations. Four spherical models with realistic density profiles are studied: one of them fits the luminosity profile of globular clusters, while the remaining three models provide good approximations to the surface brightness of elliptical galaxies. The phase-space distribution function f(E) of each one of these non-rotating models satisfies the sufficient condition for stability df/dE < 0. Different amounts of rotation are introduced in these models by changing the sign of the z-component of the angular momentum for a given fraction of the particles. Numerical simulations show that all these rotating models are stable to both radial and non-radial perturbations, irrespective of their degree of rotation. These results suggest that rotating isotropic spherical models with realistic density profiles might generally be stable. Furthermore, they show that spherical stellar systems can rotate very rapidly without becoming oblate.
