Scientia Agricola , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90161995000200004
Abstract: a comparative study was carried out on chemical, physical and mineralogical characteristics of dusky red latosols originated from the weathering of alcaline (lre) and basic eruptive rocks (lrd), of the jaboticabal country brazil the results showed that the lre presented a younger development stage than lrd, while this soil showed a tendency to maturity. this trend was corraborated through the lower clay and total fe2o3, contents and higher base saturation contents, si2o/al2o3 molecular ratio (ki) and clay f ration cec presented by lre. it can be concluded that the occurrence of eutrophic dusky red latosols hi the unesp-jaboticabal campus may be due to the influence of alcaline rocks.
Miniature as a hypothetical regulatory protein of the Bursicon/Rickets signaling cascade in the wing epithelia of Drosophila melanogaster

Biopolymers and Cell , 2012,
Abstract: Soon after eclosion, epithelial cells of the Drosophila wing undergo a number of the processes due to a release of the neurohormone bursicon and its further binding to the GPCR Rickets, collectively referred to as wing maturation. Here we propose hypothetical models of the interaction between extracellular Miniature, and also Dusky, proteins and proteins responsible for triggering of the wing maturation processes in Drosophila melanogaster.

Pakistan Veterinary Journal , 2011,
Abstract: Describing of the various reproductive characteristics of the dusky grouper (Epinephelus guaza) is a protogynous hermaphrodite fish that fallows a monandric pathway to sexual development. The samples (n=104) were collected during a year by spear-fishing. Their 13 developmental stages of reproduction were determined. The first step was named as juvenile; the gonads of the fish were ovo-testes in which the sexual cells were not localized due to immaturities. The female characters started to begin after the juvenile form. All the fishes had different six female stages (F1 to F6) according to gonadal ripening. The first sexual maturity of the females was observed in F3 stage which they were I+ - III years old and 39.1cm (LS). Tree transitional periods (T1, T2, T3,) were seen beyond of the female period (IV -VI years old). Intersexual periods were followed by testicular phases, the fishes underwent to male sex which include tree stages (M1, M2, M3,). The first sexual maturity of the males (M2; VII-VIII years old) was started at 83.5cm (LS). However the gonado-somatic index (GSI) is most common used index for the fish. According to data; GSI were peaked in July and September in female while they were peaked in May and July in male as per cent. Furthermore, mating time was started in May according to the data of GSI and IRG, so it was means that data were parallel to both of them in the present study.

Abstract: with the objective of estimating the soil basic infiltration velocity (biv), a study was conducted to evaluate the degree of association between biv and other physical properties of the superficial and subsuperficial layers of a dusky-red latosol (oxisol) and of a red-yellow podzolic soil (ultisol), both located at the campus of the universidade federal de lavras, minas gerais state, brazil. the sampling was performed with systematic spacing and the points constituted a grid, with variable spacing. at each sampling point, the value of the basic infiltration velocity was determined and thereafter undisturbed and disturbed samples at 0-20 and 60-80 cm of depth were collected. with these samples, the particle-size distribution, bulk density, particle density, total volume of pores, macroporosity, microporosity and hydraulic conductivity of saturated soil were determined. statistical analysis of correlation and regression showed that the physical properties of the 0-20 cm layer in the dusky-red latosol and of the 60-80 cm layer in the red-yellow podzolic soil were better associated with the biv. both hydraulic conductivity of saturated soil and bulk density were adequate for estimating the biv of these soils.

Near-shore distribution of Heaviside’s (Cephalorhynchus heavisidii) and dusky dolphins(Lagenorhynchus obscurus) at the southern limit of their range in South Africa

African Zoology , 2011,
Abstract: Photo-identification surveys over three years along 390 km of coastline north of Cape Town, revealed that Heaviside’s dolphin distribution was consistent between years and higher in areas more exposed to swells and with greater long-term availability of small hake Merluccius capensis (their principal prey). Dusky dolphin sighting rates varied considerably between years, but were generally higher in areas with lower hake availability and sandier shores (mostly straighter coastline). Large groups of 50–200 dusky dolphins were only seen in St Helena Bay, the site of a wind-driven upwelling zone. Heaviside’s dolphins were found in shallower, cooler water than dusky dolphins and were more likely to be seen during brighter phases of the moon (when nocturnal light conditions may influence the vertical migration patterns of prey) and in areas of high hake abundance. Near-shore fishing activity was higher in the northern half of the study area and clustered around harbours. Set netting occurred only at Yzerfontein and St Helena Bay, but due to changes in the industry is currently thought to be a low threat to the population. Interactions between Heaviside’s and dusky dolphins were usually neutral and sympatry appears to be mediated by differences in overall range and the type and size of prey species taken.
