Palma Forrageira (Opuntia ficus indica Mill) em Substitui o à Silagem de Sorgo (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) na Alimenta o de Vacas Leiteiras

Abstract: O experimento foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho de vacas da ra a Holandesa em lacta o, alimentadas com ra es contendo diferentes níveis (0, 12, 24 e 36%) de palma forrageira (Opuntia ficus indica Mill) em substitui o à silagem de sorgo (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench). Foram utilizadas oito vacas distribuídas em dois quadrados latinos (4x4). Cada período experimental teve dura o de 21 dias, sendo 14 destinados à adapta o dos animais às ra es e sete para coleta. Os consumos de matéria seca (MS), em kg/dia, % de PV e em rela o ao peso metabólico (g/kg0,75), e matéria organica e carboidratos totais, expressos em kg/dia, n o foram influenciados pela adi o de palma na ra o, apresentando valores médios de 20,18; 3,41; 167,80; 18,86; e 14,85, respectivamente. O consumo de carboidratos n o-fibrosos, em kg/dia, aumentou, e os de fibra em detergente neutro, em kg/dia e % de PV, fibra em detergente ácido; proteína bruta e extrato etéreo, expressos em kg/dia, diminuíram linearmente com a inclus o de palma na ra o. O consumo de sódio n o foi influenciado pela adi o de palma na ra o, com valor médio de 29,45g/dia. Os consumos de potássio e magnésio aumentaram e o de fósforo diminuiu linearmente com a adi o de palma na ra o. N o houve efeito da inclus o de palma sobre a produ o de leite com e sem corre o para 3,5% de gordura, cujos valores médios foram de 25,01 e 26,97kg/dia, respectivamente. O teor de gordura do leite foi influenciado de forma quadrática, sendo o teor máximo estimado em 4,08%, com 20,51% de palma na ra o. A convers o alimentar aumentou linearmente com a inclus o de palma.

Abstract: Foi avaliado o efeito de quatro níveis (0, 12, 24 e 36%) de palma forrageira em substitui o à silagem de sorgo, na ra o de vacas da ra a holandesa em lacta o, sobre a digestibilidade aparente da matéria seca (DAMS), da matéria organica (DAMO), da proteína bruta (DAPB), do extrato etéreo (DAEE), da fibra em detergente neutro (DAFDN), da fibra em detergente ácido (DAFDA), dos carboidratos totais (DACHT) e dos carboidratos n o-fibrosos (DACNF), o teor de nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT) e os coeficientes de absor o aparente de cálcio (Ca), fósforo (P), potássio (K) e sódio (Na). Foram utilizadas oito vacas, com peso médio de 590 kg e produ o média de leite de 27 kg/dia, distribuídas em dois quadrados latinos simultaneos (4x4), sendo quatro animais, quatro períodos e quatro níveis de inclus o de palma na ra o. A inclus o de palma forrageira na dieta influenciou a digestibilidade aparente de todos os nutrientes, sendo descrito por fun o quadrática. Foi possível estimar por intermédio desta fun o um teor máximo de NDT de 77,43% para utiliza o de 16,51% de palma na dieta. O aumento nos teores de CNF e a redu o da FDN das ra es foram responsáveis pelo comportamento quadrático na digestibilidade dos nutrientes. As absor es aparentes de Ca, P e Na foram influenciadas quadraticamente com o aumento dos níveis de palma na ra o, enquanto o K aumentou linearmente. A rela o Ca:P que proporcionou a melhor absor o desses elementos minerais foi de 1,9:1.
Body composition and net protein and energy requirements for weight gain of crossbred dairy cattle in grazing

Abstract: the body composition and net protein and energy requirements for weight gain of 5/8 hostein-zebu crossbred cattle raised in brachiaria decumbens spaft pasture were evaluated. in total, 16 bulls with 10 months of age and body weight (bw) of 180 ± 19.95 kg were used. the animals were kept with free access to pasture or with restricted grazing (from 6 to 10 h). four animals were slaughtered at the beginning of the experimental period to estimate the empty body weight (ebw) and the initial body composition of the remaining animals. the other animals were slaughtered at the end of the 84-day trial period. the logarithm equations of the protein and energy body content were adjusted according to the logarithm of the empty body weight ebw. from these equations, the net protein and energy requirements for weight gain were estimated. there was an increase in fat (from 37.17 to 59.08 g/kg ebw) and energy (from 1.68 to 1.94 mcal/kg ebw) concentrations, with increase in body weight from 150 to 250 kg. the protein and energy requirements for gaining 1 kg of ebw increased with the increase in body weight or empty body weight. the relationship between fat concentration in gain and protein requirements also increased, indicating that as the bw or ebw increase, more fat deposition in the gain is observed.

Abstract: in order to evaluate different levels of sugar cane bagasse and urea as replacement of soybean meal in growing dairy cattle diets, two trials were conducted. in the first, twenty crossbreed bull calves (holstein x zebu) were allotted in a completely randomized design with four treatments. the animals were fed forage cactus based diets, containing levels of 5.5, 14.4, 24.4 and 34% of sugar cane bagasse on the dry matter basis. the liveweight gain decreased while the feed: gain ratio, fdn and fda intakes increased linearly in function of the increased level of sugar cane bagasse. the maximum daily dry matter intake of 2.73% of lw was estimated with 30% of sugar cane bagasse in the diet. in the second, was evaluated the partial replacement of soybean meal (sm) by urea plus corn cracked (uc) in forage cactus based diets on the crossbreed (holstein x zebu) heifers performance. twenty animals were fed diets containing four levels (0, 20, 40 and 60%) of replacement of sm by uc. there was no significant effect of partial replacement of soybean meal by urea plus corn cracked on crossbreed heifers performance.

Abstract: the intakes of dry matter (idm), metabolizable energy (ime), ether extract (iee), crude protein (icp), neutral detergent fiber (indf), acid detergent fiber (iadf) and organic matter (iom) and the daily weight gain (wg), in kg/day, and feed conversion (fc) were determined to evaluate the effect of three dietary energy levels, for sheep. eighteen santa inês sheep (averaging live weight of 20 kg six months old) were full fed diets with 2.42, 2.66 and 2.83 mcal of metabolizable energy (me)/kg of dry matter (dm). a randomized block design, with six replicates, was used. idm, in kg/day, %lw, g/kg0.75, showed no effect, as the dietary energy levels increased, with average of 0.88 kg, 3.33% and 75.52 g, respectively. indf and iadf showed linear decreasing effect, as the dietary energy levels increased. iee and ime increased linearly, as the dietary energy levels increased. there was no significant effect for icp, as the dietary energy levels increased. dietary energy levels did not influence weight gain and feed conversion, that were of 0.123, 0.137, and 0.191 kg and 9.6, 8.4, and 7.0, respectively.
Morphometry and carcass characteristics of goats submitted to grazing in the Caatinga

Abstract: the objective of this study was to evaluate morphometric measures, carcass yields, absolute weights and yields of commercial cuts of carcass of kids with no defined breed. eighteen castrated male goats, with average weight of 15 kg were used. the experimental period lasted 105 days. the experimental design was completely randomized; animals were allocated to three treatments: free grazing without supplementation; restricted grazing without supplementation and free grazing with supplementation. animals were supplemented (1% of body weight) with forage cactus (opuntia ficus - indica, mill) and soybean meal (glycine max). the feeding consisted of continuous grazing on caatinga. supplemented animals had higher live slaughter weight and body score, and consequently higher morphometric measures in vivo and in carcasses. the supplementation provided carcasses with higher body weight and body score. for yields of carcass, there was no difference between treatments restricted grazing and grazing with supplementation; supplementation provided carcasses with higher yields. supplemented animals had higher absolute weights for commercial cuts. supplementation of grazing goats raised in the caatinga provides animals with higher body weight at slaughter, greater morphometric measures in vivo and in carcass and better body conformation. therefore, for supplementation, the level used in this experiment is a good alternative in the creation of small ruminants during the dry period in the semi-arid region.

Abstract: the experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of lactating holstein cows fed diet with different replacement levels (0, 12, 24 and 36%) of forage cactus (opuntia ficus indica mill) for sorghum silage (sorghum bicolor (l.) moench). eight cows were assigned to a two 4x4 latin square design. each experimental period lasted 21 days, 14 days for adaptation and 7 days for data collection. the intakes of dry matter (dm) in kg/day, % of live weight (lw) and g/kg0,75, organic matter and total carbohydrates in kg/day, were not affected by the forage cactus levels (20.18, 3.41, 167.80, 18.86, and 14.85, respectively). the nonfiber carbohydrates (kg/day) intake increased and the intakes of neutral detergent fiber (kg/day and % of lw), acid detergent fiber, crude protein and ether extract (kg/day) linearly decreased as the forage cactus levels increased. the sodium intake was not affected by the inclusion of forage cactus, with average value of 29.45g/day. the potassium and magnesium intake increased and phosphorus intake linearly decreased. the milk production and fat corrected milk was not affected by the forage cactus levels (25.01 and 26.97 kg/day, respectively). there was a quadratic effect of levels of forage cactus on the milk fat concentration, with maximum milk fat of 4.08% with 20.51% of forage cactus. feed:milk production ratio linearly decreased as the forage cactus levels increased.

Abstract: it was evaluated the effect of four levels forage cactus in replacement of sorghum silage, in diets of lactating holstein cows, on the apparent digestibility of dry matter (addm), organic matter (adom), crude protein (adcp), ether extract (adee), neutral detergent fiber (adndf) and acid (adadf), total carbohydrates (adtch) and nonfiber carbohydrates (adnfc), content of total digestible nutrients (tdn) and apparent absorption of calcium (ca), phosphorus (p), potassium (k) and sodium (na). eight holstein cows averaging 590 kg and producing 27 kg of milk/day were used in a 4x4 latin square design with four animals, four periods and four levels of forage cactus inclusion. all nutrients apparent digestibility showed significant quadratic response with increasing cactus in diets. significant quadratic responses of apparent digestibility would likely attributed to increase in amounts nfc, decrease ndf and adf in diets. the apparent absorption for ca, p and na also showed significant quadratic response. however, k had linear increase. the ca:p ratio that provided better apparent absorption for the two mineral elements was 1.9:1.

Abstract: the objective was to evaluate the body composition and net requirements of the macro minerals calcium (ca), phosphorus (p), magnesium (mg) and potassium (k) for weight gain in 5/8 crossbreed holstein-zebu cattle maintained in pasture brachiaria decumbens stapf. sixteen animals were used with 10 month of age and 180 ± 19.95 kg bw. the treatments were open access to pasture and restricted grazing, both supplemented with commercial mineral salt. four animals slaughtered in the beginning of the experiment to serve as reference for the estimation of empty body weight (ebwi) and initial body composition of the remaining animals. the others animals were slaughtered at 84 days of the experimental period. regressions equation of the logarithm of ca, p, mg, and k of body content were fitted in function of the logarithm of ebw for each treatment. by deriving these equations ca, p, mg, k liquid requirements for gain for 1 kg ebw (gebw) were estimated. the estimated macro minerals net requirements (ca, p, k, mg) decreased as body weight increased. the net ca, p, k and mg requirements differed from the british and american nutritional requirements systems.

Abstract: the coefficients of apparent digestibility of dry matter (caddm), organic matter (cadom), crude protein (cadcp), ether extract (cadee), total carbohydrates (cadtcho), nonfiber carbohydrates (cadnfc), neutral detergent fiber (cadndf) and acid detergent fiber (cadadf) were determined to evaluate the effect of the increasing dietary energy levels. the estimate of the apparent digestibility of the nutrients, using the method of fecal total collection, and the estimate of fecal dry matter production (fdmp), by the indigestible acid detergent fiber (iadf), as internal marker, were also compared. eighteen santa inês sheep (averaging live weight of 20 kg and six months old) were full fed diets with 2.42; 2.66 and 2.83 mcal metabolizable energy/kg of dry matter and allotted to a randomized block design, with six replicates. fdmp estimate, using iadf, was performed to be compared with the fdmp, determined by the total feces collection. it was observed increasing linear effect for caddm, cadom, cadee, cadtcho and cadnfc, as the the dietary energy levels increased. however, cadndf and cadadf decreased linearly and, for cadcp, there was no effect, as the the dietary energy levels increased. iadf can be used as internal marker to estimate the coefficient of apparent digestibility in sheep.
