Engineering (ENG) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2015.78049
Abstract: Generalized algorithms for solving problems of discrete, integer, and Boolean programming are discussed. These algorithms are associated with the method of normalized functions and are based on a combination of formal and heuristic procedures. This allows one to obtain quasi-optimal solutions after a small number of steps, overcoming the NP-completeness of discrete optimization problems. Questions of constructing so-called “duplicate” algorithms are considered to improve the quality of discrete problem solutions. An approach to solving discrete problems with fuzzy coefficients in objective functions and constraints on the basis of modifying the generalized algorithms is considered. Questions of applying the generalized algorithms to solve multicriteria discrete problems are also discussed. The results of the paper are of a universal character and can be applied to the design, planning, operation, and control of systems and processes of different purposes. The results of the paper are already being used to solve power engineering problems.

Abstract: this work aimed at verifying the influence of propilthiouracil (ptu)-induced thyroid hormone deficiency on gingival mucosa of young male rats, measuring total protein concentration, collagen content and dna concentration as indices of cellular population. fifty sprague-dawley rats were used. the animals were grouped in: ptu-treated (i.p. 10 mg/d) and control rats (c). the experience was maintained for a period of 10 weeks. total protein content of gingival mucosa tissue was determined by the lowry method; hydroxyprolin rate, as prototype aminoacid of collagen, was determined using the newman method, and dna concentration was measured by burton's methodology. the results showed decreased amounts of ptu-treated rats gingival total protein content (ptu= 41.23 ± 24.05 vs. c= 63.36 ± 18.05); no alterations were seen in hydroxyprolin concentration neither in dna content of ptu treated rats, respectively (ptu= 2.18 ± 1.48 vs. c= 2.29 ± 1.51) and (ptu= 0.33 ± 0.19 vs. c= 0.46 ± 0.41). thus, ptu treatment promotes a decrease in total protein content of rat gingival mucosa that may be interpreted as a decrease in protein synthesis induced by the hypothyroid condition, but with no alteration either in collagen or nucleic acid rates.

Abstract: research on aquatic insects in brazil has increased in the last years. however, gaps exist on the knowledge relating their association with aquatic macrophytes. the objective of this work was to assess the composition and abundance of the entomofauna associated with macrophytes occurring at ribeir?o das anhumas reservoir (américo brasiliense, s?o paulo, brazil), to evaluate the insects functional trophic levels, to compare the faunistic similarities between sampling periods and between macrophytes through psc analyzes (similarity) and pca (principal components analysis), besides establishing the relation between macrophytes wet/dry weight and its associated fauna. we identified 1173 specimens belonging to 26 families distributed in seven orders. the macrophytes support a community predominantly represented for collectors insects (62% of its fauna) followed by predators (31%). the pca analyses also indicated that different collection periods did not influence the faunistic structure; however this analysis indicated spatial segregation between some macrophytes, with a probable existence of a relation between macrophytes space complexity and associated fauna diversity. the analysis of plants dry weight biomass didn't indicate direct relation with insect abundance.

Abstract: the dynamic of operation of sand filters affect the hydraulic performance of irrigation systems, increasing the head loss and changing the total dynamic head of the system. trying to understand part of this dynamic, the objective of this research was to determine the effect of internal hydraulic structures in the head loss of three sand filters of commercial models, manufactured in brazil and operating without the filter layer and with clean water. in addition, using an exponential mathematical model adjusted to the experimental data, comparisons among types of structure of each evaluated filter were performed. the trails were accomplished in the experimental module developed in the laboratory of hydraulics and irrigation of feagri / unicamp. the results showed that the filters structures determined differentiate hydraulic behaviors and each type of structures (diffuser plate and drains) change the standard operation for the evaluated filters. the mathematical function proposed represented significantly the head loss physical phenomenon for the experimental conditions.

CERNE , 2009,
Abstract: In order to improve the knowledge about variations in the floristic community of Brazilian cerrado, especially inregard to soil and climate conditions, we conducted a floristic assessment of the tree and shrub community of three disjoint adjacentregions situated in three municipalities of southwest Minas Gerais state (geographical coordinates 20-23oS and 44-47oW). Over aperiod of 24 months, in 49 allocated plots of 20 x 20 m, all tree and shrub species 1 m high or more in vegetative and/or reproductivestage were sampled. Additional random samples of blossoming plants were collected outside plots, and each plot was analyzed andcategorized for soil type. 170 botanical species were identified belonging to 103 genera and 46 families. Family Fabaceae and genusMiconia presented the largest number of species. Although the cerrado of southwest Minas Gerais extends over marginal areas ofoccurrence of Brazilian cerrado, its floristic composition is rich not only in species but also in genera and families. Some species foundin these cerrados also occur in local semideciduous forests, while other species that are frequently found in other areas of cerrado werenot found in southwest Minas Gerais. Tibouchina sellowiana does not feature in the list of species occurring in Brazilian cerrados. There is little similarity among the three sampled areas due to soil factors and different types of human influence in each of the areas.Alpinópolis presented cerrado sensu stricto subtype cerrado ralo, with 75 species and red-yellow latosol. Campo do Meiopresented cerrado sensu stricto subtype cerrado típico, with 88 species and red latosol. Pimenta falls under the cerrad o category, with 124 species and red latosol. On the subsurface, the soil of Pimenta was found to present lower Al+++ saturation, which apparentlyshapes conditions for a more vigorous vegetation. The cerrado soils sampled in this study showed high similarity to cerrado soils inother parts of Brazil.
Ultraluminous X-ray Source Correlations with Star-Forming Regions

Abstract: Maps of low-inclination nearby galaxies in Sloan Digitized Sky Survey u-g, g-r and r-i colors are used to determine whether Ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) are predominantly associated with star-forming regions of their host galaxies. An empirical selection criterion is derived from colors of HII regions in M81 and M101 that differentiates between the young, blue stellar component and the older disk and bulge population. This criterion is applied to a sample of 58 galaxies of Hubble type S0 and later and verified through an application of Fisher's linear discriminant analysis. It is found that 60% (49%) of ULXs in optically-bright environments are within regions blueward of their host galaxy's HII regions compared to only 27% (0%) of a control sample according to the empirical (Fisher) criterion. This is an excess of 3-sigma above the 32% (27%) expected if the ULXs were randomly distributed within their galactic hosts. This indicates a ULX preference for young, approximately <10 Myr, OB associations. However, none of the ULX environments have the morphology and optical brightness suggestive of a massive young super star cluster though several are in extended or crowded star-forming (blue) environments that may contain clusters unresolved by Sloan imaging. Ten of the 12 ULX candidates with estimated X-ray luminosities in excess of 3e39 erg/s are equally divided among the group of ULX environments redward of HII regions and the group of optically faint regions. This likely indicates that the brightest ULXs turn on at a time somewhat later than typical of HII regions; say 10-20 Myr after star formation has ended. This would be consistent with the onset of an accretion phase as the donor star ascends the giant branch if the donor is a <20 solar-mass star.
