This research investigated the effects of the interdependence between political institutions and development models in the performance of environmental policies in Brazil. The central hypothesis of this work is that given the interdependence between the organizations responsible for environmental policies and development patterns somewhat responsive to environmental complexity, there is a dispersion of decision-making model for encouraging the development of high-carbon. In addition to literature review in Ecological Economics and Public Policy, were put into operation (1) an analysis of brazilian political-institutional design, and (2) the public expenditure framework of the Brazilian federal government with the environment. Two results were observed: first) the design and the powers of the institutions responsible for policy formulation and implementation of public policies interfere with the efficiency of environmental policies; second) the higher the institutional openness, the greater the tendency of decision-making paralysis in the formulation and implementation of environmental public policies.

Ciência e Agrotecnologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/s1413-70542012000500006
Abstract: Rainfall erosivity and its spatial variability were studied for 54 pluviometric stations in Southern Minas Gerais State (48o00' - 44o00'W; 23o50' - 20o00'S), aiming to plan the land-use strategies. Therefore, erosivity factor was determined for the pluviometric stations, using long-term rainfall data sets obtained along with the Brazilian National Water Agency- ANA, which varied from 15 to 40 years. The monthly and annual erosivity indexes were generated using Fournier equation for Lavras, MG and the spatial distribution of rainfall erosivity was studied on the basis of geostatistical approaches considering only the distance which separates them, developing the isotropic experimental semivariogram. The semivariogram adjustment was done based on the Weighted Least Squares method and the spatial dependence degree. Once the structure and the semivariogram adjustment were defined, the ordinary kriging maps were created, providing erosivity spatial behavior in Southern Minas Gerais. It was observed that the Southern Minas Gerais presents high erosivity patterns, ranging from 5,145 to 7,776 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 year-1, in Ijaci (north of region) and Itajubá (southern region), respectively. Besides, it was verified that the erosivity indexes are intensely influenced by the topography, associated with climatic conditions. Higher erosivity is connected to areas with a higher altitude, such as along the Mantiqueira Range Mountain, and on high plateaus and mountain ranges in the North-Central part of the region. The geostatistical approach using long-term rainfall data in Southern region of Minas Gerais state, which is a relatively heterogeneous region in terms of altitude, soil depth and slope, showed to be adequate to the proposal of this study.

Abstract:

The plants of C. arabica do not naturally produce a large number of orthotropic sprouts, hindering clonal multiplication by cutting, which would be the simplest technique with a lower cost of production compared to other methods of vegetative propagation. An alternative form, used successfully in the propagation of eucalyptus, is propagation by minicutting, which consists of pruning the shoot apex of the plant, forming the ministumps, which in variable time interval emits the shoots that will be used to make minicutting. In C. arabica plants the number of shoots can be increased with the application of growth regulators and fertilizers. So, the purpose of this work was to verify the effect of growth regulators and foliar fertilizers on the emission and development of orthotropic shoots of C. arabica. The experiment was installed in a randomized complete block design, with ten treatments composed by growth regulators and fertilizers: T1 (Control); T2 (Stimulate + Sturdy + Enervig); T3 (Stimulate + Vitakelp + Biozyme); T4 (Tiba + Sturdy + Enervig); T5 (Tiba + Vitakelp + Biozyme); T6 (Brs + Sturdy + Enervig) T7 (Brs + Vitakelp + Biozyme); T8 (Stimulate); T9 (TIBA); T10 (Brs-Brassinoesteroid), each plot consisting of two plants. Biometric and physiological parameters were evaluated for the ministumps, as well as the biometric parameters of the shoots and plant survival. The results showed that there was no influence of the treatments on the biometric parameters of the ministumps. A greater number of orthotopic sprouts were obtained in treatments with the TIBA growth regulator, as well as a greater plant survival of the minicuttings, after 25 days of transplanting in a greenhouse. It was concluded that TIBA treatments influenced the production and quality of clonal minicuttings of C. arabica.

Revista Ciência Agron?mica , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-66902012000300002
Abstract: it is difficult to quantify the different soil characteristics that are related to sustainability, and to translate these indicators into soil-quality indexes. therefore, this study aimed to establish such indexes for different forestry and adjacent native scrubland use and management systems by the integrated evaluation of physical and chemical properties. to this end, two quality indexes were developed (iqs1 and iqs2), using a database of eucalyptus and native scrubland management systems for latosols in the state of minas gerais. in iqs1, natural ecosystems, characterized by minimal anthropic intervention and having the expected equilibrium, were used as reference. iqs2 was generated from an additive model that considers the main soil functions and the quality indicators associated with them by assigning weights to those functions and indicators. iqs1 and iqs2 presented different values for the soils and management systems analyzed. the systems suffered reductions in sqi1 when compared to the native systems, with only the agro-forestry systems having higher soil-quality values, when compared to the reference systems. using iqs2 the red-yellow latosols (lva1 and lva2) showed higher soil quality than the red latosols (lv1 and lv2), this result being due to the lower limitations of the chemical and physical attributes on the principal soil functions, influenced by the management systems of those soils. only the agro-forestry systems employing eucalyptus with rice and eucalyptus with soybeans provided improved soil quality when using the two systems analyzed.

Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira , 2010, DOI: 10.4336/2012.pfb.62.85
O fluxo de CO2 n o apresenta variabilidade espacialmente estruturada na escala de amostragem adotada, com distribui o considerada aleatória. doi: 10.4336/2010.pfb.30.62.85 Soil is an important compartment of carbon in terrestrial ecosystem, retaining substantial quantity of this element in organic forms, mainly in forest areas. The understanding of the factors that affect the fluxes of soil CO2 is the basic to the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. The objective of this work was to evaluate the patterns of spatial variability of soil CO2 flux in native forest in a very clayey dystroferric Red Latosol (Oxisol), in Lavras city, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. A grid of 32 points was delimited, regularly spaced in 5 m distance, in which the CO2 flux and environmental factors (water evaporation, temperature and soil moisture) and attributes related to fertility (pH, base soil saturation and exchangeable aluminium), structure (bulk density and total porosity) and soil organic matter (total organic carbon, microbial biomass carbon) were evaluated. Simple linear correlation analyses indicated that the soil CO2 emissions are a complex phenomenon, being not satisfactorily explained by a single soil or environment attribute. The CO2 flux did not present spatially structured variability in the adopted sampling scale, having a distribution that was considered as randomized. doi: 10.4336/2010.p

Abstract: Due to the dimension of worldwide production of pineapple and to high amount of generated waste from its cultivation and processing, several research have been developed to recovery the enzymes presents on pineapple, such as bromelain. Bromelain is the general name given to the group of endopeptidases found in pineapple as well as all proteases derived from members of the family Bromeliaceae, which belongs to the pineapple. Because of that play important physiological roles, these enzymes offers a wide range of proven therapeutic applications. This work aims the purification of bromelain from pineapple waste through PEG/Salt aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) using (NH4)2SO4, CaCl2 and potassium phosphate. The results showed that in CaCl2 experiments have no ATPS formation in the range of its constituents. However, the PEG/phosphate systems and PEG/(NH4)2SO4 systems showed excellent results, recovering with bromelain purification factor of 7.4 and 10.7 times, respectively, and yields above 80%.
