Titanium tetrafluoride and dental caries: a systematic review

Abstract: the aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effectiveness of titanium tetrafluoride as a preventive or cariostatic agent against caries. the databases used to find the articles analyzed were medline lilacs, and bbo. in medline and lilacs the search strategy utilized was "titanium" [words] and "tetrafluoride" [words] and spanish or english or portuguese [language], whereas in bbo "titanio" [words] and "tetrafluoreto" [words] and espanhol or inglês or português [language]. out of a total of 42 studies found, which assessed possible preventive/cariostatic effects of titanium tetrafluoride against caries in vivo, only 2 were selected. in both studies, titanium tetrafluoride was shown to be effective against caries. however, given that the quality and consequently the validity of these two clinical studies are questionable, their results do not allow to conclude that titanium tetrafluoride is effective against caries clinically.
R&D Management and the Stokes Diagram: An Exploratory Study

Abstract: the stokes diagram model was developed to replace the linear mode view of a progression of science by a two dimensional plane in which the vertical dimension represents the search of understanding and the horizontal dimension represents the use. although this diagram is easy to understand, no cases of organizations or government programs were identified in literature which developed a method to put this proposal in practice. thus, based on the development of a conceptual and operating model, both dimensions were measured and validated through structural equation modeling, using information from 28 dissertations developed in a postgraduate program. the results suggest that the proposed method is viable and give some examples of its use to analyze and manage r&d activities.
Evaluation of activity of the crude ethanolic extract of Magonia pubescens St. Hil (Sapindaceae) against larvae of the cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Canestrini, 1887) (Acari: Ixodidae)

Abstract: the acaricidal potential of the crude ethanolic extract (c.e.e.) of the stem peel of magonia pubescens was evaluated against larvae of rhipicephalus (boophilus) microplus. the larvae were placed in filter paper envelopes impregnated with different concentrations of c.e.e., dissolved in dimethylsulfoxide (dmso) and distilled water for determination of lethal concentrations (lc). the following treatments were used: 1. envelopes of dry filter paper; 2. envelopes of filter paper moistened with distilled water; 3. envelopes of filter paper moistened with a solution of dmso in distilled water; and 4. envelopes moistened with 2 ml of each concentration of the c.e.e. to be tested. the bioassays were carried out in quadruplicate at 27°±1° c and rh e"80% and 12h light. mortality was observed after 48 h, lc50 and lc99 values of 365 and 4,000 ppm being obtained. there was no significant mortality in larvae exposed to the first three treatments (p < 0.05).

Abstract: the main objectives of this paper are the validation of a scale of learning culture and the analysis of its relationship with organizational performance, in brazil. the scale, dimensions of the learning organization questionnaire (dloq), proposed by marsick e watkins (2003) was translated from english into portuguese and was subsequently semantically validated. the questionnaire was answered by 566 employees from a brazilian organization of the electrical sector. the data were collected via the organization intranet in the second half of 2005. the scale in its full version has 55 items being 43 of learning culture and 12 of organizational performance. the theoretical framework firstly discusses concepts of organizational learning culture and presents studies using dloq in other contexts. subsequently, concepts of organizational performance used by marsick and watkins (2003) to build the scale are discussed. the application of dloq full version in brazilian context showed adequate reliability and convergent validity, however, did not show discriminate validity (corrêa; guimar?es, 2006). to solve this problem, this study used a simplified version of that scale, created by yang (2003), called by the author dloq-a. this version is composed of 27 items distributed in the seven dimensions of organizational learning culture: learning opportunities; questioning and dialogue; collaboration and team learning; systems to capture and share learning; responsibility and delegation of power; development of a systemic vision of organization; stimulating strategic leadership for learning, and two dimensions of organizational performance: financial performance and organizational knowledge gain. the results of this study showed convergent validity, discriminate validity, reliability and criterion validity, as well as being parsimonious. thus, it was possible to conclude that the dloq-a has been validated in the brazilian context. the survey results showed that the learning culture exp

Abstract: Este artigo descreve resultados de um estudo que teve por objetivo validar a escala de medida de cultura de aprendizagem e sua rela o com desempenho em organiza o brasileira. O instrumento dimensions of the learning organization questionnaire (Dloq) ou questionário das dimens es da organiza o que aprende, proposto por Marsick e Watkins (2003), foi traduzido da língua inglesa para a portuguesa e em seguida semanticamente validado. O questionário foi respondido por 566 empregados de uma organiza o do setor elétrico. Os dados foram coletados via intranet da organiza o pesquisada no segundo semestre de 2005. O instrumento, em sua vers o completa, possui 55 itens, sendo 43 da cultura de aprendizagem e 12 do desempenho organizacional. O referencial teórico discute inicialmente conceitos de cultura de aprendizagem organizacional e apresenta estudos que utilizaram o Dloq em outros contextos. Na sequência, s o discutidos conceitos de desempenho organizacional utilizados por Marsick e Watkins (2003) na constru o do instrumento. A aplica o do Dloq no contexto brasileiro com sua vers o completa apresentou validade convergente e confiabilidade adequada, no entanto n o apresentou validade discriminante (CORRêA; GUIMAR ES, 2006). Para resolver esse problema, neste estudo foi utilizada uma vers o simplificada desse instrumento, criada por Yang (2003), chamado pela autora de Dloq-A. Essa vers o é composta de 27 itens distribuídos nas sete dimens es da cultura de aprendizagem – oportunidades para a aprendizagem contínua, questionamento e diálogo, colabora o e aprendizagem em equipe, sistemas para capturar e compartilhar a aprendizagem, delega o de poder e responsabilidade, desenvolvimento da vis o sistêmica da organiza o e estímulo à lideran a estratégica para a aprendizagem – e nas duas dimens es do desempenho organizacional – desempenho financeiro e ganho de conhecimento organizacional. Os resultados deste estudo apresentaram validade convergente, validade discriminante, confiabilidade e validade de critério, além de ser parcimonioso. Dessa forma, conclui-se que o Dloq-A foi validado no contexto brasileiro. Os resultados da pesquisa mostraram que a cultura de aprendizagem explica 43% da variancia do desempenho organizacional.

Abstract: The variation exists in the recommendations of employed materials in the composition of the substrata for production of papaya seedlings and usually, the organic fertilization is associated with the mineral fertilization. In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different substrata composed associated with the potassium fertilization on the growth of Carica papaya seedlings in. The Experiment was lead in the Center of Agrarians Science of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Areia-PB. The experimental delineation was block-type to perhaps, with three repetitions. The experimental unit was constituted of four bags with capacity for 1 dm3 contends a plant for bag. The collected data had been submitted analyze it of variance and regression, appropriate for experiment with mixtures. It was verified that the increase of the concentration of manure caused greater growth of the crop, while that the sand had the contrary effect. The maximum values of crop growth parameters of papaya had been gotten with 25% of land, 45% of sand, 30% of manure, without addition of KCl.

Abstract: the aim of this research is to evaluate the quality of the description of the methodological procedures reported in articles that employed structural equation modeling (sem), including confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis, which were published in rae, rausp, read, o&s, rac and rae-eletr?nica journals between 2001 and 2010. a checklist for evaluating the articles was derived from the literature and was validated with 33 experts. the main results of the analysis of the 68 articles found were: an inability to replicate studies due to a lack of information and the use of exploratory research strategies without further validation. on the other hand, justifying the use of sem use and the explanation of the theoretical implications of research findings are aspects that were fully met by the papers. the checklist itself is an important byproduct of this research, given that new lines of research regarding the application of the sem method are derived from it and it can also be used as a teaching tool in research methodology courses.

Abstract: Esta pesquisa teve o objetivo de avaliar a qualidade da descri o dos procedimentos metodológicos de artigos que utilizaram a modelagem em equa es estruturais (MEE), incluindo a análise fatorial confirmatória e a path analysis, e que foram publicados na RAE, RAUSP, REAd, O&S, RAC e RAE-eletr nica entre 2001 e 2010. A partir da revis o da literatura metodológica, foi elaborado um check list para avaliar as treze etapas da MEE, sendo validado com 33 especialistas. Os principais resultados da análise de 68 artigos encontrados foram: a impossibilidade de replicar os estudos devido à falta de informa es e o uso de estratégias exploratórias sem a posterior valida o. Por outro lado, a justificativa do método utilizado e a explica o das implica es teóricas dos resultados s o aspectos que têm sido atendidos plenamente.
