Suplementos fluorados pós-natais: recomenda??es de pediatras, entidades profissionais e institui??es públicas de saúde
Ribeiro, Denise Marrone;Narvai, Paulo Capel;
Revista Brasileira de Saúde Materno Infantil , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-38292009000300002
Abstract: objectives: to identify the opinion of pediatricians and the recommendations of professional organizations and public health institutions regarding the prescription of fluoride supplements. methods: a questionnaire was sent to pediatric doctors. additional information on fluoride supplements was obtained from seven professional organizations and four public health institutions. results: approximately one in every ten pediatricians reported having prescribed some fluorine supplement. the risk of dental fluorosis, when water is fluoridated, was the main reason given for believing that this should not be done. with regard to professional organizations only two gave appropriate responses. the others did not have a satisfactory opinion regarding reasonable use of fluorine. the response of the public institutions was appropriate, even though the ministry of health has not stated a position on the issue. conclusions: one in every 10 pediatricians reported having prescribed supplements containing fluorine to children living in s?o paulo, a city in which the water is already fluoridated. there is, therefore, a need for the public authorities and dental associations to take on their responsibilities with regard to the use of fluoride supplements.
Brazilian scientific production on pharmaceutical care from 1990 to 2009
Funchal-Witzel, Maria Denise Ricetto;Castro, Lia Lusitana Cardozo de;Romano-Lieber, Nicolina Silvana;Narvai, Paulo Capel;
Brazilian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-82502011000200023
Abstract: brazilian scientific production on pharmaceutical care was identified based on articles indexed on the medline, embase, lilacs, web of science and international pharmaceutical abstracts databases. sixty-three articles published in both national and international journals were retrieved. with regard to authors, 72.3% were from the southeast and south regions, and 60.8% were affiliated to public universities. in relation to the type of studies, 85.7% were descriptive, and the most frequently researched fields were community pharmacies, hospitals and primary health care units. articles were original in 65.1% of cases, updates in 20.6%, and reviews in 7.9%. an increase in publications commenced in 2006. in 31.7% of cases, authors had adopted a bibliographical study design, 28.6% qualitative study, 23.8% intervention, and 15.9% observational study design. the most researched subjects were elderly with chronic diseases. the importance of stimulating the conducting of experimental and qualitative studies, as well as amplifying authorship affiliated with the service area, foreign authors and with research in a wide variety of practice settings were highlighted. despite the limited quantity of articles, an increase in their number as well as in their scope and quality is expected, so as to create further knowledge that contributes to the recognition of pharmacists' actions by patient healthcare teams.
Cárie dentária e flúor: uma rela??o do século XX
Narvai,Paulo Capel;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232000000200011
Abstract: in the early of twentieth century, dental caries were a big public health problem around world. infection, pain, suffering and mutilation reached all people. the discovering of preventive effect of fluorine became them, through the century, the main agent in fighting to disease worldwide. in various countries, including brazil, fluoridated products have been pointed as main causes for dental caries prevalence decline. also in brazil, at the 50s and 60s, the preventive effect of water fluoridation was ratified for some pioneer studies. for the period 1986-1996 epidemiological data shown a significant reduction of 53% in the dmf-t index value at 12-years-old schoolchildren. water and dentifrices are largely used as vehicle for fluoride in public health actions. in brazil 42% of population has access to fluoridated water. most dentifrices contain fluoride. this paper approach historical aspects of fluoride uses in public health and presents any epidemiological data on dental caries prevalence in brazil. conclude asking if fluoridated products will have same importance for oral health promotion in next decades.
Saúde bucal coletiva: caminhos da odontologia sanitária à bucalidade

Brand on the run: mirada semiótica sobre Slow Food
Marrone, Gianfranco;
Tópicos del seminario , 2011,
Abstract: in this article, a semiotic definition of slowness is constructed -concept and value, lexeme and object, social praxis with different forms of textual enactments- based on an individual research project in which the theme of gastronomy comes into play, on one hand, that of the body and of nature, and on the other hand, that of brand communication and political discourse. from this, the recurrence to the phenomenon of slow food, key topic, since it interprets all these dimensions of sense and culture, which frequently the theory of meaning insists on dealing with separately, therefore excluding the possibility of explaining said phenomenon reciprocally, and therefore of understanding it. through a detailed analysis of two key texts of this world-wide movement -the manifest of its creation and the logo- are made to stand a test of slowness in the various levels of the generative path of sense, and not only within a broader semantic category that opposes it to speed.
Da opini o pública ao corpo polí-tico
Gianfranco Marrone
Abstract: Politics is not only an object thati is studied by different disciplines but also fertile field of investigation for Sociossemiotics. If Politics is a system of signification it is important to deal with it as such proposing methodological sugestions that should be able to link its sensitive-expressive dimensions (the politic practice) and comphreensive dimensions (the political values). This essay tries to show through the renewal of its theoretical instruments, how Sociossemiotics can now contribute with explanations models of sociopolitics phenomena which take part in the two dimensions of human experience and the two semiotic regime - one of the sense and the other of the signification.
Four-neutrino mixing solutions of the atmospheric neutrino anomaly
A. Marrone
Physics , 2001, DOI: 10.1016/S0920-5632(01)01451-7
Abstract: Solutions to the atmospheric neutrino anomaly which smoothly interpolate between nu_mu -> nu_tau and nu_mu -> nu_s oscillations are studied. It is shown that, although the Super-Kamiokande data disfavor the pure nu_mu -> nu_s channel, one cannot exclude sizable amplitude for the nu_mu -> nu_s channel in addition to nu_mu -> nu_tau oscillations.
Shannon Entropy in Distributed Scientific Calculations on Mobiles Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETs)  [PDF]
Pablo José Iuliano, Luís Marrone
Communications and Network (CN) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/cn.2013.53B2076
Abstract:

This paper addresses the problem of giving a formal metric to estimate uncertainty at the moment of starting a distributed scientific calculation on clients working over mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). Measuring the uncertainty related to the successful completion of a distributed computation on the aforementioned network infrastructure is based on the Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence (DST). Shannon Entropy will be the formal mechanism by which the conflict in the scenarios proposed in this paper will be estimated. This paper will begin with a description of the procedure by which connectivity probability is to be obtained and will continue by presenting the mobility model most appropriate for the performed simulations. Finally, simulations will be performed to calculate the Shannon Entropy, after which the corresponding conclusions will be presented.

Narvai, Paulo Capel;Almeida, Eurivaldo Sampaio de;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X1998000300008
Abstract: the brazilian scientific literature on social and preventive dentistry from 1986 to 1993 was identified and analyzed to verify whether themes of papers referred to health policy and the national health system. published scientific articles were used as the unit of analysis for the study. an analytical survey was conducted considering the following variables, amongst others: author's institutional affiliation; author's title; author's areas of interest; type of research; type of article; and research funding sources. articles reviewed were published between the first and second national oral health conferences. there were 386 articles published in 19 journals, by at least 866 authors. more than 75% of the studies came from public universities. rgo was the largest publisher in this field, followed by revista da apcd. original articles accounted for 56.7% of the studies, while 30.3% were reviews and essays. the majority of the authors were from the state of s?o paulo. male writers predominated. a "quantitative deficiency" was identified, since scientific production remained below 50% of its potential. health policy was considered a specific issue in only 3 articles (0.8%) while 7 (1.8%) discussed the national health system.
