Social Merchandising: Human Trafficking in Brazilian Soap Opera  [PDF]
Denise Avancini Alves, Maria Helena Weber
Advances in Journalism and Communication (AJC) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ajc.2015.34010
Abstract: Human trafficking is one of today’s largest shadow economies. This theme was included in plot of Salve Jorge, a soap opera in Brazil (broadcasted by Globo Network between October 2012 and May 2013). This article analyzes the social merchandising, an approach given to international human trafficking in entertainment venues of television, especially, from the telenovela Salve Jorge. The strategy of inclusion of social issues in the plots is recognized as social merchandising. So, it is in this privileged media space that the story of a social problem is also constituted. The study focuses on the discussion of the power of the telenovela to dramatize issues of public interest, having main broadcasting and audience of Salve Jorge. One seeks to question the maintenance and the impact of the subject of human trafficking as a dialogue between fiction and reality portrayed by Brazilian television. The show, Salve Jorge, is based on the real-life story of a Brazilian woman who was led to Israel and forced into prostitution. Therefore, human trafficking emerges as the central theme of this study over the main plot of Salve Jorge.
Morfologia de plantulas e plantas jovens de 30 espécies arbóreas de Leguminosae
Oliveira, Denise Maria Trombert;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33061999000300006
Abstract: seedlings and saplings of tree species of leguminosae from s?o paulo state, brazil, were studied morphologically. this study was also carried out due to the scarce information about seedlings and saplings besides the importance of these data as a support for taxonomic, phylogenetic and ecological studies. the seedling and sapling development were observed daily in a germinator and greenhouse. seedling morphology, cataphyll number, first eophyll differentiation time and their phyllotaxis, cotyledon abscision time, first metaphyll differentiation and radicular nodulation data are presented. the results showed the greatest seedling variation in leguminosae. in this family, epigeal-foliaceous and epigeal-fleshy seedlings occurred in 80% of the studied species. in caesalpinioideae, all seedlings were epigeal, 20% of these seedlings had fleshy cotyledons. in mimosoideae, 66.7% of the species had epigeal-foliaceous seedlings, 22.2% epigeal-fleshy and 11.1% semi-hypogeal seedlings. faboideae species exhibited two types of seedlings: 54.5% were epigeal-fleshy and 45.5% were hypogeal.
Gomes, Denise Maria Cavalcante;
Boletim do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. Ciências Humanas , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1981-81222012000100010
Abstract: the article discusses the idea of the existence of a pre-colonial aesthetics of the american territory, based on the great geographic distribution of a same cosmological substrate. its material expression would be the different classes of archaeological objects involved in ritual. the concept that guides this discussion is the amerindian perspectivism. originally formulated to deal with the singularity of the amazonian indigenous thought, working on the symbolic relationship between the humanity and other beings, this concept with a pan-american distribution is recognized by the ethnographies, the myths, and the representations in the iconography of artifacts revealed by archaeology, particularly those that shows bodies in the state of transformation. these artistic representations of amazonian, andean and the north american northwestern coast pre-colonial objects are considered part of the systems of thought and social organization. they make it possible to recognize a mythological and cosmological unity in amerindian world that goes beyond social morphologies and political structures.
Morfologia comparada de plantulas e plantas jovens de leguminosas arbóreas nativas: espécies de Phaseoleae, Sophoreae, Swartzieae e Tephrosieae
OLIVEIRA, DENISE MARIA TROMBERT;
Brazilian Journal of Botany , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-84042001000100010
Abstract: in this paper, seedlings and saplings of erythrina speciosa (phaseoleae), holocalyx balansae and sophora tomentosa (sophoreae), swartzia langsdorffii (swartzieae), lonchocarpus muehlbergianus and platycyamus regnellii (tephrosieae) were studied, aiming to describe the morphology at early developmental stages of leguminous trees, in order to identify species, and provide information for taxonomic, phylogenetic and ecological works. erythrina speciosa showed epigeal-fleshy seedlings with two eophylls only. the species of sophoreae and swartzieae formed hypogeal seedlings with 5-7 eophylls in holocalyx balansae, 6-15 in sophora tomentosa and 7-10 in swartzia langsdorffii. in tephrosieae, lonchocarpus muehlbergianus showed hypogeal seedlings with 8-10 eophylls, while platycyamus regnellii had epigeal-fleshy seedlings with two eophylls only. seedlings and saplings of erythrina speciosa and platycyamus regnellii are similar and are distinguished only by the presence of spines and extra-floral nectaries in the former. the phyllotaxy of sophoreae and swartzieae show alternate nodes, while in phaseoleae and tephrosieae the first node is opposite, becoming alternate in the subsequent ones. radicular nodules were observed in all species but holocalyx balansae and platycyamus regnellii.
Morfo-anatomia do embri?o de leguminosas arbóreas nativas
OLIVEIRA, DENISE MARIA TROMBERT;
Brazilian Journal of Botany , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-84041999000300010
Abstract: in order to characterize the embryonic axes of seeds of fabaceae and to provide information about the systematics and phylogeny of this family, morphological and anatomical aspects of embryos were studied, especially embryonic axes of 15 native tree species in an attempt to correlate axis structures and affinity among genera, as well as genera in tribes. foliaceous cotyledons in caesalpinioideae, fleshy cotyledons in faboideae, and foliaceous and fleshy cotyledons in mimosoideae were observed. the embryonic axes ranged from short to long, being straight in caesalpinioideae and mimosoideae, and curved or deflexed in faboideae. the plumules ranged from undifferentiated to differentiated. the undifferentiated plumules were found in species with no epicotyl, while differentiated plumules were arranged on the elongated epicotyl. the anatomy of the protoderm was undifferentiated in most species. trichomes in differentiation were seen in caesalpinia leiostachya, centrolobium tomentosum and anadenanthera macrocarpa, papillae in platypodium elegans, and differentiated glandular and non-glandular trichomes in inga urugüensis. the procambium was undifferentiated. the ground meristem showed starch accumulations in all the species. druses were seen in peltophorum dubium, and isolated polyhedral crystals in inga urugüensis and in lonchocarpus muehlbergianus. this latter species also showed secretory structures in the cotyledon node region.

Brazilian Journal of Botany , 2001,
OLIVEIRA DENISE MARIA TROMBERT
Brazilian Journal of Botany , 1999,

Cytogenetic study of women with premature ovarian failure
Pagni, Denise;Melaragno, Maria Isabel;
Genetics and Molecular Biology , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-47571998000200016
Abstract: etiology of premature ovarian failure (pof) is unclear in most patients. since some cases are related to x-chromosome abnormalities, cytogenetical studies were conducted in patients with pof. lymphocyte cultures from eleven patients were compared to cultures from age-matched controls. all individuals presented normal karyotypes. frequencies of aneuploid and structural chromosome aberrations did not differ between the groups. the x chromosome was more frequently involved in aneuploidy and in premature centromere division in both groups.
