Abstract: the increasing demand for raw material for multiple uses of forest products and by-products has attracted the interest for fast growing species, such as the australian cedar (toona ciliata), which presents high productive and economic potential. the present work aimed at estimating genetic diversity by dna markers and morphological traits supported for the mixed models. the following traits were measured and genotypes were sampled randomly in different areas: diameter at breast height, height, cylindrical volume, diameter, distance between nodes and crown diameter. twelve rapd primers were used and generated a total of 91 marks, 82 of which were polymorphic. the high percentage of polymorphic markers, 90.10%, demonstrated that discrimination in this species is efficient, but it yet little studied, for this case we can find the extent of the genetic basis for the application of technical improvement. the assessment of genetic diversity by the upgma method using the binary and morphological data provided the expression of genetic dissimilarities among the accessions evaluated, optimizing the perception of this divergence. the use of mixed models was efficient to assess combined genetic diversity to optimize the selection of genotypes with divergent genetic values for diameter at breast height.

Abstract: due to the restriction that the stiff plastic tubes impose to the lateral growth of the root system, the use of pressed organic materials has been proposed for the production of forests species seedlings. the research was carried out with the objectives of evaluating the production of rootstock 'rangpur' lime tree in pressed blocks until the transplant, and the effect of those systems were evaluated and doses of slow release fertilizer on the growth of that rootstock until the grafting point. three production systems were evaluated: in stiff plastic tubes filled up with commercial substrate composed by pinus bark; in stiff plastic tubes filled up with substrate composed by sugarcane bagasse and industrial sugarcane plant residues, (3:2;v:v); and production in "pressed blocks" constituted by the press of the substrate used in the system 2. from transplant at the grafting point, five doses of osmocote? (npk 14-14-14) were used: 5, 10, 15, 20 e 25g plant-1. compared to the seedlings grown in tubes, seedlings coming of the system of pressed blocks reached the transplant and the grafting point more quickly. in the grafting point they resulted in rootstocks with larger stem diameter, larger root and aerial part dry matter. the system used in the production of the rootstock also interfered in the answer of the plants to the employed manuring.

Abstract: the increasing demand for raw material for multiple uses of forest products and by-products has attracted the interest for fast growing species, such as the australian cedar (toona ciliata), which presents high productive and economic potential. this study aimed at estimating genotypic parameters and values for the species through the use of the blup procedure, at individual level, with repeated measures, by means of the conventional evaluation procedures and the introduction of innovative digitalization of the measurements by digital camera with the images provided by the imagej software system. the main objective is to subsidize the beginning of a breeding program for the species. the assays were carried out in private properties, in plantations located in the state of rio de janeiro, brazil. the results generated by three evaluations revealed that the image digital analysis is adequate to quantify characteristics of toona ciliata. it is also an effective and accurate alternative to minimize the costs of data collection in evaluations with the species. there was high accuracy for the characters plant height, diameter at breast height and cylindrical volume. out of the 90 genotypes evaluated, 38 expressed genotypic values predicted for the diameter at breast height higher than the general average of this character, 33 for the cylindrical volume and 49 for height, allowing gains of up to 24.9 % in average for cylindrical volume. the method of mixed models (reml/blup) applied via the selegen software system, using the blup procedure at individual level and repeated measures in each individual proved to be adequate to estimate the genetic parameters and predict genotypic values in situations of unbalanced data. therefore, it is very useful and practical for toona ciliata genetic breeding programs.

Abstract: This work deals with the identification of the forgotten 18th century European models of eight oil paintings on wood panels of Marian emblematic images on invocations of the Lauretan Litany in the Chapter Chapel at St. Francis Convent of the city of Salvador, Bahia, one of the richest complexes of colonial art in Brazil. It proceeds to compare the panels with their respective printed sources, i. e., the illustrations of the book Elogia Mariana (Augsburg, 1732), redrawn by Thomas Scheffler and engraved by Martin Engelbrecht after original engravings by 1 O presente trabalho foi apresentado originalmente no VI Congresso Internacional da Sociedade Espanhola de Emblemática, em Gandía (Espanha), em outubro de 2007, e publicado em Rafael García Mahíques e Vicent F. Abstract: – Taking as starting point the evidence of the modest participation of Portugal in emblematic at the time of the great development of that genre throughout Europe, especially in relation to emblem books, notwithstanding the undeniable influence exerted by foreign emblematic works upon Portuguese authors, the present article tries to carry out a survey of the titles produced in that country, original and in translation, both printed and manuscript, as well as of the secondary literature regarding them, and points out as the original and relevant Portuguese contribution to emblematics the use of emblem motifs in glazed tile panels, of which it seeks also to draw up an inventory.

AbstractBoth multilateral trade agreements and environmental treaties have their own logic, suggesting the likelihood of disaggregating conflicts between rules and principles of these regimes that would affect the unity and coherence of International Law. I hold that international trade and environmental protection are mutually complementary, as per Agenda 21. An open multilateral trading system enables the allocation and efficient use of resources and contributes to the increase of production and profits, reducing demands on the environment. It provides the additional means necessary for economic growth and improved environmental protection. A healthy environment, on the other hand, provides environmental resources to sustain growth and support the continued expansion of trade.I propose that the “dialogue” of the sources –methods designed to ensure the simultaneous and coordinated application of two or more rules– integrates, from the hermeneutic perspective, the rules on international trade and environmental protection.
