Zhenhua Hu, Jian Gao, Danye Zhang, Qing Liu, Limei Yan, Lili Gao, Juanjuan Liu, Dawo Liu, Shulan Zhang, Bei Lin
PLOS ONE , 2013, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0057250
Abstract: Objectives To measure Lewis y antigen and CD44 antigen expression in epithelial ovarian carcinoma and to correlate the levels of these antigens with clinical response to chemotherapy. Methods The study cases included 34 cases of ovarian carcinoma with resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs, 6 partially drug-sensitive cases, and 52 drug-sensitive cases (92 total). Results The rates of expression of Lewis y antigen and CD44 antigen were significantly greater in the drug-resistant group than that in the partially-sensitive or sensitive groups. Surgical stage, residual tumor size and expression of CD44 and Lewis y antigen in ovarian carcinoma tissues were independent risk factors for chemotherapeutic drug resistance. Conclusions Over-expression of Lewis y and CD44 antigen are strong risk factors for chemotherapeutic drug resistance in ovarian carcinoma patients.

Huimin Wang,Mingzi Tan,Song Zhang,Xiao Li,Jian Gao,Danye Zhang,Yingying Hao,Song Gao,Juanjuan Liu,Bei Lin
International Journal of Molecular Sciences , 2015, DOI: 10.3390/ijms16023391
Abstract: Aims: The aim of the present study is to investigate the differential expression of CD44, CD47 and c-met in ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC), the correlation in their expression and their relationship with the biological behavior of OCCC. Methods: We used immunohistochemistry to examine the expression of CD44, CD47 and c-met in OCCC (86 cases) and investigated the effects of the expression and interaction of these molecules on the development of OCCC. Results: CD44, CD47 and c-met expression was significantly high in OCCC. Expression of CD44 and CD47 correlated with patient surgical stage, chemotherapy resistance and prognosis (all p < 0.05), and expression of c-met correlated with chemotherapy resistance and prognosis (all p < 0.05), but did not correlate with lymph node metastasis (all p > 0.05). The surgical stage, CD44, CD47 and c-met expression were independent risk factors for OCCC prognosis (all p < 0.05). Patients with low levels of CD44, CD47 and c-met showed better survival than those with high levels (all p < 0.05). There was a positive correlation between CD44 (or CD47) and c-met, as well as between CD44 and CD47 (the Spearman correlation coefficient r s was 0.783, 0.776 and 0.835, respectively, all p < 0.01). Additionally, pairwise correlation analysis of these three markers shows that the high expression of CD44/CD47, CD44/c-met and CD47/c-met were correlated with patient surgical stage, chemotherapy resistance and prognosis (all p < 0.05), but did not correlate with lymph node metastasis (all p > 0.05). Conclusions: Expression of CD44, CD47 and c-met was upregulated in OCCC and pairwise correlation. CD44, CD47 and c-met may have synergistic effects on the development of OCCC and are prognostic factors for ovarian cancer.

International Journal of Molecular Sciences , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/ijms140611024
Abstract: Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation and clinical significance between the expression of Mucin-1 (MUC1) and the Lewis y antigen with chemoresistance in ovarian epithelial cancers. Methods: Ovarian cancer patients ( n = 92) treated at our hospital from May 2005 to July 2009 were divided, according to their treatment and follow-up outcomes, into a resistant group ( n = 37) or sensitive group ( n = 55). The expression of MUC1 and Lewis y antigen in ovarian cancer tissues was detected using immunohistochemistry and correlated with chemoresistance. Results: The positive rates of MUC1 and Lewis y antigen in the resistant group were both 91.89%, significantly higher than their positive rates in the sensitive group (65.45% and 69.09%, respectively, and both p < 0.05). MUC1 or Lewis y expression and the pathological stage of the tissue were independent risk factors for chemoresistance (all p < 0.05). Conclusion: The increased expression of MUC1 and the Lewis y antigen is a significant risk factor for chemoresistance in patients with ovarian epithelial cancer.

Chaos Control in a Discrete Ecological System  [PDF]
Limin Zhang, Chaofeng Zhang
International Journal of Modern Nonlinear Theory and Application (IJMNTA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ijmnta.2012.13011
Abstract: In research [1], the authors investigate the dynamic behaviors of a discrete ecological system. The period-double bifurcations and chaos are found in the system. But no strategy is proposed to control the chaos. It is well known that chaos control is the first step of utilizing chaos. In this paper, a controller is designed to stabilize the chaotic orbits and enable them to be an ideal target one. After that, numerical simulations are presented to show the correctness of theoretical analysis.

In this analysis, the single crystal of schiff base has been synthesized and the purity of material has been increased by repeated recrystallization process. Single crystal was grown by adopting the method growing in a slow evaporation solution using ethanol as solvent at room temperature. A new fluorescent molecule based on Schiff base has been synthesised and its binding properties investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy to show that it can selectively bind Cu2+ with fluorescence quenching.

Mathematical Reasoning of Economic Intervening Principle Based on “Yin Yang Wu Xing” Theory in Traditional Chinese Economics (I)  [PDF]
Ziqing Zhang, Yingshan Zhang
Modern Economy (ME) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/me.2013.42016

By using mathematical reasoning, this paper demonstrates the economic intervening principle: “Virtual disease is to fill his mother but real disease is to rush down his son” and “ Strong inhibition of the same time, support the weak” based on “Yin Yang Wu Xing” Theory in Traditional Chinese Economics (TCE). We defined generalized relations and generalized reasoning, introduced the concept of steady multilateral systems with two non-compatibility relations, and discussed its energy properties. Later based on the intervening principle of TCE and treated the economic society as a steady multilateral system, it has been proved that the intervening principle above is true. The kernel of this paper is the existence and reasoning of the non-compatibility relations in steady multilateral systems, and it accords with the oriental thinking model.

Influence Factor Analysis on Strength of Lime-Fly Ash Loess  [PDF]
Yufen Zhang, Zhiquan Zhang
Engineering (ENG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2013.56068
Abstract: Lime-fly ash loess is composed of fly ash, lime and loess. It is a new material in subgrade backfill. Main factors to influence the strength of lime-fly ash loess are age, amount of fly ash and lime, ratio of fly ash to lime (1:K), and moisture content. In order to observe the effect of each factor influencing the strength of lime-fly ash loess and find out the relationship between each other, this paper adopted orthogonal test design to conduct unconfined compression tests. The result shows that 90d strength can be considered to calculate the strength of lime-fly ash loess in practice. And the most important factor to influence the 90d strength of lime-fly ash loess is the amount of fly ash and lime, the second is moisture content, and then is the ratio of fly ash to lime (1:K). These achievements are significant to the design and application of lime-fly ash loess in subgrade construction of loess areas.

Hua Zhang, Ying Zhang
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2013.43023

The study investigated the psychological characteristics of entrepreneurship of 829 college students in Chinaby questionnaire. The psychological characteristics include five aspects: entrepreneurial capacity, entrepreneurial belief, entrepreneurial consciousness, entrepreneurial motivation, and entrepreneurial determination. In the five factors, the entrepreneurial consciousness of college students is the highest, and the other four are almost at the same level. There is significant difference on entrepreneurial belief, consciousness, and motivation in different gender of students. Also there is significant difference on entrepreneurial consciousness in different major students and on entrepreneurial motivation in different degree students. However, the college students only with high entrepreneurial consciousness are not enough to succeed in business. The other four psychological characteristics are not only essential to entrepreneurship, but also necessary to their future professional development. College students should have a lot of preparation and accumulation on the other four psychological characteristics of entrepreneurship, and give much more effort to improve them.
