Entre a clausura do desatino e a "inclus?o" da anormalidade: vicissitudes da loucura na obra de Michel Foucault
Oliveira, Daniella Coelho de;
Fractal : Revista de Psicologia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-02922010000800013
Abstract: the present study thoroughly examines the investigative exercise conducted by michel foucault about insanity, demarcating the inextricable tie that the concept of insanity has with a specified cultural configuration and pointing to its unfoldment within the contemporary context; along these lines, it follows the path of foucault in its archaeological and genealogical moments: from the perception of a nomadic and almost romanticized madness to one that begins to take shape under the imperative of reason; from a categorization of madness as being close to the regions of crime and punishment to its apparent dispersion in the ample classificatory axis of abnormality described in the modern scenario.

O texto freudiano como analisador da cultura: uma resposta aos discursos totalizantes da ciência e da religi o

Revista Mal-estar e Subjetividade , 2002,
Abstract: The present study examines the Freudian cultural work, especially his writings on moral, religion, the discourse on science, and war, arguing about their efficacy as instruments of analysis of the modern cultural events. Along these lines, it signalizes the human condition described in psychoanalysis and the antagonism pertaining to the individual s encounter with culture, reconstituting the criticism to the ideals of plenitude and wellbeing, which are disseminated by the religious institution and radically confirmed through the discourse on science. Thus, it argues about the rise of scientific knowledge as being the exclusive form of access to truth and the vision of man that emerges from this knowledge when it offers him a technological and technical arsenal as the means for him to reach absolute power and satisfaction. Against the na ve promise of a happiness without tensions that these ideals present, the study refers to the uneasiness that is immanent to the psychoanalytic proposition of subject. It chooses to analyze war as a cultural event that reaffirms the destructive force of the death impulse and points to the tragic character of analytical knowledge. The reflection allows for an instigating reading of the modern cultural scenario, ending by demonstrating the critical power of the ethical proposition engendered by psychoanalysis and pointing to the pertinence of this theoretical apparatus as an instrument for analyzing the social facts that are in process in the modern world.

Abstract: the proposal that psychologists and social workers carry out judicial inquiry of children through the technique called testimony without damage (dsd), has been discussed in several scientific events and national publications, as it is in the pipeline bill that provides rules of procedure. starting from a reference literature produced in recent years about the issue in the article were systematized the arguments used on a recurring basis to justify deployment of dsd and the questions and analysis that they generate. the counterpoint between the information shows the need for further reflection on this complex issue, recognizing that fixed positions for or against the technique can contribute by bringing the discussion.

Genetics and Molecular Biology , 2000,
Abstract: X-Linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is a hereditary disorder of the peroxisomal metabolism biochemically characterized by the accumulation of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA) in tissues and biological fluids. The major accumulated acids are hexacosanoic acid (C26:0) and tetracosanoic acid (C24:0). The disorder is characterized clinically by central and peripheral demyelination and adrenal insufficiency closely related to the accumulation of fatty acids. The incidence of X-ALD is estimated to be 1:25,000 males. At least six phenotypes can be distinguished. The most common phenotypes are childhood cerebral ALD and adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN). The recommended therapy consists of the use of the glyceroltrioleate/glyceroltrierucate (GTO/GTE) mixture, known as Lorenzo's Oil, combined with a VLCFA-poor diet. There are alternative treatments such as bone marrow transplantation and immunosuppression, as well as the use of lovastatin and sodium phenylacetate. In the present study we report the clinical and biochemical course of 7 male patients with X-ALD treated with Lorenzo's Oil and a VLCFA-restricted diet. Treatment produced 50% reduction in C26:0 and 42.8% reduction in the C26:0/C22:0 ratio. Most patients remained clinically well, although approximately 30% of them presented a rapid clinical deterioration. The results showed a poor biochemical-clinical correlation for treatment, indicating that new therapies for X-ALD are needed in order to obtain a better prognosis for patients.

BioResources , 2010,
Abstract: Lignocellulosic fibers from green coconut fruit were treated with alkaline solution (NaOH 10%m/v) and then bleached with sodium chlorite (NaClO2) and acetic acid (CH3COOH). Alkali-treated and bleached fibers were mixed with high impact polystyrene (HIPS) and placed in an injector chamber in order to obtain specimens for tensile tests. Specimens of HIPS/alkali-treated and bleached coconut fiber composites were tested in tensile mode, and the fracture surfaces of the composites were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. Untreated, alkali-treated, and bleached coconut fibers were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Alkaline treatment was effective for removing the extractives and increasing the roughness of surfaces, while the bleaching treatment intensified the effect of alkaline treatment, while increasing the crystallinity index and surface energy of fibers. Results of tensile tests showed that the addition of 30% alkali-treated and bleached fibers reinforcing the HIPS matrix provided considerable changes in the mechanical properties of composites in comparison with the pure HIPS. On the other hand, chemical treatments were not totally effective for improving the adhesion between the fiber and matrix, as was observed in the analysis of the fracture surfaces of composites materials.

Einstein (S?o Paulo) , 2008,
Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of hysteroscopic endometrial ablation in women with abnormal benign uterine bleeding resistant to clinical treatment, and to identify factors potentially related to its failure. Methods: Ninety patients with abnormal benign uterine bleeding were retrospectively evaluated. They were submitted to endometrial ablation between January 2000 and August 2003. Their mean age was 44.3 years and their average parity was 2.3 childbirths. All patients had been given gonadotrophin-releasing hormone analogues prior to surgery, to make the procedure easier. Rresults: After surgery, amenorrhea occurred in 20% of cases, hypomenorrhea in 30%, and eumenorrhea in 32.2%. In 17.8% of patients, the procedure failed. No intra or postoperative complications occurred. There was no statistically significant difference between the patients in which the ablation failed and those in which it was successful regarding mean age (p = 0.557), parity (p = 0.891), presence of intramural myoma (p= 0.29), submucosal myoma (p = 0.68) or endometrial polyps (p = 0.76). A significant difference between the two groups was observed with regard to the uterine size median (7 cm in the successful group and 9 cm in the failure group, p = 0.008). A statistically significant difference was also found in follow-up time: 13 months in the first group and nine months in the second group (p = 0.001). Cconclusions: Endometrial ablation is a good treatment method for abnormal uterine bleeding of benign etiology. Special attention must be paid to patients with increased uterine size, since failure is more frequent in these cases.

Einstein (S?o Paulo) , 2009,
Abstract: Tubal sterilization is the most widely used procedure in the world for definitive contraception. It is safely performed by laparoscopy, but it is an invasive procedure with potential surgical and anesthetic risks. By hysteroscopy, the Essure micro-insert assures tubal obstruction with no need of hospitalization, incision or anesthesia.

Abstract: postharvest aspects of tropical flowers are still relatively unknown, and there is no methodology for this stage of the production process. so, this study aimed at evaluating the effect of preservative solutions and sucrose on the postharvest preservation of zingiber spectabile griff. floral stems of approximately 40.0 cm, with turgid bracts and characteristic color, were harvested and submitted to a cleaning process, in a laboratory of the universidade federal de lavras, in lavras, minas gerais state, brazil, in 2010. afterwards, they were transferred to plastic bottles containing 1.0 l of solutions which corresponded to different treatments: pure water (control), commercial crystal clear? preservative (7.5 ml l-1), calcium hypochlorite (5%), commercial florissant? preservative (1 tablet l-1) and pulsing with hydraflor-100? (16.0 ml l-1) and with a sucrose solution (10%). the experimental design was completely randomized, with six treatments and four replications, with three inflorescences per replication (plot). the treatments were randomly distributed in a room with temperature of 18oc and relative humidity of 70%. the visual quality was evaluated according to a scale, with the absorbed volume and dry weight of floral stems being daily measured. pulsing with hydraflor-100? provided the highest weight for floral stems and the best commercialization time for zingiber spectabile.

Abstract: purpose: to evaluate the clinical outcomes after a minimum period of 5 years of follow-up of patients with abnormal uterine bleeding of benign etiology who underwent endometrial ablation, analyzing the success rate of treatment defined as patient satisfaction and improvement in uterine abnormal bleeding, as well as late complications and factors associated with recurrence of symptoms. methods: a cross-sectional survey was conducted after a minimum period of 5 years after surgery in patients who underwent the procedure between 1999 and 2004. we analyzed the following data: age at the time of surgery, immediate and late complications and associated factors. logistic regression with odds ratio (or) calculation was performed to evaluate possible associations between the success rate of surgery and the analyzed variables. results: a total of 114 patients underwent endometrial ablation between march 1999 and april 2004. the median follow-up was 82 months. the logistic regression model allowed the correct prediction of the success of endometrial ablation in 80.6% of cases. age was directly related to the success of the procedure (or=1.2; p=0.003) and previous tubal ligation showed a negative association with the success of endometrial ablation (or=0.3; p=0.049). among the patients with treatment failure, 21 (72.4%) underwent hysterectomy. in one of the hysterectomy cases, hydro/hematosalpinx was confirmed by the anatomopathological exam, characterizing the postablation-tubal sterilization syndrome. conclusion: endometrial ablation has proven to be a worthwhile treatment option, maintaining high rates of patient satisfaction, even over long-term follow-up. the age at endometrial ablation influenced the therapeutic success. further studies are needed to evaluate the factors that may influence the future indication for the procedure in selected cases.
