Abstract: objective: to identify the risk of suicidal behavior in high-risk pregnant women at a public hospital in s?o paulo. methods: we conducted a semi-structured interview with each of the participants (n = 268) through a previously prepared questionnaire. risk of suicidal behavior was assessed by the portuguese version of prime-md. results: the mean age of patients was 29 years (sd = 0.507) and gestation period was 30 weeks (sd = 0.556). of the total sample, specific risk of suicide was found in 5% (n = 14). of these, 85% have a stable relationship (married or cohabitating), the pregnancy was planned in 50% of cases, and 71% have no religion or professional activities. the correlation of risk of suicide with data from marital status, planned birth, age, education, professional practice, risk of prematurity, and religion showed that having a religion is statistically significant (p = 0.012). there were no positive associations for any of the other selected variables when compared with the risk of suicide. by correlating the risk of suicide with other characteristic symptoms of major depression, there was statistical significance in the sample with regard to insomnia or hypersomnia (p = 0.003), fatigue or loss of energy (p = 0.001), decreased or increased appetite (p = 0.005), less interest in daily activities (p = 0.000), depressed mood (p = 0.000), feelings of worthlessness or guilt (p = 0.000), decreased concentration (p = 0.002), and agitation or psychomotor retardation (p = 0.002). conclusion: we found that religion can be a protective factor against suicidal behavior. besides providing a social support network needed by women during pregnancy, religion supports belief in life after death and in a loving god, giving purpose to life and self esteem and providing models for coping with crises. the results show the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of suicidal behavior, since suicide is an attempt to move from one sphere to another by force, seeking to solve w
Tolerancia de porta-enxertos de videira ao alumínio do solo

Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X1999000700011
Abstract: eleven grapevine rootstocks were evaluated through al saturation levels in samples of the cambissol humic soil, to settle a differentiated tolerance by al. the work was conducted in greenhouse with six randomized treatments, whose characteristics used were: plant height, root length, dry weight of aerial and root portions, and concentration of p, k, ca and mg in the leaves and roots. through of the increase and/or decrease observed in each characteristic (variation %), it was possible to evaluate a differentiated tolerance of cultivars. the responses of k were not affected by the al saturation levels. the ca and mg were the most affected by al. p showed a stable behavior in relation to the al saturation levels. the american cultivars, cunningham and isabel, showed difference in the tolerance to the soil al. the most sensible grapevine rootstocks were r99, rupestris du lot and kober 5bb, as well as isabel, while p1103, 101-14 and 196-17cl were the most tolerant to the soil al.

Abstract: This work tries to understand how a family faces the care with one of its members with diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy during dialysis treatment. This is a qualitative study, conducted by the purposes of ethnographic method, which used the Calgary Family Assessment Model (MCAF) for collecting data. The research envolved seven families from diabetic patients attending two dialysis therapy units in Belo Horizonte, MG. Several resources were used to collect data, such as the Calgary Model, the participative observation, the semi-structured interviews, the field diary and documentary analysis. Data was analysed afterwards according to the theory of Bardin (1977) about analysis of content. Three thematic concepts emerged from the analysis of data showing the impacts of the dialysis treatment on the patient’s family life. The first one is the concept of family under the point of view of the patient with diabetic nephropathy; the second, the diabetic nephropathy and the dialysis treatment in relation to family life; and the third, the intimacy and the care for a person with diabetic nephropathy. The results suggested that each family has resources to take care of its members even faced to health problems. Then, this study showed how the family faces the new situations that arise from the patient’s illness, like the dialysis treatment routine and the complications of the disease that make him dependent. This fact shows the necessity to view the family as a focus for nursing care. The health professionals should envolve the family in the treatment care and incentivate its members to look for resources inside its unity and its closer social environment.

Abstract: in tissue culture, the action of induction of the vegetal development and also oxidative control of cells and tissues are attributed to the polyamines. this study was aimed at verifing the participation of the polyamines spermidine (spd), spermine (spm) and putrescine (put) in the induction of callus differentiation and in the oxidative control at hemerocallis sp. cultivated in vitro. cell mass produced by callus in vitro were cultivated in medium ms, supplemented with spd, spm and put in different concentrations and combinations, by evaluating endogenous contents of polyamines and soluble proteins, and peroxidase activity (ec 1.11.1.7), number and height of shoots, hyperhydricity and necrosis, and formation of calluses. the results indicate that polyamines participate not only at the morphogenesis induction, but also to the oxidative standards of cells and tissues. at the end of the study put, isolated (10μm put) or with spd (10μm 10 spd + 10μm put) or spm (10μm spm + 10μm put), induced the biggest average related to number and height of differentiated shoots. already the combination of the three polyamines in the medium (10μm spd + 10μm spm + 10μm put) induced mayor parts (60%) of micro shoots in the callus. the spd and spm combination (10μm spd + 10μm spm) induced the biggest quantity of necrosis tissue (65%). it was verified that spm, applied exogenously in the medium (10 μm spm) can act as antioxidant in the tissue culture of this species.

Abstract: the fig culture is affected by mosaic virus and the tissue culture is an alternative in the clonal cleaning. the kinetin and ga3 effects on in vitro fig multiplication was studied. nodal segments were inoculated in wpm culture medium containing the following combination of kinetin (0, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 mg.l-1) and ga3 (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 mg.l-1). the number and length, fresh and dry weigh matter of aerial part, number of roots, fresh and dry weight matter of root system and fresh and dry weight matter of callus were evaluated. the use of kinetin 0.5 mg.l-1 promoted higher rates of in vitro ficus carica multiplication. the ga3 reduced the formation and shoot multiplication, and induced etiolation, hyperhydricity, clorosis and apical necrosis at the plantlets.

Abstract: chronic renal disease and dialytic treatment are a great problem for a sick person and their family, altering their living habits. these changes demand effort, dedication and adaptation in life routine of the family members. it was aimed at in this study to identify the main demands and resources of the family in living and caring for people with diabetic nephropathy. this is a qualitative research, guided by the assumptions of the calgary model of family evaluation, carried out with seven families in two renal therapy units in belo horizonte, minas gerais, brazil. the results of the research were presented as demands and resources, based on sets of beliefs and values that intervene in facing the disease. the data obtained suggest that each researched family has resources, even as they are faced by health demands, which shows the need for looking at the family as a focus of nursing care.
