Revista Brasileira de Oftalmologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72802011000600016
Abstract: sjogren - larsson syndrome is a rare autosomal recessively inherited neurocutaneous disorder which occurs with 100% penetrance and is classically characterized by ichthyosis, spasticity and mental handicap. the disease is caused by mutations in the aldehyde dehydrogenase gene. the ocular manifestations are highly characteristic bilateral, glistening yellow-white retinal dots from the age of 1 to 2 years onward. the number of dots increases whit age. the extent of the macular abnormality does not correlate with the severity of the ichthyosis or with the severity of the neurological abnormalities. we report the clinical characteristics and ocular manifestations associated with the sj?gren-larsson syndrome in two siblings, emphasizing the clinical importance of the ophthalmological examination of the sj?gren-larsson syndrome. bpls, a eleven year old boy and mpls, a ten year old girl from non-consanguinous parents, presenting congenital ichthyosis, spastic diplegia and mental retardation. miopia, fotofobia, subnormal visual acuity and glistening yellow-white crystalline deposits that were located in the foveal and parafoveal area were found in the ophthalmologic examination.
Fuzzy vs. Probabilistic Techniques to Address Uncertainty for Radial Distribution Load Flow Simulation  [PDF]
Roma Raina, Mini Thomas
Energy and Power Engineering (EPE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/epe.2012.42014
Abstract: For Power distribution system the most important task for distribution engineer is to efficiently simulate the system and address the uncertainty using a suitable mathematical method. This paper presents a comparison of two methods used in analyzing uncertainties. The first method is Montecarlo simulation (MCS) that considers input parameters as random variables and second one is fuzzy alpha cut method (FAC) in which uncertain parameters are treated as fuzzy numbers with given membership functions. Both techniques are tested on a typical Load flow solution simulation, where connected loads are considered as uncertain. In order to provide a basis for comparison between above two approaches, the shapes of the membership function used in the fuzzy method is taken same as the shape of the probability density function used in the Monte Carlo simulations. For more than one uncertain input variable, simulation result indicates that MCS method provides better output results compared to FAC, however takes more time due to number of runs. FAC provides an alternate method to MCS when addressing single or limited input variables and is fast.
Aggressive Pregnancy Tumor (Pyogenic Granuloma) with Extensive Alveolar Bone Loss Mimicking a Malignant Tumor: Case Report and Review of Literature Tumor Agresivo del Embarazo (Granuloma Piógeno) con Gran Pérdida del Hueso Alveolar Simulando un Tumor Maligno: Reporte de Caso y Revisión Bibliográfica

Abstract: Oral pyogenic granuloma is a hyperplastic inflammatory lesion commonly associated to local irritation or trauma. Females are more affected than men probably due to the vascular effects of hormones that occur during puberty, pregnancy and menopause. In the pregnancy, the lesions are known as "pregnancy tumor" and tend to occur more frequently during the second and third trimester. In the oral cavity, histopathological examination is required for diagnosis, since the lesion is clinically indistinguishable from other reactive lesions and, usually, there is no evidence of bone involvement. The authors report a rare case of pyogenic granuloma with destruction of alveolar bone mimicking a malignant tumor in a 20-year-old woman in the 19th week of pregnancy.
Roma, Celso;
Dados , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582007000200005
Abstract: the objectives of this article were to compare the performance of members of congress who remain loyal to their original party versus those who desert, in terms of party cohesion and discipline, as well as to measure the effects of changing parties on the migrants' conduct and ideas. the study uses data from records on party changes, roll call votes, and opinion polls. based on these data, regardless of whether members of congress had switched parties or not, they showed a high degree of partisanship. in addition, most party deserters adhered to the ideas and voting patterns of their new party. compared to the brazilian case, political party migration in the united states differs as to frequency, motives, and impact.
A institucionaliza??o do PSDB* entre 1988 e 1999

Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69092002000200006
Abstract: this paper analyzes the organizational structure of the brazilian social democratic party (psdb), from its foundation in 1988 to 1999. from this perspective, the discussion is divided in two parts. in the first one, the following dimensions of the psdb are approached: its origin, internal structure of power, ideology and opinions and attitudes of the elected representatives. in the second part, this work discusses the interaction between the model of organization adopted by the party and its consequences for the definition of its strategies of electoral competition and party?s participation in government. the results of this research indicate that the psdb has gone through a process of adaptation in response to the political environment in order to increase its electoral competitiveness. this process of pragmatic adaptation is revealed as an important explanatory variable of the type of power's relationship between leaders and partisans, and of the ambiguity between the government's program and its professed ideology. the empirical evidences that attest such explanation corroborate the theoretical perspective adopted in this article. the party chooses from a set of possible alternatives the one that will promote articulation between its organizational stability and the capacity to gain political power.

Abstract: : Physical Education and Disability: following a comprehensive approach - The education of the body and through the body includes a full opportunity for personal growth. This approach moves beyond the obsolete position considering the physical education only as physical improvement of the individual. Thus, achieving broader base motor functions thus can represent a further step in motor education, with important implications for development. This approach, especially in the field of disabilities, can offer useful conceptual and terminological advances to understand the evolution and the trajectories of the people with disabilities.

ABSTRACT: There are few studies about the way Brazilian political parties are organized. This article analyzes the organization of the Workers Party (PT) and the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) comparing their origin, internal structure and ideology. The PT was originated in the civil society and adopted a centralized organization of party committees to facilitate a wide participation of its affiliates in the decisions within the party. In turn, the PSDB arose in the Parliament, supporting itself on a decentralized internal organization and with leadership autonomy in decision making. Affiliates of these parties reveal different visions about the political agenda. As a result, even though theses parties are held to the same political system, they can adopt different organizations and strategies of electoral competition with equally efficient outcomes.

Universality in three-dimensional Ising spin glasses: Nonequilibrium dynamics from Monte Carlo simulations
F. Roma
Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.82.212402
Abstract: The non-equilibrium dynamics of the three-dimensional Edwards-Anderson spin-glass model with different bond distributions is investigated by means of Monte Carlo simulation. A numerical method is used to determine the critical temperature and the scaling exponents of the correlation and the integrated response functions. The results obtained agree with those calculated in equilibrium simulations and suggest that the universality class does not depend on the exact form of the bond distribution.
