Fotodegrada??o de fenol e clorofenóis por processo foto-Fenton mediado por ferrioxalato
Nogueira, Raquel Fernandes Pupo;Modé, Daniela Fonseca;
Eclética Química , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-46702002000200015
Abstract: the influence of some operational parameters such as stirring the solution during solar irradiation and the solution flow rate into artificial irradiation photoreactor were evaluated on the photodegradation of 2-chlorophenol (2cp) and 2,4-diclorophenol (dcp) by photo-fenton process mediated by ferrioxalate. after evaluation of these parameters, the systems were applied to photodegradation of phenol and mono (2-chlorophenol and 4-clorophenol), di (2,4-dichlorophenol) and tri (2,4,6-trichlorophenol) chlorophenols to evaluate the photodegradation efficiency of these compounds under solar as well as artificial irradiation. small differences in the percentages of total organic carbon (toc) removal and generation of chloride ions were observed with and without stirring the solution during solar irradiation of 2cp. under artificial irradiation, the increase of flow rate resulted in lower toc removal, while a higher rate of toc removal was obtained due to a shorter irradiation time. an intermediate flow rate of 33.4 ml min-1 was then used. under solar irradiation, 15 minutes irradiation were necessary for complete removal of all chlorophenols, however, the complete removal of phenol was achieved in 20 minutes. under artificial irradiation, the chlorophenols were removed between 4.5 and 6.5 minutes of irradiation. the degradation rates increased slightly with the increase of the number of chlorides bonded to the aromatic ring under solar as well as artificial irradiation.

Collaria oleosa causes leaf injuries to the main forage grasses used for cattle feeding in Brazil. The aim of this work was to determine resistance of B. ruziziensis clones against C. oleosa. Eighty B. ruziziensis clones were maintained in greenhouse, in which C. oleosa natural infestations have been occurring in previous years. After 40 days, damage score and chlorophyll content reduction were assessed for all clones. By using these parameters, genetic gain was estimated based on REML/BLUP mixed models. We observed significant differences for damage scores and chlorophyll content reduction among B. ruziziensis clones, evidencing genetic variability in this forage specie in regard to resistance against C. oleosa. Gain derived from selection of the 10 best clones was 18.2% and 5.80% when considering the damage score and chlorophyll content reduction, respectively. The clones CNPGL BR 10, CNPGL BR 64, CNPGL BR 97 and CNPGL BR 40 presented the highest genetic gain for both damage score and chlorophyll content reduction, and then they will be selected to continue the B. ruziziensis breeding program with the possibility of maximizing genetic gain for the next generations.

Journal of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering (MSCE) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/msce.2019.710004
Abstract: Copper-based composites strengthened by ceria nanoparticles were processed by conventional powder metallurgy: mixing (30 min and 46 rpm), compaction (cold, uniaxial, 1080 MPa for 10 s) and sintering (800°C for 6 h in vacuum atmosphere of 105 torr). It was studied the microstructure (optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy), X-ray diffraction with Rietveld refinement and some properties (electrical conductivity, Vickers hardness and fracture analysis) of the compositions 92 wt% Cu - 8 wt% CeO2 and 80 wt% Cu - 20 wt% CeO2. The results showed uniform phase distribution, low porosity and ceria disperse inside copper grain. In despite of properties, the composites had electrical conductivity of 38% IACS and 15% IACS and hardness of 69 and 88 HV5, respectively. The results of 92 wt% Cu - 8 wt% CeO2 composites were promising, and they are in according with actual literature.

Abstract: Objective: To verify the efficacy of cochlear implantation in a patient with Arnold-Chiari syndrome. Design: Review of a medical chart from a patient with Arnold-Chiari syndrome that underwent to cochlear implant surgery. Case report: A 6 year-old female, with meningomyelocele and congenital hydrocephalus, deaf in the past 3 years, after meningitis. At that time, she used oral language with adequate speech development. Tone audiometry revealed bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss. The MRI was compatible with the Arnold-Chiari syndrome. Cochlear implantation was performed on the left ear with MED-EL? Implant (model SONATATi100). Currently, the child is 12 year-old, performs speech therapy three times a week, with good hearing and language development. Conclusion: Despite the presence of Arnold-Chiari syndrome (Chiari type II) with neurological disorders and with ventriculoperitoneal shunt, patient had good hearing results after cochlear implant surgery.
Effects of atopy and rhinitis on exhaled nitric oxide values - a systematic review
Daniela Linhares, Tiago Jacinto, Ana M Pereira, Jo?o A Fonseca
Clinical and Translational Allergy , 2011, DOI: 10.1186/2045-7022-1-8
Abstract: A systematic review was performed in Pubmed, Scopus and ISI Web of Knowledge. A two-step selection process was completed, and from 2357 references 19 were included. The inclusion criteria were: participants without known diseases other than rhinitis; atopy assessement by SPT or Specific IgE; and FeNO measurements according to ATS/ERS recommendations.The 8 articles measuring FeNO in children showed higher values in both allergic rhinitis and atopic children when compared with healthy children. The 11 articles performed in adults observed higher FeNO in AR patients comparatively with either healthy or atopic individuals. However, adult healthy and atopic individuals had similar FeNO values.FeNO values are higher in individuals with rhinitis and/or atopy without other health problems. These effects are small, seem to be independent and should be further studied using multivariate models. The effect of atopy was observed only in children. The combined effect of atopy and rhinitis produced higher FeNO values in adults. These results support that both atopy and rhinitis should be considered when interpreting or when defining FeNO reference values.Exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is associated with asthma [1], and with airway eosinophilia [2]. Recently, it was suggested that FeNO production in the airways is under the influence of Th2 cytokines, IL-4 and IL-13, responsible for induction of Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase (iNOS) expression in the airway epithelium, and thus for the increase of FeNO in inflammatory disorders [3].Many individual factors influence FeNO values. In fact, the considerable inter-subject variability hampers the clinical interpretation of FeNO measurements [4,5]. Two important FeNO modifiers are atopy and rhinitis [6]. Some studies reported higher FeNO values in patients with atopy or allergic rhinitis alone [7-9], while others observed a relationship between elevated FeNO values and the exacerbation of rhinitis and the number of positive wheals on skin

Psicologia, Saúde & Doen?as , 2006,
Abstract: the current demographic circumstances and its consequences in the social system, from family relationships to the functioning of the macro structures, as well as health care, makes it necessary to reconsider the elder's role in the portuguese context. to promote life quality when physical decline is inevitable implies considering multidimensional criteria, such as maintaining the social network and significant activities. the productive aging theory emphasizes both the contributions that elders can give to society, through the goods they produce, as well as the well-being and life quality that come from this process (kaye, butter & webster, 2003). however, in portugal there is still no planning for the implementation of strategies that can direct and promote the use of the resources that elders can give, which is something that needs to be modified.

Abstract: this study compared the performance of selected groups of brazilian and american individuals on the iowa gambling task (igt). the sample was composed of 70 brazilian and american individuals of both genders, divided into two groups of young and older adults. the two groups of brazilians were composed of 10 young adults, aged 25 to 41 years, and 25 older adults, aged 60 to 75 years. the two groups of americans were composed of 10 young adults, aged 28 to 39 years, and 25 older adults, aged 60 to 76 years. a two-way analysis of variance revealed differences in performance between brazilian and american participants, regardless of age group (country, p = .001; age group, p = .134; country vs. age group, p = .291). analyses of variance using age group and country as main factors did not reveal any difference between the two national groups with regard to the learning achieved during the task (block, p < .001; age group, p = .063; country, p = .086). the results suggest that culture, represented by the country of origin, influences the performance of individuals on the igt, demonstrating the importance of validating an instrument for each cultural group on which it is used.
