Bartholomeu, Daniela Bacchi;Caixeta Filho, José Vicente;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032008000300006
Abstract: this article evaluates economic and environmental impacts of brazilian highway conditions. the economic benefits evaluated were: diesel consumption, travel time and vehicle maintenance; the environmental benefits evaluated were the reduction on negative externalities related to decrease on carbon dioxide (co2) emissions. primary computer collected data related to the trucks performances on highways with different infrastructure conditions. the data were derived from 20 trips over 2 routes, each route representative of one of two highway conditions: better or worse (campo grande to santos, and rondonópolis to campo grande). the results had confirmed economics and environmental benefits resulting from travel over the better routes.
Derossi, Daniela Rudgeri;Ito, Kasuhiro;Couto Filho, José D'Oliveira;Bacchi, Carlos Eduardo;
Jornal Brasileiro de Patologia e Medicina Laboratorial , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-24442003000300010
Abstract: introduction: the bcl-2 gene encodes a protein that is involved in cell death regulation. initially described in lymphomas, and later in epithelial tissues, its expression is often found in breast cancer, in association with favorable prognostic factors. because fine-needle aspiration (fna) biopsy has been established as a reliable method for the diagnosis and biologic characterization of breast cancer, we assessed bcl-2 expression on fnas from primary breast cancer and evaluated its correlation with the corresponding histologic grade, scored on the subsequent surgical specimen, following the scarff, bloom and richardson method (sbr). objectives: to evaluate the bcl-2 protein expression on fnas and correlate it with histologic grade on paraffin embedded material. methods: bcl-2 expression was evaluated retrospectively by immunocytochemistry on 118 consecutive fnas from patients with primary breast cancer. histologic grade was assessed according to the sbr classification, on surgical specimen material from the same patients that underwent surgical resection of the lesion. a correlation was established. results: bcl-2 was expressed in 77 of 118 fnas (65.25%) and was correlated with histologic grade (p = 0,0022). conclusions: bcl-2 expression, evaluated by immunocytochemistry on fnas from primary breast carcinoma, correlates with favorable prognostic factor. the positivity rate, as well as the inverse histologic grade correlation, is in agreement with previous published data. as fna biopsy is used increasingly as a primary tool in the diagnosis of breast carcinoma, bcl-2 evaluation by immunocytochemistry on fna may provide, in a near future, in addition to other biologic variables, useful information for prognostic and predictive purposes, particularly in patients considered as candidates for neo-adjuvant treatment.

Daniela Bacchi Bartholomeu,Luciana Torrezan Silveira
Cunha, Valeriana;Caixeta Filho, José Vicente;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X2002000200004
Abstract: this work presents a methodology that has been developed and applied to help the decision-making process, at both tactical and operational levels, in solid urban waste management. this methodology, based on an optimization mathematical model of non-linear goal programming, has been applied to piracicaba, a city in the state of s?o paulo. some problems in tactical and operational management of solid urban waste collection have been found there, such as lack of standard collection of all the waste generated in some areas, non-optimization of fleet of vehicles available, productivity above that established as optimal in most areas, densities below or above average, among others. furthermore, the need of restructuring collection areas has been noticed so that management can be more effective. upon applying the model, it was concluded that such tool is useful in tactical and operational decision-making, as well as in helping redefining strategies to be followed by decision-makers.
Soares, Marcelo Gimenes;Caixeta Filho, José Vicente;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X1997000200007
Abstract: the brazilian highway freight market is subject to no sort of government control, meaning that the prices are formed through free negotiation between supply and demand of the transport service. carriers have to be updated on every variable incorporated in costs to be fit for negotiating with demanders. these demanders, except under certain very specific circumstances, have performed higher negotiation power and exerted quite strong pressure to obtain freight discounts. taking into consideration the accomplishment of the quality of freight information, for both supply and demand sides of the transportation service, data for selected agricultural commodities were collected, as well as the identification of the main characteristics of the road haulage. the difference in the freight values for each commodity was noted, as was the distinct freight market structure for grains (sugar, corn, soybeans and soybean meal), which has been more spread out and perhaps less professional if compared with the transportation market for liquids, such as orange juice and soybean oil.
Cesarino, Rodrigo Coltelli;Caixeta Filho, José Vicente;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X2002000100005
Abstract: this study was done with the objective of verifying the possible existence of a pattern of distribution of the products on the supermarket?s shelves, considering the size and format of the stores. a case study was conducted in stores of a great chain in the city of s?o paulo, where the relationship between the space allocation decisions and the size and the format of the stores were evaluated. it was expected that the bigger the correlation of the space allocated to sections and the size of the stores, the clearer the pattern of the chain; or, if this correlation does not exist, the chain could be more focused on the neighborhood?s demand. for this study, three supermarket formats were considered: compact, normal and large. the obtained results suggest that stores with the compact and normal format are more related to attend neighborhood demands than the stores with the large format. the fact that the null hypothesis - the size of the stores and the size of the sections have zero correlation - was systematically not rejected for the three store formats is a strong signal that the managerial decisions about shelf space allocation to stores of this chain could be more associated to the neighborhood than it would be expected from a chain. one reason for that is the fact that this chain has a very representative part of its products originated from its distribution center.
Lopes, Ricardo Luis;Caixeta Filho, José Vicente;
Pesquisa Operacional , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-74382000000200006
Abstract: the main purpose of this research work was to analyse the most efficient spatial distribution of pig production units in the state of goiás. the model developed required a mixed integer programming structure. the factors considered in the model were: the grain transportation cost (corn and soybeans) from the source to the production unit, the cost of transporting the animals from the production unit to slaughterhouses and the carcass transportation cost from the slaughterhouse to retailers. the consumption market was spatialy defined as comprising the state of goiás, the distrito federal and the counties of s?o paulo, rio de janeiro and belo horizonte. moreover, it was determined the supplies of corn and soybeans for each microregion in the state of goiás and the national per capita pork consumption. three scenarios, showing different per capita consumption levels, were considered. one of these is the current per capita consumption level and the two other were determined according to sector perspectives.
Administra??o de seguros no transporte de cargas
Gameiro, Augusto Hauber;Caixeta Filho, José Vicente;
RAE eletr?nica , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-56482002000100009
Abstract: this paper analyses the management of cargo insurance by trucking companies, with emphasis on the treatment of cargo theft. this type of insurance has peculiarities that make it, most of the time, a very complex tool to be used. consequently, companies face difficulties to manage them, mainly at the present context, where the theft is a bottleneck for the performance of the transportation sector. there is a clear need of revising risk management strategies by the firms. the sector's particularities require new insurance products, more adaptable to different situations. it's also necessary a detailed revision of the relations between carriers and shippers.
