Journal of Surface Engineered Materials and Advanced Technology (JSEMAT) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jsemat.2012.24041
Abstract: Antifouling paints are the most reliable way to prevent biofouling of submerged surfaces. The high toxicity of organotin paints, prompted us to look for ideas to develop paints that do not present environmental risks. In this work, we prepare a painting by a modification of acrylic acid monomer containing a free carboxyl group. The biocide that is selected is the perfluorinated chain with eight carbons. Chemical modifications of the resins are made through a radical reaction. The magnitudes of changes are monitored by proton nuclear magnetic resonance NMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and the light scattering (LS) at a fixed angle 90℃. The glass transition temperature of the surfactant is obtained by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The antifouling properties of the paint are followed by exposure of panels to the marine environment by visual observation.
Development of Coatings Marine Antifouling Based on Perfluorinated Surfactants Synthesis and Physicochemical Study  [PDF]

Journal of Surface Engineered Materials and Advanced Technology (JSEMAT) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jsemat.2014.42012
Abstract:

The fight against dirt settling on the hulls of ships and more generally on all underwater structures is more than 2000 years. The need for effective antifouling paints, which prevents the establishment and growth of marine organisms on submerged structures, is universally recognized. In this work, we synthesize two perfluorinated surfactants from simple monomers. After describing the reactions, we discuss the different analyzes of the proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), the fluorine nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR I9F), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and the light scattering (LS) at a fixed angle 90. The glass transition temperature of the two surfactants diethylallylphosphonate and allylamine are obtained by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Antifouling paint properties were followed by exposure of the plates to the marine environment by visual observation.

Corporate Governance Practices and Audit Quality: Do They Matter for the Cost of Debt?  [PDF]
Sami Bacha
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2019.97143
Abstract: This paper sheds light on the effect of corporate governance practices and audit quality on the cost of debt. Particularly, we investigate the effect of the ownership structure and the audit committee independance, as well as the reputation of the external auditor, on the cost of debt. Based on a sample of Tunisian listed companies over the period 2007 to 2016 and using OLS regression models estimated with robust standard errors, our findings show that the cost of debt is inversely related to the director board size and the ownership concentration. Tunisian debtholders favour monitoring mechanisms that are likely to limit managerial opportunism and consider board monitoring effectiveness and the presence of blockholders as a source of greater assurance. The results also reveal evidence of a debt pricing effect of audit quality as measured by auditor size (Big4). The findings report, however, that the board composition and the presence of managerial shareholders, as well as the independence of audit committee have non-significant effect on the cost of debt.

O mecenato: uma perspectiva económico-fiscal
Taborda,Daniel; Martins,António;
Economia Global e Gest?o , 2009,
Abstract: the social importance of some entities pertaining to the third sector is evoked as the reason behind direct public financial support, which is based not only on direct public transfers, but also on the donations made by the private sector. in order to encourage this behaviour, the state relinquishes revenue by granting tax benefits to companies and citizens who support institutions of widely recognized public interest. the focus of this work is mainly the economical aspects behind donations, in particular the corporate charitable giving.
O mecenato: uma perspectiva económico-fiscal Charitable giving: an economic and fiscal perspective
Daniel Taborda,António Martins
Economia Global e Gest?o , 2009,
The social importance of some entities pertaining to the third sector is evoked as the reason behind direct public financial support, which is based not only on direct public transfers, but also on the donations made by the private sector. In order to encourage this behaviour, the State relinquishes revenue by granting tax benefits to companies and citizens who support institutions of widely recognized public interest. The focus of this work is mainly the economical aspects behind donations, in particular the corporate charitable giving.

Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612004000200007
Abstract: this paper analyzes the use of forests in brazil, pointing out the destruction of native forests and its unsustainable uses are due to development policies. the latter is connected with the main economic models that prevailed during each time period. the paper discusses about the importance of forests for a nation and it points out brazil is world’s number one in losing forests, while other countries are increasing their forests. that deforestation is not necessary in order to keep brazil’s agriculture growing. the paper makes an analysis of forest policies and their results along brazil’s history. the paper also analyzed the reforestation in brazil and shows it is not compensating the deforestation process. at the end, the paper suggests some policies that are able to keep the expansion of agriculture and to conserve native forests in brazil.
