Revista Portuguesa de Ciências do Desporto , 2010,
Abstract: objectives: the aim of this study was to implement a biomechanical model, with linked segments associated with inverse dynamics, to analyze proximal net forces and moments during different upper limbs? activities. methods: one male subject performed flexion, extension and abduction of the shoulder and flexion of the elbow. the model is composed of five connected rigid segments (hand, forearm, arm, scapula and trunk). the newton-euler motion equations were used to quantify proximal net reaction forces and moments. for kinematics recording, five cameras with a frequency sample of 50 fps were used. videogrammetry accuracy was, on average, 1,7mm. the following muscles had their activities monitored: deltoid (anterior, medial, posterior), biceps brachialis, triceps brachialis, pectoralis major. the model was evaluated by qualitative comparison of proximal net moments with electromyographic signal of agonist muscles. results: the results showed a temporal synchronism between the proximal net moments and agonist emg activity. conclusions: the model was able to estimate proximal net forces and moments during different upper limbs? activities.
Pseudotumor fibroso do cord?o espermático: relato de uma les?o infrequente
Ogata, Daniel Cury;Pereira Neto, Elisiário;Sezerino, Daniel Oseias;
Jornal Brasileiro de Patologia e Medicina Laboratorial , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-24442011000400011
Abstract: fibrous pseudotumors are uncommon lesions that mostly occur in response to surgery, trauma, infection or inflammation. we report the case of 25 year-old patient, who presented painless scrotal mass. a total orchidectomy was performed. the anatomopathological diagnosis was fibrous pseudotumor of the spermatic cord.

Abstract: the purpose of this study was to describe forces acting on the shoulder joint during upper limb elevation at the scapular plane by means of the inverse dynamics method, here suggested as a complementary means of physiotherapeutic assessment of the shoulder. the method allows for determining proximal net moment (pnm) and proximal net force (pnf) peaks during movements, hence providing an objective assessment of loads on the joint. twenty-one male subjects were studied, their shoulder movements being analysed by videogrammetry in three load situations: with and without load, and with elastic resistance. a three-dimensional mathematic model was used to calculate pnm and pnf peak values, as well as to describe their evolution during movement along the anterior-posterior, superior-inferior, and lateral-medial axes. the inverse dynamics method was thus shown to provide objective information on the loads which shoulder joint is submitted to at the diverse ranges of motion and load situations during arm elevation; such information may be taken as a factual basis for planning shoulder rehabilitation programs.

Revista Portuguesa de Ciências do Desporto , 2008,
Abstract: to identify the muscle force produced by the shoulder muscles is essential to improve the knowledge of injuries mechanisms of the shoulder joint. the aim of the present study was to apply a model to estimate the muscle force and torque, by means of a biomechanical model, during shoulder maximal abduction on the coronal plane. one male, 28 years, 1.78 meters and 85 kg participated in the present study. the optimization model was structured with software matlab 7.0 ? (mathworks, inc.). the model considered as abductor muscles the following: anterior deltoideus, medium deltoideus, posterior deltoideus, supraspinatus, infraspinatus and subscapularis muscles. the comparison between muscle estimated force and moment was performed by the kruskal-wallis test, together with the friedman post hoc test (a=0.05). the medium deltoideus presented the largest estimated torque (16.7 nm), when compared with the other muscles. the peak torque and force of supraspinatus (6,6nm e 371n, respectively) was smaller when compared to the three portions of the deltoideus muscle. the results of the model are coherent with those found in the literature and present important information about muscle force production during shoulder abduction.

Journal of Coloproctology (Rio de Janeiro) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S2237-93632012000300019
Abstract: ileal inflammatory fibroid polyp is a rare non-neoplastic lesion of the gastrointestinal tract. intussusception caused by an inflammatory fibroid polyps is uncommon. the authors report a case of a 75 year-old female patient presenting with ileal obstruction due to intussusception of a polypoid lesion. the patient underwent surgical treatment and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis.

Ogata, Daniel Cury;Pereira Neto, Elisiário;Busato Júnior, Wilson F. Schreider;Gusso, Dayane Regina;
Jornal Brasileiro de Patologia e Medicina Laboratorial , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-24442010000100007
Abstract: the authors report the case of a 52 year-old woman that presented macroscopic hematuria and pelvic pain. ultrasound examination was performed, which showed an expansive mass in the bladder floor. a cystoscopy confirmed the presence of this lesion and a biopsy was carried out. histological analysis showed a small cell neoplasm. the immunohistochemical analysis was required to establish diagnosis. this analysis revealed positivity for ews-fli1, cd99 and s-100. the conclusive diagnosis was primitive neuroectodermal tumor. the patient was treated with chemotherapy. after a seven month follow-up period, the patient is disease-free.

Autopsy and Case Reports , 2011,
Abstract: Osteosarcoma most frequently affects long bones, particularly around the knee, and is therefore rare in the forearm. We report the case of a 67-year-old woman presenting with progressive lesion of the distal radius. A pathological diagnosis of osteoblastic osteosarcoma was suspected and was confirmed by needle biopsy. There had been two other cases of osteosarcoma in the same family. The patient was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by amputation of the arm below the elbow.
