Effects of Baihe Recipe on expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor and p53 proteins in tumor tissues of nude mice bearing orthotopically transplanted gastric carcinoma BGC-823

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effects of Baihe Recipe, a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine, on growth and metastasis of orthotopically transplanted gastric carcinoma and the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and p53 proteins in the tumor tissues in nude mice.Methods: Forty-five nude mice orthotopically transplanted with BGC-823 human gastric cancer cells were randomly divided into three groups: Baihe Recipe group, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) group and untreated group. The mice in the Baihe Recipe group received intragastric administration of 0.5 mL Baihe Recipe (crude drug content was 0.2 g/mL) for 6 weeks, and the mice in the untreated group received 0.5 mL normal saline. The mice in the 5-FU group received an intraperitoneal injection of 5-FU dilution (0.2 mL, 60 mg/kg per week, for 3 weeks). All mice were sacrificed after 6-week treatment. The weights of tumor and the growth-inhibiting rate were measured and the expressions of VEGF and p53 proteins were detected by immunohistochemical method.Results: The growth inhibition rates in the Baihe Recipe and 5-FU groups were 52.86% and 42.87% respectively. The incidence rates of metastasis to perigastric and hepatic portal lymph nodes, and to liver and peritoneum in the Baihe Recipe and 5-FU groups were lower than those in the untreated group. The metastasis rates in Baihe Recipe group, 5-FU group and untreated group were 33.33%, 35.71% and 80.00% respectively, with significant difference (P<0.05), and the expressions of VEGF and p53 proteins in tumor tissues in the Baihe Recipe group were lower than those in the untreated group and the 5-FU group (P<0.01, P<0.05).Conclusion: Baihe Recipe has inhibitory effects on tumor growth and metastasis of gastric cancer orthotopically transplanted in nude mice by down-regulating the expressions of VEGF and p53 proteins.

Abstract: Based on the theory of growth mode in circulation economy, this article analyses current situation and problems of China’s commodity circulation. It describes the impact of improving the level of logistics management on changing the growth mode of circulation economy from the perspective of logistics time value, location value and circulation processing value. It brings forward that improving the level of logistics management is the based way of changing the growth mode of circulation economy. It finally brings forward suggestions on improving the level of logistics management among enterprises.
Conjectures on exact solution of three - dimensional (3D) simple orthorhombic Ising lattices

Abstract: We report the conjectures on the three-dimensional (3D) Ising model on simple orthorhombic lattices, together with the details of calculations for a putative exact solution. Two conjectures, an additional rotation in the fourth curled-up dimension and the weight factors on the eigenvectors, are proposed to serve as a boundary condition to deal with the topologic problem of the 3D Ising model. The partition function of the 3D simple orthorhombic Ising model is evaluated by spinor analysis, by employing these conjectures. Based on the validity of the conjectures, the critical temperature of the simple orthorhombic Ising lattices could be determined by the relation of KK* = KK' + KK'' + K'K'' or sinh 2K sinh 2(K' + K'' + K'K''/K) = 1. For a simple cubic Ising lattice, the critical point is putatively determined to locate exactly at the golden ratio xc = exp(-2Kc) = (sq(5) - 1)/2, as derived from K* = 3K or sinh 2K sinh 6K = 1. If the conjectures would be true, the specific heat of the simple orthorhombic Ising system would show a logarithmic singularity at the critical point of the phase transition. The spontaneous magnetization and the spin correlation functions of the simple orthorhombic Ising ferromagnet are derived explicitly. The putative critical exponents derived explicitly for the simple orthorhombic Ising lattices are alpha = 0, beta = 3/8, gamma = 5/4, delta = 13/3, eta = 1/8 and nu = 2/3, showing the universality behavior and satisfying the scaling laws. The cooperative phenomena near the critical point are studied and the results obtained based on the conjectures are compared with those of the approximation methods and the experimental findings. The 3D to 2D crossover phenomenon differs with the 2D to 1D crossover phenomenon and there is a gradual crossover of the exponents from the 3D values to the 2D ones.
Mathematical structure of three - dimensional (3D) Ising model

Abstract: An overview of the mathematical structure of the three-dimensional (3D) Ising model is given, from the viewpoints of topologic, algebraic and geometric aspects. By analyzing the relations among transfer matrices of the 3D Ising model, Reidemeister moves in the knot theory, Yang-Baxter and tetrahedron equations, the following facts are illustrated for the 3D Ising model: 1) The complexified quaternion basis constructed for the 3D Ising model represents naturally the rotation in a (3 + 1) - dimensional space-time, as a relativistic quantum statistical mechanics model, which is consistent with the 4-fold integrand of the partition function by taking the time average. 2) A unitary transformation with a matrix being a spin representation in 2^(nlo)-space corresponds to a rotation in 2nlo-space, which serves to smooth all the crossings in the transfer matrices and contributes as the non-trivial topologic part of the partition function of the 3D Ising model. 3) A tetrahedron relation would ensure the commutativity of the transfer matrices and the integrability of the 3D Ising model, and its existence is guaranteed also by the Jordan algebra and the Jordan-von Neumann-Wigner procedures. 4) The unitary transformation for smoothing the crossings in the transfer matrices changes the wave functions by complex phases {\Phi}x, {\Phi}y, and {\Phi}z. The relation with quantum field and gauge theories, physical significance of weight factors are discussed in details. The conjectured exact solution is compared with numerical results, and singularities at/near infinite temperature are inspected. The analyticity in {\beta} = 1/(kB T) of both the hard-core and Ising models has been proved for {\beta} > 0, not for {\beta} = 0. Thus the high-temperature series cannot serve as a standard for judging a putative exact solution of the 3D Ising model.

Abstract:
To summarize the characteristics of wheelchair-user combination, this paper studied wheelchairs, wheelchair users, nursing staffs and interaction relationship between them. Firstly, the findings of some research on wheelchairs and wheelchair users were investigated, and the studies in four aspects of wheelchairs and their accessories, wheelchair users, wheelchairs and wheelchair users (man-machine system), and skills training for the performance of wheelchair were reviewed. Then “wheelchair-user combination” was put forward based on the relationship between wheelchairs and wheelchair users in real life, and the “wheelchair-user combination” was divided into “WUs-Ws system” and “WUs-Ws-NSs system” according to whether the nursing staffs were needed. Finally, this paper analytically studied the characteristics of wheelchair users, characteristics in use of wheelchair and characteristics of nursing staffs, as well as put forward the characteristics of the wheelchair-user combination.
Extraction of praeruptorin A from Radix Peucedani by supercritical fluid extaction-CO2

Abstract: Objective: To extract praeruptorin A from Radix Peucedani by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE)-CO2.Methods: After preliminary experiment, three main factors were acquired that could influence the result of SFE-CO2, including the time, pressure and temperature of the extraction. The optimal extraction process was carried out on orthogonal design, and SFE-CO2 was compared with the traditional methods.Results: In the extraction of the praeruptorin A, the best extraction conditions were 60 ℃, 20 MPa, and duration for three hours. As cosolvent alcohol was added, the amount of extraction of the praeruptorin A increased, and the amount of SFE-CO2 extraction was higher than those of decoction and heating reflux.Conclusion: The SFE-CO2 in extracting praeruptorin A from Radix Peucedani is feasible and reliable.

Abstract: Nonlinear dynamics of the time-delayed Mackey--Glass systems is explored. Coexistent multiple chaotic attractors are found. Attractors with double-scroll structures can be well classified in terms of different return times within one period of the delay time by constructing the Poincar\'{e} section. Synchronizations of the drive--response Mackey--Glass oscillators are investigated. The critical coupling strength for the emergence of generalized synchronization against the delay time exhibits the interesting resonant behaviour. We reveal that stronger resonance effect may be observed when different attractors are applied to the drivers, i.e., more resonance peaks can be found.
Heparanase and hepatocellular carcinoma: Promoter or inhibitor?

Abstract: Heparan sulphate proteoglycans (HSPGs) consist of a core protein and several heparan sulphate (HS) side chains covalently linked. HS also binds a great deal of growth factors, chemokines, cytokines and enzymes to the extracellular matrix and cell surface. Heparanase can specially cleave HS side chains from HSPGs. There are a lot of conflicting reports about the role of heparanase in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Heparanase is involved in hepatitis B virus infection and hepatitis C virus infection, the activation of signal pathways, metastasis and apoptosis of HCC. Heparanase is synthesized as an inactive precursor within late endosomes and lysosomes. Then heparanase undergoes proteolytic cleavage to form an active enzyme in lysosomes. Active heparanase translocates to the nucleus, cell surface or extracellular matrix. Different locations of heparanase may exert different activities on tumor progression. Furthermore, enzymatic activities and non-enzymatic activities of heparanase may play different roles during HCC development. The expression level of heparanase may also contribute to the discrepant effects of heparanase. Growth promoting as well as growth inhibiting sequences are contained within the tumor cell surface heparan sulfate. Degrading different HSPGs by heparanase may play different roles in HCC. Systemic studies examining the processing, expression, localization and function of heparanase should shed a light on the role of heparanase in HCC.
Gastrointestinal symptoms in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis: Multivariate analysis of correlated factors

Abstract: AIM: To investigate gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and to explore related factors contributing to GI symptoms.METHODS: One hundred and twelve patients undergoing PD participated in the study. The gastrointestinal symptom rating scale was used for measuring GI symptoms. Information on age, height, weight, body mass index, disease leading to chronic renal failure, history of corticosteroid therapy, presence of predialytic GI symptoms, daily dosage of pills, and duration, type and daily dialysate volume of PD was obtained by interviewing patients and/or reviewing the medical records. Hemoglobin, albumin and Kt/V data were obtained from follow-up database. We used multiple regression analysis with stepwise backward variable selection to test for factors predicting GSRS scores with significance level of selection entry at 0.05 and selection of stay at 0.10.RESULTS: The prevalence of eating dysfunction, reflux and indigestion in the PD patients was 44.2%, 32.7%, 32.7%, respectively. A history of corticosteroid therapy (b = 8.93, P < 0.001) and all pills daily intake (b = 0.16, P = 0.007) were positively correlated to GI symptoms, while residual renal Kt/V (b = -3.47, P = 0.009) was negatively correlated to GI symptoms. Other factors were proven to be not associated with GI symptoms, with P > 0.05.CONCLUSION: Eating dysfunction, reflux and indigestion were common in PD patients. Daily dosage of pills and corticosteroid history predicted GI symptoms, while residual renal function prevented them.
