Abstract: Cervical cancer is a priority health problem in Mexico. The objective of this work was to know the degree of satisfaction of the service provider with the organization of the program of Timely Detection of Cervical Cancer, specifically in taking of the cervical cytology. The study design was observational, transversal and prospective conducted from January to May 2015 in Jurisdiction 1 of the Health Services of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, in 20 health centers. Participants were 87 service providers whose function is to take cervical cytology (Pap smears). A 32-question questionnaire was applied, with Likert scale with 5 levels of response: 1 (dissatisfied), 2 (little satisfied), 3 (indifferent), 4 (satisfied) and 5 (very satisfied). The score range was 32 points (minimum job satisfaction) up to 160 points (Maximum job satisfaction). We analyzed 2 dimensions: 1) intrinsic factors that have to do with motivation and professional recognition, and 2) extrinsic factors related to infrastructure, materials, remuneration and labor policies. Each factor consisted of four categories. Descriptive statistics and linear correlation of Pearson were applied for the analysis of data. Participants signed an informed consent letter. Of 4 categories, in the intrinsic dimension, the one with the highest percentage of satisfaction was “delegation of activities” with 28.8%. In the extrinsic dimension, the category with the highest percentage of satisfaction was “infrastructure and materials” with 49.4%; while satisfaction increase in intrinsic dimensions also does in extrinsic dimensions, such correlations are significant (p < 0.05), except between delegation of activities and remuneration (r = 0.074 and p = 0.497). The higher hierarchical level, the men, the bachelor academic level and older people showed the highest level of satisfaction.

Even today, congenital malformations be still a health problem al world level. Cuba is an example in its prenatal diagnosis thanks to maternal-infantile screening programs. Really, although its national prevalence is low, yearly cases are reported. That is why we performed present research, in which by means of a observation and transversal study, it was possible to made a clinical and epidemiological characterization of the 389 newborns presenting with congenital malformations in Havana province from January 200 to June 2003. Prevalence was of 131.4 x 10 000 births with a percentage increase of 43.5 %, a yearly increase average of 14.5 %, and a mean rate for a period of 135.6. Great percentage of defects was present in a isolated way (78.7 %), and within them, more frequent were polydactyly (15.4 %), cardiopathies (6.7 %, and hipospadias (6.4 %). Down's syndrome was more frequent multiple defect seen. From results obtained, we conclude that prevalence of congenital defects at birth in this province, not differ with those reported in Cuban registry, and in related international studies.

Supervivencia y crecimiento de plántulas de especies le?osas del Chaco árido sometidas a remoción de la biomasa aérea

Ecolog?-a austral , 2006,
Abstract: it has been postulated that seedlings of the main woody species from the arid chaco exhibit differences in survival and growth when renewal buds are totally removed, and that the responses depend on their leaf life span (deciduous or evergreen plants) and phylogeny (leguminous or non-leguminous families). seeds of 14 shrub and tree species were planted in individual pots under greenhouse conditions. the effect of the total removal of aerial biomass on 12-weeks seedlings was compared with a control situation. variables such as post-emergence and post removal survival were considered for the study, as well as variables related to growth: total biomass, root and stem biomass, leaf area, root length and stem height. emergence (rate) of seedlings was higher in deciduous species, especially leguminous. seedling growth before treatment was higher in leguminous species and independent of leaf life span. aerial part removal had a negative effect on survival chances of all species. species were grouped according to the effect of the treatment on survival and growth: low negative effect, medium negative effect and no survival at all. seedling resprouting occurred in 50% of the species studied, with a limited proportion of resprouting within each species. both types of shrub species, leguminous-deciduous and sclerophyllous-evergreen, show resprouting ability at seedling stage, but respond differently in their growth and root/stem relationship. differences determined by phylogenic effect (leguminous and non-leguminous) and leaf phenology (deciduous and evergreen) were more relevant after removal treatments. the information would indicate that the removal of the air part stimulates the length of the root in the majority of the species that resprout, so that the energy that the plant dedicates to producing root is at the cost of a minor air growth and allows the survival in environments with stress or disturbances.
ANáLISIS DEL FUNCIONAMIENTO DE PLANTAS DE MANEJO DE RESIDUOS SóLIDOS EN EL NORTE DEL VALLE DEL CAUCA, COLOMBIA

Revista EIA , 2011,
Abstract: in colombia, the acceptance of resource recovery is demonstrated through the high number of municipalities which have introduced this alternative in their integrated solid waste management plans, together with the increasing number of solid waste management facilities (swmfs) that have been established. this situation also highlights the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the existing experiences as well as research and development around this topic. in this paper, the performance of five swmfs located in municipalities in northern valle del cauca is analyzed. the analysis shows that, despite the fact that swmfs have operational deficiencies, features such as markets for their products, employment generation and avoided costs in waste disposal in landfills show sufficient grounds for their continuity. key elements to strengthen swmfs performance are long-term awareness of service users, adaptation of technologies to the context, enhancement of managerial capacity and better support to resource recovery within the national political framework.
