Abstract: this study reports the planning and the implementation of the program "recreio nas férias" in one of the centers of the program "second half" ("programa segundo tempo"), located in vila jones in the brazilian city of americana, state of s?o paulo. the program "leisure during the school break" ("recreio nas férias") is a project of the ministry of sports, lounged in 2009. the aim was, during the school break, to provide children and adolescents with sports and leisure activities (games, sports, artistic, cultural, social and tourism activities) "to fill the free time during school break with pleasant constructive ways" (brasil, 2010). paralleling these goals with the current thinking in the academic field of leisure, we observe that public policies still reinforces the notion that leisure is an occupation for "passing the time", mainly when designed for the working classes. this is evident with the explicit concern of "to fill the free time", emphasizing its occupational character. therefore, we discuss this situation under silva (2003, 2008) and marcellino (1995, 2001, 2008) approach in which leisure is one of many possibilities of living playfully and constructing citizenship. we attempt to answer the question: can leisure fulfill another role than this "passing the time" notion typically found in sport and leisure government policies for the working classes?

Teaching humanization in undergraduate nursing education programs

Einstein (S?o Paulo) , 2009,
Abstract: Objective: To study whether humanization is taught in college disciplines as part of the syllabus of nurse training courses in the city of S o Paulo. Methods: The sample comprised 13 higher education institutions, totaling 588 disciplines. The education programs of nursing curricula from the institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Culture until May 2006 were used as reference. Rresults: Terms referring to humanization were encountered in 59%, indicating that it could be taught at these institutions. Only one institution, however, was able to offer any teaching on humanization in the subjects Philosophy (to define the dimensions for defining humanization) and Philosophic Anthropology (applying these definitions to specific healthcare situations). The latter discusses social roles, suggesting that supremacy of social roles prevails over inter-subjectivity, or inter-subjectivity operates notwithstanding social roles. Cconclusion: Nursing undergraduate programs in the present study tended to be ambiguous, most contained terms related to humanization, but few presented this theme consistently.

Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-50532007000300021
Abstract: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (pahs) were identified and quantified in sediment and water samples from 12 sites in the north-northeast region of the guanabara bay. the samples were analyzed by gc-ms to assess the degree of contamination by monitoring the affected ecosystem after an oil spill that occurred in january 18, 2000. total pah concentrations ranged from 77 to 7,751 μg kg-1 dry weight in surficial sediment samples and from not detected to 1592 ng l-1 in water samples. the majority of sediment samples were classified as highly contaminated (total pah > 500 μg kg-1) while for water samples the concentration of pahs was not sufficiently high to induce acute toxicity to aquatic organisms. in comparison with other coastal areas, pah concentrations in guanabara bay are relatively high. the ratios of low molecular weight/high molecular weight (lmw/hmw) pahs, phenanthrene/anthracene and benzo[a]anthracene/chrysene, are sensitive indicators of the origin of pah pollution, which have shown to be mostly from fuel combustion in the guanabara bay.

Abstract: cereal bars are a nutritional food of sweetened and acceptable flavor and are a source of vitamins, minerals, fibers, proteins and complex carbohydrates. the objective of this work was to study the effect of dietary fiber concentration and sugar in cereal bars made of oats with a high dietary fiber content. in the research, oat flakes, bran and flour from cultivar upfa 22, selected on the basis of the dietary fiber and b-glucans content, were used. the ingredients were used in amounts defined in laboratory tests. the experiment was carried out using a central composite rotational design applicable to the response surface methodology (rsm), and the effects of the sugar syrup concentration (70, 75 and 80 °brix) and dietary fiber content in the formulation (12, 16 and 20%) on the chemical composition, calorie value, water activity, microbiology and sensorial characteristics of the cereal bars were evaluated. the results were analyzed by multiple regression and the significant linear, quadratic and interaction terms were used in the second order mathematical model. the results showed that oats can be used as an ingredient when making cereals bars presenting an adequate texture, flavor and appearance. the oats used in the formulation makes cereal bars with high dietary fiber and b-glucan content. the bars present acceptable sensorial properties, similar to the industrialized bars, with higher acceptability when made with average concentration of sugar and high dietary fiber content. the cereal bars present low water activity and are within sanitary specifications and can be stored for 60 days.

Abstract: the terpenoid composition of seven amber samples from araripe basin (santana formation, crato member) has been analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to determine their botanical origin. the diterpenoids, which have been identified in the fossil resin extracts are derived primarily from the abietane class, e.g., dehydroabietane, 4-epidehydroabietol, 16,17,18-trisnorabieta-8,11,13-triene, 7-oxo-16,17,19-trisnorabieta-8,11,13-trieno, dehydroabietic acid, ferruginol, hinokiol and hinokione. their composition is certainly typical for conifers, and angiosperms can be excluded as the botanical source, as no triterpene was identified. the terpenoid characteristics strongly support a relationship to the araucariaceae or podocarpaceae families. in addition, the fossil record of the embedding sediments (pollen and fossil leaves) also supports the proposal of these paleobotanical origins for the ambers.
