Abstract: The root of Rotula aquatica is also called as pashanbed, belonging to the family Borogenaceae. It is widely distributed in India from kumaun to Assam and western to southern India.The medicinal values of plant lie in their component phytochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds and other nutrients like as amino acid, proteins, which produce a definite physiological action on the human body. The proximate values such as moisture content, ash value, extractive value, were carried out. The dried roots powder was subjected to successive extraction with different solvents like petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, methanol, ethanol and water. Macroscopic as well as microscopic studies of any crude drug are the primary steps to establish its botanical quality control before going to other studies. Hence Standardization of crude drug plays a very important role in identifying the purity and quality of crude drugs. The present investigation reveals Standardization which include Moisture Content, Total ash, Acid insoluble ash, Water soluble ash, Water soluble Extractive value, Alcohol soluble Extractive value, Phytochemical screening, and further isolation and identification of Phytoconstituents.

常年性变应性鼻炎属于难治愈的疾病之一。我们采用中药熏蒸的方法治疗常年性变应性鼻炎,收到较好的临床疗效。通过对一例病例的分析来探讨中药熏蒸治疗变应性鼻炎的理论基础。
Perennial allergic rhinitis is one of the diseases which are difficult to cure. We get excellent clinical efficacy using the Herbal fumigation treatment. According to a report, we analyse the theoretical basis of Herbal fumigation treatment treating perennial allergic rhinitis.

Hepatoprotective Potency of Achyranthes aspera: An In-vivo Study

Abstract: Achyranthes aspera (Amaranthaceae) is known for many medicinal uses such as purgative, diuretic, used in dropsy, piles, boils, skin eruption and in treating snake bite. Seeds of the plant are used by the ethnic group of Western Ghats for treating jaundice. The objective of the present study was to evaluate ethanolic extract from seeds of Achyranthes aspera for its hepatoprotective potential by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced liver damage model in rats. Present investigation revealed that the animal group treated with CCl4recorded significant rise in serum markers reflecting hepatic damage and pretreatment of rats with ethanolic extract of A. aspera (100mg/kg p.o) inhibited the increase in serum levels of total bilirubin, total protein, serum alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase and alkaline phosphatase reflecting the liver protection by crude drug.The data obtainedwas found comparable with silymarin (100mg/kg p.o).

Abstract: Ajowan (Trachyspermum ammi, Umbelliferae) is one such plant, having been prescribed for digestive, respiratory, renal, dental, a germicide, antispasmodic, antifungal agent and platelet aggregation inhibitory action, antifungal potency and blood pressure lowering action and many other maladies in Asian traditional medicine. This crude drug powder study was aimed to develop characteristics of powder crude methods in order to asses the quality of herbal drugs for therapeutic value. We have developed a simple scheme for quality and authentication of botanical ingredients. Due to very little literature is available for quality evaluation of crude drug powder. Samples subjected to various microscopical characteristics (botanical characterization), physicochemical analyses and Fluorescence test. The set parameter were found to be sufficient to evaluate crude drug powder and can be used as reference standards for the quality control /quality assurance study.
Comparative Study on Quantitative and Qualitative Characters of Different Oat (Avena sativa L.) Genotypes under Agro-Climatic Conditions of Sargodha, Pakistan  [PDF]

Abstract:

An experiment was conducted to compare the forage yield and qualify of oat (Avena sativa L.) genotypes (F-413, SGD-46, F-408, F-301, SGD-2011, SGD-3, SGD-37, SGD-40, SGD-5 and S-2000) at Fodder Research Institute, Sargodha, Pakistan during the year 2011 to 2012. Experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) having three replications and a net plot of size 1.6 × 5 m. The varieties were differed significantly (P ≤ 0.05) in yield, growth and quality parameters. The variety SGD-40 produced significantly higher green forage yield (80.00 t·ha-1) and dry matter yield (10.95 t·ha-1) than other varieties due to taller plants (145.73 cm), more number of tillers (7.78 m-2) and leaf area per plant (95.08 cm2). It also had the highest crude protein percentage (13.84%). Correlation analysis of quantitative and qualitative characters indicated the strongly positive association of green forage yield with dry matter, crude protein and ash content. While green forage yield was negatively correlated with the number of tillers per plant, keeping in view both forage yield and crude protein contents the genotype SGD-40 grown under the condition of Sargodha (Pakistan).

Abstract: an analytical quantitative technique that allows to determine the concentration of quinones present in the crude drug and in the fluid extract of senna alata (l.) roxb., popularly known as “guacamaya francesa”, is exposed. some aspects of the analytical procedure, such as the reflux time, the color development time and the way in which the ethereal phases were worked with, were modified. 3 methods of quantification were studied. all of them showed a good lineality, exactness and precision, but the differential spectrophotometry method was selected since it reduced in a higher percentage the interferences due to the degradation products, and it also had the highest specificity and the lowest percentage of error. a reference solution of cocl2 was used. the modifications introduced in the analytical procedure allowed to have a fast and simple technique to be applied in a pharmaceutical production center.

Abstract: This paper discusses the latest progresses of studying the allelopathy of plants, including the collection,separation, and identification of allelochemicals, mechanism of action,and influential factors. Authors put forward some measures for the effective utilization of allelopathy and associated harmful effects mitigation, based on the analysis of pros and cons of allelopathy in medicinal herbs, in an attempt to improve the growing skills, breeding, and micro-environment of soil. The paper has made both theoretical and methodological evidences available for regulating the plantation of the medicinal herbs.

Abstract: This paper introduces the development of the un-dry crude drug, the study of its chemical composition and pharmacological effects, as well as its application in the clinical therapy. It is also pointed out that the un-dry crude drug can greatly promote the quality evaluation and treatment effects of the traditional Chinese medicine. Combination of the application pattern of such drug with the large-scale cultivation and industrial production will provide a new way for the potential application of the un-dry crude drug.

Abstract: Terminaila chebula, Trachyspermum ammi, Apium leptophyllum , Zingiber officinalie are herbal medicines having many maladies in Asian traditional medicine. This crude drug powder study was aimed to develop characteristics of powder crude methods in order to assess the quality of herbal drugs for therapeutic value. We have developed a simple scheme for quality and authentication of botanical ingredients. Due to very little literature is available for quality evaluation of crude drug powder. Samples subjected to botanical characterization. The set parameter were found to be sufficient to evaluate crude drug powder, adulteration present in crude sample and can be used as reference standards for the quality control /quality assurance study. The powder characteristics of individual drugs are studied by classical pharmacognostical methods. The authenticity of the herbal drugs was confirmed by comparison of their powder characteristics with those given in the literature. A large number of ayurvedic formulations have been marketed but hardly any standards have been laid down for establishing their quality. This work utilizes microscopy as a tool to identify the presence of all the ingredients claimed in the various ayurvedic and herbal formulations.
